Next 5 Games - Our Acid Test?

I think we may struggle to get even a point at Stoke but, for some inexplicable reason, I have a feeling we'll beat Man U.

United have been one of the poorer teams in the league so far. They've brought in players but it's not unreasonable to say that that fixture is an opportunity to pick up our first win.

I might add that it's no exaggeration to say that we could, just, have won all 3 games so far. Given that I put on £20 at 5000 to 1 for us to win the league I'm rather annoyed at us dropping those 7 points, especially against potential rivals. It could cost me £100,000!

Hmmmm. Of all of them, I have a bad feeling about Utd. They've spent trillions, clearly have players who can turn it on and Loius needs to start winning. I hope that winning run don't start against us.

Of course, they could take ages to gel? But I'm a bit worried about this one.

Same here, they have the attacking players to absolutely destroy us, I'm just hoping they haven't figured out the formation by then. Rojo and Blind will make their debut against QPR I presume, not sure about Falcao and his fitness. I'm hoping the hammer QPR and think that they have turned the corner and get complacent against us and we can nick something from the game.

Whatever happens between now and the United game we can't underestimate them or we will get tonked, I actually thought United could be title challengers this season with no European distractions.

Well out of the first 3 games the best I expected and hoped for was 3 points, we've got 2 and i'm happy with that, the fact we've played well and looked good i'm very buoyed about.

Out of the next few games? Call me a hard taskmaster but I think you've gotta look for atleast 3 wins, i'm not sure we will get that return but that's what you've gotta be aiming for atleast.

Stoke (A) - Gonna be tough and Stoke are a good/hard team but I still feel they are around where we should be come the end of the season, therefore you have to beat the teams around you and I think we should be looking for 3 points against them, being away makes it alot tougher, but still the fact remains I think we should be getting/close to a win there.

Man Utd (H) - If they are still in the form they have been so far i'll be disappointed if we don't beat them, nothing else needs saying.

We all know where Man Utd's first win of the season is coming though don't we?

Palace (A) - Gotta win, the points I make about the Stoke game are the same for this game, Palace should/will be around us at the end of the season, I feel we should be above them and it's the type of game that if we're gonna stay up we have to win, regardless of it being home or away.

Burnley (H) - Gotta win again, the same points again as I make for Stoke and Palace, but the fact this is at home means there is no excuse for no winning this one.

Newcastle (A) - Tough, but winnable, I reckon a draw if i'm honest.

But like I said at the start of my post, I think anything less the 3 wins and I think i'll be a little bit disappointed with the return. Hard taskmaster? Or reasonable view? :dunno:

I really hope im not going to take a panning for this:

Whichever way up you look at it, weve got 2 points so far. Yes we have had a tough start, of course, but weve also been behind in every game so far too.

Performances have been good though. The extremely good performances in these games have given people cause for optimisim, but we also have to be realistic. Every other team are looking at us as being weak, and looking at us as being 3 point potential. If we were encouraged by our point vs Arsenal, how encouraged would Stoke be going to the Etihad and beating Man City?

The logic that suggests the high level of performance in the first 3 games will give us an edge in these next five games doesnt work. Its a new game, its a new opponent, and whats gone before isnt irrelevant, but it shouldnt be taken out of context either.

My concern is if we go much longer without winning. Everyone currently is buzzing, but thats to be expected right now. However, the longer you go without winning, the confidence is bound to ebb away. I really, really hope we can keep this level of performance up, because that is what its going to take to survive. Those who suggest any of the teams in this league are weak are bang wrong. We are one of the weakest teams in the league, and we are up against it in every single game.

Im desperate for us to get 3 points.

United are just QPR on acid, reckon we can get the win. It's Stoke I'm worried about. Having said that, we only lost 2-1 last season at their place, and our squad has only gotten better since.

lol

To think, we'll probably be playing a strike force of RVP and Falcao, backed by Rooney, DiMaria and Mata?

We can definately get at their back four though..

Just heard that Falcoa reportedly 'earns' 34 quid per SECOND..

If he dropped a 20 quid note, he'd have been paid more before he had the chance to pick it up!

My honest thoughts about the upcoming 5:

Stoke (A), DRAW: Stoke have progressed into a better footballing team, and boast a solid back 4 and goalkeeper that wont be giving us much opportunity. Itll be a hard earned, point gained draw where goals are at a premium, 0-0 or 1-1 being likely in my view.

Man Utd (H), LOSE: The Man Utd machine will click into gear soon unfortunately, their forward options mean that its inevitable, plus Van Gaal will not stand for any more lacklustre displays. High competition for places within the rejuvenated squad now, and Man Utd should win. But we are capable of lifting our performance as well, we have already seen that.

Crystal Palace (A), DRAW: Warnock is in the Pulis mould, and his team will be ultra competitive. This game screams ugly at me, an odd goal either way if it was to be a win, or a tepid 0-0 draw with tackles going in everywhere is more likely. Palace will be desperate for points just like us, so this will be attritional.

Burnley (H), WIN: Should have enough to see off Burnley with a good level of performance. A game we need to be up for, fit, committed and ready, because 3 points would be huge.

Newcastle (A), LOSE: Newcastle have the foundations of a decent team this time around, and have bought wisely with players like Cabella and Janmaat. Hard to predict as its a long way away, but i dont see Newcastle being threatened by relegation, so itll be a tough trip.

On form i'm inclined to say we've got the toughest game of the 5 out of the way.

The only thing is I think things may change within the teams we've got to play - We'll have to see how Man Utd get on today but if they continue in their shockingly poor form I want a win next week! Newcastle, well will Pardew be there or not? Newcastle is still abit of a dodgy one but again in their form if they continue in that vein we have nothing to fear.

I don't want to jinx ourselves but after a win at Stoke, a really tough place to go we could do really well in these 5 games, not gonna get too ahead of myself need to keep grounded, focused and i'm not saying any of the 4 games are easy but a win yesterday could push on to get a few points out of the next 4.

I can't wait until we batter Stoke and people stop giving them so much credit

Close, but not cigar. :D

Anyway, I would have taken a draw against Stoke. But the quest for points continues:

Man Utd (H) - D

Crystal Palace (A) - W

Burnley (H) - W

Newcastle (A) - D

13 points from the first eight games. Even though Manchester United seem to have issues in the back, their forward line has quality en masse. Crystal Palace away is tough, similar to Stoke away. But with the right attitude, I think we can get a result there.

Burnley at home is an early potential banana skin, as many tend to regard them as a "lesser" team. I think complacency could play into it, I do hope the players are ready for that challenge.

The draw at Newcastle is a cautious prediction, with the mess they're in, it could actually turn into a win, who knows?
