Christmas Markets

Me and the better half are doing Berlin 6th-9th December, really looking forward to it already. I've been told Munich is supposed to be the best in Germany but opted for Berlin cos the missus hasn't been before.

Didn't even realise that about St Nicolas Day on the 6th, nice little bonus.

Was Budapest in late November last year so the Xmas markets were just starting when I was there. Nice city with a real chilled out vibe, would recommend it.

Where are you flying from and how much were the flights? I'm looking to go to Berlin at a similar tome

If you're thinking of Munich, why not pop down to Salzburg afterwards? Lovely city, full of culture and history (and German markets, I'm sure) and pretzels :P only just under a 2 hour drive.

There are great Christmas markets in Brussels, Luxembourg, Trier, Aachen, etc. lots of vin brûlée, big sausages and great little trinkets to give the relatives for Christmas!

Went to one in Bath a couple of years ago that was really nice.

Bath is decent at Christmas. It has a nice feel to it and the Christmas market made it an even nicer experience.

Enjoyed it so much, did it two years on the bounce and would have done it last year if it wasn't for football fixtures.

Can't compare with the real thing in Germany, but just saying Bath is a decent place to visit pre-Christmas.

Decent restaurants and shopping, hotels expensive though.

Sorry mate, only seen this now.

Flying from Heathrow to Tegel on Germanwings. £90 return, booked it last Monday. Not sure if you were planning to fly from East Midlands but just check Skyscanner

The flight times were decent but you can get cheaper if you are prepared to fly at non sociable times.

I can do three nights in Rothenburg plus flights for both of us for three hundred quid. That's Ryan Air to Nurenburg.

Sounds pretty good. The place looks amazing, too.

Is it expensive to eat.and drink there? (Keep in mind I'm not an international man of mystery like you, Carl!)

nuremburg is a stunning place to go itself...and no,,,a night in a beerhall will cost you less than it does in england

Tallinn? Krakow? Northern Italian cities always do fantastic markets and at Christmas I'm sure they'll all look lovely.

Iv not been here for a Christmas yet but having recently moved to Bergamo I can say it's worth a visit. Very picturesc and really cheap flights with Ryanair.

Ha! Fantastic. Hopefully I'll owe you one for the recommendation alone!

Works party is on 19th so we'll be in Rothenburg on 18th, flying back on 20th for the West Ham game.

Bruges has a beautiful christmas market, only small but has an ice rink and is very romantic. (unless you spend most of your trip reciting  bits from "In Bruges", in which case romance is well and truly dead) but youll be funny as fvck :)

You can (or at least could) get a cheap ferry across so its like a cruise as well :)

I am getting bored of going to Vienna every Christmas, so thinking of going to Burnley this year. So much

culture on offer.
