Free Falling Foxes Posted 8 October 2014 Posted 8 October 2014 If I scrap it will be rubble. If I sell I might get double. Apologies to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coPB3GLpx98 No brainer for us we thought. 18 yo Fiesta, engine losing oil, exhaust blowing, drivers door only opens from the inside + another £200 on odds & sods to get through the MOT - which runs out next month & our insurance ends this week - we started ringing scrap yards. Guy at work heard me phoning around and said I would get more from either selling it for spares or indeed someone may want it as is. I'm not so sure now - or am I!?
yorkie1999 Posted 8 October 2014 Posted 8 October 2014 Put it in the mercury for £500, you'll be surprised. Its a price that won't break too many banks, but makes buyers think its a bargain.
Free Falling Foxes Posted 8 October 2014 Author Posted 8 October 2014 What model is it? Fiesta encore
Unabomber Posted 8 October 2014 Posted 8 October 2014 Roll it off the end of a cliff and let it go out in a blaze of glory, it's only fair.
Free Falling Foxes Posted 8 October 2014 Author Posted 8 October 2014 I'll give you five grand. Final offer. Then you miss out my friend!
separator Posted 8 October 2014 Posted 8 October 2014 My neighbour has bought a couple of cars off me in the last few years for spares. They both needed loads of work so I was set to scrap them, he paid me scrap value on them then he did his thing with them to strip them down. I CBA to sell them for spares myself, was just happy to get rid of them. They were a 1995 Peugeot 306 & 1997 Focus. He's a car dealer/mechanic by trade so assume he made a profit by spare parting the cars.
ADK Posted 8 October 2014 Posted 8 October 2014 Fiesta encore I think that's the lowest trim level, does it have power steering and what engine is it? Tempted to say scrap (or keep for 1 more year).
Free Falling Foxes Posted 8 October 2014 Author Posted 8 October 2014 I think that's the lowest trim level, does it have power steering and what engine is it? Tempted to say scrap (or keep for 1 more year). No power steering & 1.3 engine
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 8 October 2014 Posted 8 October 2014 If you're thinking of scrapping, make sure you do a comparison first as the value ranges quite a lot from dealer to dealer. The missus had a crappy old Punto that required massive engine work that she scrapped last year - most dealers were offering £90 at the time but one place had it for £160 and collected for free If you have the space and know-how then breaking can make you a fair bit (depending on what is salvageable) but it's a lot of faffing about
Captain... Posted 9 October 2014 Posted 9 October 2014 Have you tried webuyanycar.com they say they buy any car, repeatedly, at least it will give you a base price to work from. The value in selling for spares is only worth it if you know what you are doing, otherwise you could spend a lot of time and effort for very little reward.
kingcarr21 Posted 9 October 2014 Posted 9 October 2014 when i scrapped my car webuyanycar.com offered me £300 when everywhere else was ranging inbetween £50-£150. In my personal experience id defo recommend looking to see what they offer
Free Falling Foxes Posted 9 October 2014 Author Posted 9 October 2014 I had run the idea to my good lady about selling parts off ourselves but it was quickly vetoed! Must admit I completely forgot about webuyanycar but we must have tried every else. It felt like a cartel to me - no pun intended. Everyone offered £60! but then one yard said 80, plus they would collect it, so off it went. I must be a big softy at heart. I patted it this morning and said sorry old thing but you've got to go..............
