Where is that?

It was in Birmingham, attended and supported by the senior Labour figures Tom Watson, Liam Byrne, Khalid Mahmood, Jack Dromey and Sion Simon.

I wonder if Labour parked the pink bus outside?  GENDER EQUALITY FOR ALL (unless it upsets the bloc muslim vote a la Rotherham)

Ah, I see it now.

Not good to see, whichever party is allowing that to happen.

The Labour party as clearly shown by the signs.

Couldn't it be argued it's just a cultural norm for them? Though it is odd seeing the entire audience being brown skinned and presumably Muslim in an English city. I don't really feel comfortable with that.

Yes, let's start their. That's until we can think of a better excuse.

Stop being racist people.

I'm pretty apathetic about the whole thing and mainly because of the way a Cabinet is formulated.

To be a Minister, say of Education, Transport, Foreign Affairs etc you should have a minimum of 15-20 years post qualifying experience across a breadth of positions in that field. The very notion of somebody filling the position who does not hold that pedigree and associated skills and experience, is to me a nonsense and a fodder for Whip manipulation.

The idea that somebody can be Minister for Transport one week and Education the next is utterly preposterous to me as well.

Until we also address the geographical organisation of election voting and find some sort of reasonable alternative (proportional or otherwise) it's to me a waste of my time because of where I reside. The only point of casting a vote would be to prevent extremism.

Yup cultural norm, so let's just let them get on with it eh?  But what happens if/when Birmingham becomes majority muslim?  Do the norms that these people have brought in with them from deepest darkest Pakistan become Birminghams norms?  Do we just rescind the freedoms we have fought tirelessly for the past millenia to accommodate it?

Labour proving once again they will do ANYTHING go guarantee the muslim vote.  To be fair though, now that they've lost Scotland I suppose that is the only thing they can really bank on.

Indeed it is.

As a Labour voter, I strongly disapprove of gender segregation.

Move on from Labour mate.  I did.

Have you also heard that Miliband intends to make 'Islamophobia' a specific crime to bank the muslim vote?  You know the same thing that prevented the Police from investigating the rape-gangs and the electoral fraud in Tower Hamlets for fear of being branded 'Islamophobic'.  Wake up mate, Labour hate you and everything you stand for.  It is almost becoming cultural suicide to vote for Labour.

It wasn't fear of being labelled 'Islamophobic' that prevented anything being done about what was going on in Rotherham. I can't believe people still believe that claptrap. Nothing was done in order to protect certain abusers. People from all walks of life are involved in the rape/forced prostitution gangs that still do their deeds in this country, and not just some local taxi drivers. It's a huge business involving many people with clout.

Many Muslim girls were victims of what went on there, yet I still hear people say that they only preyed on white girls. Totally devoid of the facts and is about shifting blame.

Ahh OK, so you're denying that the overwhelming majority of abusers in these grooming gangs were Pakistani muslims?  You're denying that that the overwhelming majority of the abused were white working glass girls?  You're also denying that fear of being branded racist and 'disturbing community cohesion' prevented the Police and local councils from tackling the issue for years?

Very interesting if so.

How do we know this is a 'segregation' issue, Bilo?

If, as has been suggested, this is a muslim audience, might they not have chosen to sit apart, adhering to their cultural norms? Or were the seats designated 'male and female' (genuine question, I can't see the picture clearly on my phone)?

I can't see either. It's an issue that needs addressing though as it's a picture that looks a bit jarring.

I've just been reading a piece on the grauniad website, where a Birmingham head-teacher has just said in a conference speech that schools in Birmingham are facing a campaign of threats and intimidation (including dead cats and dogs being dumped in the playground, and death-threats on social media) for teaching that homophobia 'is wrong'.

On the BBC site now:

If people have freely chosen to sit like this because of their culture why does it need addressing?

It need addressing as to whether it's choice on the part of those attending or whether it was planned by the organisers. I suspect, and sincerely hope, it's the former.

You're talking to the King Ostrich there, who would rather claim the CIA committed all acts of terrorism than admit that some small minority of muslims might be a bit twisted - is it any suprise?

Part of their culture also includes genital mutilation, forced marriage and holocaust denial.  Doesn't mean that it should be accepted in this liberal-democratic society of ours.  But apparently by supporting this event Labour appear to be quite cool with gender segregation.  Interesting considering they were supposed to be the party for women in this election.

I said "if they chose freely" do you know if they did, I certainly don't.

Who are 'they?'

I'm reasonably confident that the overwhelming majority of Muslims don't go in for all that shite, and those that do tend to disengage from the mainstream political process anyway.

In all honesty, if you're applying that to British Muslims collectively, you're dangerously close to Britain First territory.

Still no idea who to vote for...  someone convince me.

Labour are twats, vote conservative.

Go and read some of the party policies and form your own opinion rather than ask others to make a decision for you.

Genital mutilation is part of North-Eastern African culture, not mainstream muslim culture at all. Holocaust denial tends to come from a section of muslims in the Middle-East (and certain sections of Western right-wingers anf neo-nazis) not mainstream muslim culture. 'Forced' marriages are no more common in muslim culture than any other culture where arranged marriages are the norm.

Do you actually know any muslims?

And there we are a reasoned view based on a rational assessment would be nice

Edit: but that is about as far as the conservatives have managed to get in the last few weeks
