GingerrrFox Posted 9 May 2015 Share Posted 9 May 2015 Not sure if this is the right thread. But lots of protests happening around downing street today, riot police in full force. I've not heard it being reported anywhere which is a bit worrying. The protesters damaged a war monument to Women though. I don't know why they have to trash things. http://bambuser.com/v/5499931 Typical socialist left wing shite. Throwing a hissy fit because the Conservatives won a fair democratic election. Pathetic wankers.

lgfualol Posted 9 May 2015 Share Posted 9 May 2015 protest I support, that vandalism is a disgrace though Yup. It is the only thing the Daily Mail is reporting about and I bet the other papers will do the same, so that already kills any point the protesters were making. Bilo Posted 9 May 2015 Share Posted 9 May 2015 Half a million people in London today protesting against cuts, the vast majority peaceful. I'd be very surprised if these were the last protests this summer, let alone this Parliament.
GingerrrFox Posted 9 May 2015 Share Posted 9 May 2015 Yeah how dare people not want people's lives to be ruined or even ended by Tory cuts. If Labour hadn't borrowed and spent recklessly for 13 years those cuts wouldn't be necessary. They don't do it for shits and giggles you know. Despite the Tories actually borrowing more than labour and osbourne originally pledging to match labour spending before the global recession. This idea that it's labours fault is utter shite. Bilo Posted 9 May 2015 Share Posted 9 May 2015 Protests and direct action are the only way of changing things now. Not if it makes it easy for the Tory press to paint legitimate opposition as the acts of trouble making anarchists. We dust ourselves down, learn the lessons of this campaign and take advantage when the honeymoon period runs out.

Didn't a number of top economists actually say that Browns economic policies minimised the damage of the financial crisis?
Bilo Posted 9 May 2015 Share Posted 9 May 2015 Yeah let's all sit back and do nothing. It's not doing nothing, it's going about things the right way. There's a leadership contest to come and Labour must choose the right person to win back power. There will be by-elections, local elections and many other opportunities to chip away at the Tories democratically over the next five years. Bilo Posted 9 May 2015 Share Posted 9 May 2015 Didn't a number of top economists actually say that Browns economic policies minimised the damage of the financial crisis? Yes they did, the economy was also beginning to recover by 2010, albeit slowly, anyway. The worst of it was in 2008-2009, but it was the same for pretty much every country in Europe. Another thing Brown did to minimise the damage was to refuse to join the Euro - saved us from having to bail out Greece and Portugal to the same extent as the rest of the Eurozone. Bilo Posted 9 May 2015 Share Posted 9 May 2015 I'm sure the thousands of disabled and other vulnerable people will be delighted by that. What more can be done? It's a Tory government for five years whether we like it or not, it's very unlikely to fall apart or be voted out by Parliament and it's not going to be overthrown by street protests. The only way to challenge it is by democratic means, peaceful protest and rebuilding the opposition so it can win back power in 2020 and slowly chip away at their power in local and by-elections. Smashing up Pret a Manger and painting FVCK THE TORIES on the Cenotaph won't achieve any of that.
Rincewind Posted 9 May 2015 Share Posted 9 May 2015 In France there were country wide protests over changes in the pension age. In Britain someone wrote an angry letter to some local rag complaining about speed bumps.

The NF a genuine political force and slow recovery from recession.
