2015 Election season ..........stuff it in here.

Can't wait for five more years of hard work in the private sector being rewarded.

Everybody knows that people in the public sector do absolutely nothing for their corn.

Kids teach themselves, illnesses can be cured simply by listening to Thatcher's speeches and the bins are emptied by the cleaning fairies.

the pound is up against the dollar.. Hard working people already better off under a majority tory government :)

Unless they export of course!

Anyone else throw up when Cameron talked about Unity?

Don't they all say that?

Everybody knows that people in the public sector do absolutely nothing for their corn.

Aren't Tory MPs public employees?

That's true enough, I was far too young to vote then so feel like I have more of a right to complain. Besides, FPTP has rarely shown it's flaws this badly before, surely?

Oh I do agree, the FPTP has resulted in giving us a government we didn't vote for and I would have voted to have it changed. But democracy has said this is the right system, so therefore it is democratic in that sense.

Don't you know everything - knowledge, health, even human life - has a monetary value rather than, you know, intrinsic value, so therefore if you don't aspire to the same money-based deity you must be denied them?

Of course, that's a pretty radical example of the thoughts of some.

Maybe the tories will indulge their socialist streak some more and adjust teacher's wages so they're more in line with the rest of the world?

We can hope.

Interesting juxtaposition between the posts there. You implying that teachers aspire to some undefined but definitely morally superior goal, the other two directly complaining about cash in the pocket despite young teachers in Britain being among the highest paid in the world.

Pay peanuts, get monkeys, Moose. I thought that was one of the base rules of the market?

There are much, much, much easier jobs available for similar salaries. So yeah, teachers shovel shit from parents, kids, inspectors and governments because they actually want to make a difference to lives by educating.

Ditto most frontline NHS staff.

Much, much, much? What's that based on exactly? We've been through this before and I've shown through good stats that teachers work less hours over the course of a year than most similarly paid professions.

I'm guessing these stats were pulled out of your arse thinking that teachers work 9-3, 39 weeks a year?

Little disagreement regarding the hours. Much more about the nature and stresses of the job itself. Which, sadly, is difficult to measure.

Found myself feeling desperately sorry for Clegg in his resignation speech.  I don't agree with the majority of his policies but I always had a lot of time for him as a man and as an elected official of this country of ours.  Though I am delighted the Conservatives have had a great election, I personally believe the Liberal Democrats deserve lots of credit for helping to get this country back on it's feet.

I feel they deserved far better than last night that's for sure.  I really do hope they can come back from this.

I feel the same.

Much in the same way as it's difficult to measure the stresses of other professions that you'll happily disregard.

Anyway, this ain't no teacher bashing thread. It's a celebration! Teachers will be better off in a strong economy just like the rest of us. Even if you don't like to admit it, today is a great day for everyone who wants to work hard and get on in life in Britain.

And a bad day for anyone in that group not lucky enough to get what they want, as well as those who aren't medically fit to work, who have to kill themselves or starve. But who cares so long as some middle manager in a Watford suburb has an extra tenner a week...

I'm guessing you're counting only face to face hours. Still I'm sure you've defended those at the top of their professions who work very little but get paid lots because of their knowledge. For a person who professes to have benefitted from education to get so many qualifications you do have a hate on for teachers. Were you abused by one or told you were a bad boy?

They won't starve, that's what food banks are for.

I've always said teachers should get paid more. Or more accurately, the teaching profession should pay more to attract better teachers.

Most of my pre-higher education schooling was absolutely dross and I'll never forget that. Some of the teachers didn't deserve any pay at all never mind one of the best teaching salaries in the world.
