MooseBreath Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Actually I agree with Carl. Have you watched the video?
Rincewind Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Yes some time ago.. Found it funny and done well. Nothing wrong with a little political satire. There was also a good one where it showed different party leaders saying almost the same thing. Milliband included so I am not biased in that sense. I do not think there is much difference in their mannerisms. Both smug.
MooseBreath Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Yes some time ago.. Found it funny and done well. It was put up on YouTube on Friday.
Rincewind Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Apologies. it was a similar one i saw. can't remember how it went exactly. cassette boy has done a few of them. https://youtu.be/0YBumQHPAeU
MooseBreath Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Apologies. it was a similar one i saw. can't remember how it went exactly. cassette boy has done a few of them. And you would argue that they are not intentionally misrepresentative?
sphericalfox Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 And you would argue that they are not intentionally misrepresentative? Which bits? I have difficulty understanding and accepting satire too.
Rincewind Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 political humour.. i am not going to get upset over it regardless of which party it is aimed at. It is unlikely to influence or change the views of those on the left or right so where is the problem?

If you've seen the videos, you'll know how ridiculous that is.
MooseBreath Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Which bits? I have difficulty understanding and accepting satire too. I'm desperately gay. I don't know I was thinking maybe the bits where he edits what people have said to make it seem like they're saying something else. Is that a misrepresentation? I'm not sure. Maybe if you edit something like that it actually becomes the real truth? This could be a game changer.
Jimothy Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 It's not misleading, it's a pisstake. Christ Moose if you can't tell the difference between an attempt of comedy and someone trying to mislead there's no hope.
MooseBreath Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 It's not misleading, it's a pisstake. Christ Moose if you can't tell the difference between an attempt of comedy and someone trying to mislead there's no hope. That was exactly my point about how it is obviously a pisstake but that some people will actually be influenced by it, and then up popped ken trying to give it some credibility. I guess I need to stop being subtle when there's lefties about. Keep it plain and simple.

Hehe, you've never read an article, watched the news, read a previous manifesto and thought the same thing?
Rincewind Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Did i say that it was the truth? all I said was that it was political humour. The same has been done for other parties and as I said i will not get upset over it if it goes against my views. Politicians are a good target for humour. And as spherical says editing has been done to make politicians look good also. Its a case of not believing everything you see or hear. It was obviously edited to be a pisstake and I doubt anyone will change their views or be influenced because of it.
sphericalfox Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Someone's come off the fence, or was there ever one...?
purpleronnie Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Labour have opened up a four point lead over the Conservatives according to a new poll released last night. The results has led to speculation that there may have been a ‘Miliband bounce’ after viewers warmed to the party leader’s performance on Channel 4.

Is it just a coincidence that Katie Hopkins promised to leave Britain if labour won?
Rincewind Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Five myths about Europe that need busting before the British general election because it is complicated is why i am in favour of it. if that makes sense. And how does Farage expect to change policies if he does not turn up to vote on them/ That is what he receives his fees for for being a MEP.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 29 March 2015 Posted 29 March 2015 Don't know if anyone is into any Political betting but Betfair have some good analysis on each constituency and also some decent specials. Surely Clegg, Farage and Sammond all to win their seats at 7/4 is huge. Only dubious one is Clegg's seat in Sheffield Hallam as he is hated by the student population now.

I'm very tempted by that 9/1 on the Lib Dems for Bosworth. There is nobody round here that likes our current MP Tredinnick and people are really starting to get fed up with him. The general consensus round here is it could be quite close between all four and if UKIP take enough off the Tories and with the strength the Lib Dems have locally, it could well go to the Lib Dems. Maybe I'm underestimating the national damage done to the Lib Dems but I'm not sure it will have too much effect here. I know I'm considering voting Lib Dem just to try to get rid of Tredinnick, the Tories could have a much stronger majority without him
ramboacdc Posted 30 March 2015 Posted 30 March 2015 officially starts here then. parliament dissolved and all the big speeches will start!
Guest MattP Posted 30 March 2015 Posted 30 March 2015 Raising the tax threshold is just an enormous con: for every £1,000 it is raised (and it was less than that) take-home pay increases by £200 per annum. £4 per week. What difference does £4 a week make? It doesn't even cover the changes in council tax relief, never mind changes to tax credits, or the bedroom tax. And if Cameron is telling the truth about the leaked changes (and there is no reason to believe he is) then the only way he's going to make the billions of savings from welfare that he proposes, will be to reduce Working Tax Credits, which again directly hits the working poor. It's been raised by 4k and if you are on the breadline then I'd imagine that extra money is actually quite significant. As for the other points I don't think they have ever shyed away from what they are going to do to welfare - it's been widely recognised it was out of control and they want to be a government that makes working not shirking pay. The spare room subsidy was totally necessary when the country has reached a bizarre situation where full time workers can barely afford a flat yet welfare claimants are living in houses with spare rooms.

The majority of people claiming Housing Benefit are working. A combination of unregulated rents and low wages is the reason they need financial help. The bedroom tax is punitive because of a complete lack of smaller properties to move to.
