UpTheLeagueFox Posted 26 March 2015 Posted 26 March 2015 A frightening thought if Miliband and Balls get the keys to No10 in May
Guest Bilo Posted 26 March 2015 Posted 26 March 2015 And as I've said before - the fact Balls is somehow still in his job probably shows why the party isn't fit to govern. Certainly not fit to govern a country that is about to go through some serious austerity. Yeah, it's a change I'd make in a heart beat if I'm honest. The thought of Balls in Number 11 scares me far, far more than Miliband next door. Who would I move up? Umunna has impressed me as Shadow Business Secretary and Rachel Reeves could have a big future.
Guest MattP Posted 26 March 2015 Posted 26 March 2015 Umanna talks a good game but it's hard to take a bloke seriously who edited his own Wikipedia page to call himself the British Barack Obama. I don't rate Reeves, just seems another one of these Labour politicians in a decent position purely on the basis of gender. It'd be Burnham, Hunt or Jarvis for me. Although I don't know whether the former has too much experience in economics mind.

Somebody has to fix Gove's fvck-ups.
Rincewind Posted 26 March 2015 Posted 26 March 2015 Oh look, right wing voters think Cameron did better and left wing voters think Milliband did better. What do we learn? They both got a grilling and nobody exactly changed any minds. this
Harry - LCFC Posted 26 March 2015 Posted 26 March 2015 It was silly how many personal questions Miliband got asked. "Oh Ed it must have been tough when you and David were competing for the leadership, was it tough Ed? Was it?" Pointless tabloid-style crap. That woman was useless. Paxman forever.
johnny the fox Posted 26 March 2015 Posted 26 March 2015 Kay Burley has tweeted that Ed is hung like a horse.....a sea horse.
Danno Posted 26 March 2015 Posted 26 March 2015 I liked how they asked him about past labour governments then had a go at him for criticising Blair.
RonnieTodger Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 'Are you alright Ed?' *High pitched voice* 'Yeah...are you?' lol That was one of the most childish things I've ever seen. Surprised at Paxman.
Alf Bentley Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 Well, it's been a funny old week... It looked like being a disaster for Labour when Miliband walked into Cameron's trap over VAT. Yet the Tories have followed up with a series of cock-ups. First, Cameron sticks his foot in his mouth going on about his non-plans for a third term. Then Miliband apparently earns at least a score draw in the first TV debate (didn't see it myself, but the post-debate polls are close - effectively a win for Miliband in the context of how appalling his ratings are generally - and undecided voters apparently thought he was the better performer). Now, to crown it all, Cameron, Hague & Gove seem to have attempted a coup against the Commons Speaker, John Bercow, when they didn't have the votes for it - fvcked it up, in short! Let the Daily Mail explain: "Bercow close to tears as MPs defeat Tory plot to oust him as Speaker as Cameron and Hague are humiliated on last Commons' last day before the election" http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3011690/Plot-oust-Bercow-William-Hague-use-day-MP-change-rules-make-easier-oust-Speaker-election.html Not the sort of headline (or proofreading) you expect to see in the Mail at the start of a Tory election campaign...
Guest MattP Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 I agree with the principle of what they proposed but the way they went about it was shocking. Charles Walker's speech was absolutely fantastic.

Guest MattP Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/ed-miliband-punched-shoved-protesters-5409428 Disgraceful if true.
Jon the Hat Posted 27 March 2015 Author Posted 27 March 2015 I think that's a good analysis - Cameron probably edged it overall but Miliband certainly did better than expected. These things heavily favour the opposition leader though, they have no record to be picked up on - while the government have had 5 years of trying things, and some don't work so they are in many respects an easy target.
Alf Bentley Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/ed-miliband-punched-shoved-protesters-5409428 Disgraceful if true. Reported in the Express, too, not just the Mirror, which has an obvious bias. Thugs in Alex Salmond masks in Rotherhithe? Possibly extremists linked to BNP, EDL or similar?
Guest MattP Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 Reported in the Express, too, not just the Mirror, which has an obvious bias. Thugs in Alex Salmond masks in Rotherhithe? Possibly extremists linked to BNP, EDL or similar? A load of Tories turned up to the Labour conference in these masks a few weeks ago, can't see them doing it in a aggressive way? I doubt they BNP would bother, they'd be more likely to support Miliband than Cameron wouldn't they and certainly not be too bothered about the situation between England and Scotland. That said, at least he knows how Farage feels now when he gets it from the Labour/Green backed AFA/Hope Not Hate extremists etc - Hopefully he'll rethink his parties support for such people after it, no politician should be subjected to being harassed in an aggressive way. I can see the Salmond masks being a regular fixture on the campaign trail though
ramboacdc Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 as it has been made clear here before. i am not a cameron fan so i went into last night with a huge bias. so anything i put is of course open to criticism. cameron wanted this format instead of a debate. as someone has already pointed out to me its because milliband has it all to gain and nothing to lose. fair enough. Cameron in the interview looked shaken. he looked nervous. like he didn't know what to expect. in his q and a tried to make little jokes and wry smiles while making points that he got rid of 22,000 "beurocrats" in the NHS and got in 16,000 doctors and nurses. that's still a 5k deficit there! milliband stumbled on the q and a. he tried to look a man of the people but was set on the back foot. in his interview, once he got off the immigration issue and really stuck it to paxman that he wouldn't answer the loaded question, he came out fighting. he went agressive when he need to, he distanced himself from blair/brown and admitted they got it wrong. he shown more of a human side. the snap poll on sky said cameron won. i aint too sure myself. would love to see these 2 go at it head to head but alas it shall not unless we have a 2nd election this year.

What an inane point. Why would you care about how many bureaucrats the NHS has? Doctors do tend to earn more than admin people and middle managers.
Mike Oxlong Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 Notwithstanding all the media training and advice at their disposal for this process it remains the case that you can't polish a turd.
Alf Bentley Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 I can see the Salmond masks being a regular fixture on the campaign trail though Why not? And Farage masks at Tory events..... I assume that the people in chicken suits will be a fixture, too. I'm not in favour of violence against anyone, but love all the chaos and humour. Election times take us back to the old England of Hogarth cartoons - and give our out-of-touch politicians a crash course in life dealing with Joe/Jo Public in all their manifestations. Here's footage of the Bercow vote last night, complete with MPs (Gary Glitter fans?) shouting "Leader!" and calling on someone (Gove, as Chief Whip, I think) to resign. "Scenes!", as I believe the youngsters say these days! http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2kocdn
davieG Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 I think politicians of the past where generally better at this because they were like stand up comics in that they learnt their public speaking skills on the soapbox on street corners snd in local halls they may not have had the paxman type interviews but they had some severe heckling.

I saw Miliband make a soapbox speech a couple of years ago (as an observer, not a supporter) and was actually surprised how good he was at engaging and dealing with hecklers. As per with big politicians though, it was the entourage and party loyalists who tried to shout the bloke in question down before he went over and actually had a good couple of minutes chatting to the heckler.
EnderbyFox Posted 27 March 2015 Posted 27 March 2015 Can't stand Kay Burley, her biased showed last night. Also she was dressed like she was attending a hen night at a Wetherspoons in Accrington
Jon the Hat Posted 27 March 2015 Author Posted 27 March 2015 my point is. who is he to name who is a bureaucrat? Non clinical staff would be a fairly simple category to identify I would think.
