Callabinho Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 you'll be comparing him to John Curtis next! He's better than that shit bag I'll give him that!
chris_lcfc_85 Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 Anybody that looks back at my posts on this thread can see how much i've defended him and pleaded to give him a chance etc but seems to fall on deaf ears which is a shame. Plus dont agree with the twitter abuse either..... However, having said all that, Simpson 100% deserves a chance. He isnt going to be the saviour but needs to try and show what he can do
lgfualol Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 distribution is often poor You mean hoofing the ball to opposition players when you have tons of time is bad?
chris_lcfc_85 Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 You mean hoofing the ball to opposition players when you have tons of time is bad? YAWN......
Benji Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 To be fair our defence has been very guilty of this recently, although no more so by De Laet than the others.
Guest Col city fan Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 I think people are deluding themselves if they think RDL is particularly good at Premiership level. It was clear in the Everton game that he needs a midfielder in front of him to support him defensively. Knockaert sadly let him down on the day. But as a wing back I think he's lacking. Sure, he's quick..but his distribution into the box is poor. And defensively he gets caught out of position too many times. Regarding the new contract..well, we know that he's a good player at Championship level. And if we keep up in the manner we are going, I'm afraid we may be heading that way. Again, RDL is like the bulk of our squad if truth be told. Solid, hard working players, but of pretty much average ability at this level, I think. Unfortunately, so far, none have stepped up to the Premiership as being clearly better than the rest. We, at present, have a squad crammed with mediocrity.

You may be proved right but you cant say people are deluded after just 11 games. There has been worse performers than him and he like the rest deserve more time. There's no question he has faults and he has to work on his game but i even remember his first season for us in the Championship, defensively average at best but then improved alot on that front last season. Too many fans are too quick on here to write players off.....

Too many fans are too quick on here to write players off..... I do agree but I'm not writing him off. I simply see him as a player who will be 'OK' in the Premiership. Nothing more. And I've seen him play now often enough really to be able to suggest this. But again, I think that could be our problem this season over the longer term. We have a squad of just 'OK' players I think. Nothing and no-one shines out.

He isnt going to be the saviour but needs to try and show what he can do Why do people think the only times these players actually do anything is on match day? If Simpson showed in training week in week out that he's a better player I'd agree with you, but the fact that he can't even get on the bench shows he's not a better option. De Laet is the best player we have in his position, if he wasn't he'd be dropped by the management. Why are people so desperate to put somebody in the starting 11 that isn't even good enough to make our bench most weeks?!? I really don't understand it

Just because he's not on the bench doesnt mean he's not good enough..... Having a RB on the bench isnt always the best option. Like Saturday he had Moore that could cover 2 x positions

De Laet hasnt been in the best form so i think its fair to say others deserve a go
fox in the sox Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 Players who are not in the team always become incredibly good.
Dickov22 Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 Ritchie De Laet is one of our best players in my opinion. He's also one of them who I feel will become Premiership quality.
MrSpaM Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 Plus im not desperate to put Simpson in, i just think he deserves a chance to show what he can do..... De Laet hasnt been in the best form so i think its fair to say others deserve a go Let's swap all our strikers out for academy players whilst we're at it, our strikers aren't scoring so they deserve a chance right?
Babylon Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 Great, another player on a big contract and premiership money in the championship next season. Pompey here we come. You have heard of relegation release clauses haven't you?
chris_lcfc_85 Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 Let's swap all our strikers out for academy players whilst we're at it, our strikers aren't scoring so they deserve a chance right? It about who you have available.... We're using all of our strikers and unfortunately they are not delivering week in week out currently..... Hopefully that will turn but at least NP has tried Wood, Nugent, Vardy and Ulloa We essentially have 2 x first team RB's in De Laet and Simpson so all im saying is Simpson deserves a go.... Plus he's played Prem before so its not like he's an academy product with no experience. See below: He played a solid part in Newcastle's promotion to the Premier League, winning his second Championship title in the process, while forming a right flank partnership with January signing Wayne Routledge. Towards the end of the season, he "played through the pain" with what he considered a small ankle injury. He only realised the full extent of the ankle injury at the end of the season, and he had an operation to correct it. He was out for three months, including the first month or so of Newcastle's season.[22] Simpson returned to action from his injury lay off, playing two reserve games in October. He made his first start of the new season in Newcastle's 2–1 victory over West Ham United, replacing James Perch at right back. Simpson kept his right back spot with consistently strong performances, forming a strong partnership with Joey Barton on the right flank.
Babylon Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 i just think he deserves a chance to show what he can do..... Show who? You or the manager?
chris_lcfc_85 Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 Show who? You or the manager? The manager and his teammates! Match situations are completely different to training so why would we buy him for him to sit out week in week out? As i've said before, im not desperate for him to play as i still like De Laet in there but my argument is just based on the fact I believe he's at least earned the right to start a first team game based on his past experience and the fact De Laet is not at his best

chris_lcfc_85 Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 Simpson played in a 'match situation' yesterday and we lost 0-2 ok, thats it then..... Keep him out the side for the rest of the season
RowlattsFox Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 I've said it before but I do feel sorry for De Laet this year, he seems to be under immense pressure every game and always seems to be up against the opposition best player on the day. He does done good things in a game but people will only remember the bad stuff. He's not helped himself at times with decision making and distribution has been terrible but he has not been helped by team mates or by the manager either. De laet is an attacking threat but not when he has to take people on. He needs quick one twos and through balls to get him in behind. 4 years is a lot and timing probably not great. If we gave a new contract in the summer then I'd bet most would be delighted.
MrSpaM Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 ok, thats it then..... Keep him out the side for the rest of the season Some quality sidestepping of the point there
Ian S Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 This thread is laughable. This season wether we have played the diamond or with either Knockaert or Marhez wide right, De Laet has had no protection what so ever. De Laet currently has the hardest job in our team, as we are relying on him as pretty much our only outlet going forward due to us having zero width, but to then recover and get back into position to stop some of the worlds best in Hazard, Di Maria, Sanchez etc single handily with full backs overlapping also. The calls for Simpson to replace him every week make me cringe. The guy did nothing of note at QPR last season. The only right back arguably better than De Laet last season was Trippier, now all of a sudden Simpson is the answer to our defensive problems when realistically we are going to get exposed eventually with the amount of pressure the formation is putting on our defence! Ian S Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 What the f--k is Pearson up to? RDL is a plastic player! I am coming to believe that Pearson has totally lost the plot, and is a plastic manager. What a bloody w----r! Maybe it is time for him to go, after all. Are you serious? If so maybe ''what a bloody w***** " is accurate, just aimed in the wrong direction.
