fox in the sox Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 Super player - solid at the back and great pace going forward. Really pleased with this news.
Unabomber Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 Pearson's face when he realised how worked up Matt would be about the new De Laet deal Will somebody please dangle that ****ing carrot!!!
TheUltimateWinner Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 Last seasons contract renewals were based on reward for promotion...
Fox92 Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 good news, a player with good potential too many will moan because his current form is not great.... pathetic really I'd say a player nearing 26 is not a player with "good potential".
Filbert_Ross Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 Getting loads of abuse on twitter. That'll help his form. Braindead twats.
benpicko Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 Super player - solid at the back and great pace going forward. Really pleased with this news. Thanks for the input De Laet
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 What the f--k is Pearson up to? RDL is a plastic player! I am coming to believe that Pearson has totally lost the plot, and is a plastic manager. What a bloody w----r! Maybe it is time for him to go, after all.

benpicko Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 Almost avoided having to see a Dangerous Tiger post and then you quote it
Tuna Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 Great, another player on a big contract and premiership money in the championship next season. Pompey here we come.
Unabomber Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 Great, another player on a big contract and premiership money in the championship next season. Pompey here we come. Great. Just bloody great.
Corky Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 Great, another player on a big contract and premiership money in the championship next season. Pompey here we come. Great, signing De Laet means we'll have three relegations. He's on astronomical wages mate, possibly millions a week. Zlatan, Rooney, Toure- not even in the same bracket. To be honest, I doubt we'll survive the season paying this dollar to players. Fvck me, what's going on?
Itsthejoeker Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 Do people still think NP hands out contracts?
Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 This thread is laughable. This season wether we have played the diamond or with either Knockaert or Marhez wide right, De Laet has had no protection what so ever. De Laet currently has the hardest job in our team, as we are relying on him as pretty much our only outlet going forward due to us having zero width, but to then recover and get back into position to stop some of the worlds best in Hazard, Di Maria, Sanchez etc single handily with full backs overlapping also. The calls for Simpson to replace him every week make me cringe. The guy did nothing of note at QPR last season. The only right back arguably better than De Laet last season was Trippier, now all of a sudden Simpson is the answer to our defensive problems when realistically we are going to get exposed eventually with the amount of pressure the formation is putting on our defence!
Captain... Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 I can't be arsed to read the same clueless comments from the usual clueless posters, first of all, NP, he doesn't write the contracts, that is the DoF, so anyone using this for more pathetic Pearson bashing is a nob rash. Secondly, has nobody else noticed that a lot of players are being signed up to 4 year contracts? I am thinking it is a standard contract for players that are under 28, and it probably has built in release clauses, relegation clauses and termination clauses so that we can have players tied to us to stop them going to other clubs, but minimise the risk should we want to get rid of them, or get relegated. It will also be covered by parachute payments should we get relegated and give us the best chance of coming back up by keeping this team together. Of course I may be wrong and in 4 years time we could be in League one with all these players still here on premier league wages, much like what happened to Wolves, but I give our owners a bit more credit than being so naïve. But hey lets all go mental at Pearson and a player that was instrumental in our best season for over a decade because we are a bunch of morons.
kingcarr21 Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 Im actually quite happy with this. I like De Laet. Yes he can be frustrating but all players can be. I wonder though if perhaps he would be better suited RW rather than RB. His attacking play is much better than defensive. I quite like the idea of Konch and Schluup on the left with both players overlapping and both understanding the defensive role of the LB position so i wonder if we could have a similar set up with De Laet on the RW and Simpson RB? Kasper Simpson Morgan Moore Konch Drinkwater James De Laet Mahrez Schluup Ulloa Mahrez in a free role to link up with Ulloa. Maybe im experimenting too much but i wonder if this would actually work?
Bettsj2 Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 Do people still think NP has NO input into the handing out of contracts? His performances whether covered or not have not been up to standard. This is only a good deal if we get relegated.
Danno Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 People actually think De Laet should play on the wing lmao

Best post of the lot, well said..... It makes me cringe when i see twitter and this site littered with people (mainly our own fans) slating and giving the lad abuse! Its poor really that despite a few average games by his standards this season, he's getting destroyed on social media As i pointed out in a previous comment, i would love to have a look back on this site at the abuse Drinkwater got on here, fans wanted him gone then he proved everyone wrong last season before he got bummed by our fans for getting a new contract.... Fickle to say the least. When will some of you learn to give these lads a chance!!!???
lgfualol Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 People actually think De Laet should play on the wing lmao Because of his consistantly good crossing abilities
kingcarr21 Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 People actually think De Laet should play on the wing lmao Like i said it was just a thought. simple logic would suggest if hes better attacking than defending then RW would be a better position . Gareth Bale started at LB and now look at him. Now im not suggesting De Laet could emulate what Bale has done but he could be utilised better as a winger rather than a full back imo.

I would rather see him work on his defensive abilities, which are nowhere near as bad as people make out, he just needs to learn when to go forwards and when to hold back, and the midfield and defence need to know how to cover him. Hammond did a good job of it early on, and Mahrez. But we need to attack as a team and that doesn't mean sending everyone forwards, but if Konchesky and Schlupp and marauding down the left, we need to shuffle across a bit at the back and RDL needs to hold his line and not join the attack, likewise Konch if RDL is attacking, and players like James, Hammond and Cambiasso need to fill in any holes caused by the full backs going forwards.
Callabinho Posted 13 November 2014 Posted 13 November 2014 I would rather see him work on his defensive abilities, which are nowhere near as bad as people make out. Behave, when he has to think about things he is awful, track back to Watford at home last season, their first goal, that shocking showcase of defending is something you would have seen in a Sunday morning pub game. He can't read the game properly, distribution is often poor, positioning questionable and his anticipation of play is garbage. I appreciate that he does get left exposed, but he's and average player at best, Trippier was head and shoulders above him last season.
