oxfordfox Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 How many teams have been bottom in November and Finished above 17th? One. Palace under Pulis.
ZeljkoKalac1 Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Martin done very well for us in a different era. In truth though he was never a better Manager than Pearson. Martin was a good motivator but couldn't coach, preferring to leave that to others. A whole different debate all together! Some Managers like Martin and Sir Alex rarely got involved in training etc, however some like Jose Mourinho and Sven-Goran Erikson did everything.
sylofox Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Yes. Ok well as you are so good with trivia. Can you tell me if there is a thread on this forum you have not posted this fact at least once?

Clever Fox Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 I accept your point but Fergusion rarely missed training. My point was that between the two of them Mon and NP. NP is clearly a whole lot better manager.
ZeljkoKalac1 Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Given that "best since Martin" could mean mediocre then I accept your point. I was hoping for better. Apologies for using words available in the English language. Apology accepted young man - remember you're on a football forum and big words will simply confuse the masses and limit the replies to your posts. I got my point across? Great. I can go and watch Homeland now ... Enjoy!

Agreed, But the job is so much more difficult now than then. Nigel is a proper coach and Manager who has the whole club well set up football wise. Who know what restrictions were placed on him and the Scouts when it came to recruitment and FFP.
Babylon Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 The margins between us getting a decent result and a bad one have been exceptionally tight in most games. We've not really been hammered and have been in with a chance most games. A little bit of extra quality where it matters could make all the difference in games with our rivals. The question is can we get them in come January and will we be able to keep in touch until then.
Corky Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 We are bottom but in most aspects we aren't the worst team such as goals scored and conceded, home and away records, goal difference, even longest run without a win. Just the points. We aren't being thrashed, our biggest defeat is the same margin as our biggest win. We're losing too many close games, in some ways more annoying than being battered every week. We're one of several struggling teams. Currently our run is awful along with Villa's, having replaced QPR and Burnley for the worst form teams.

NP has always said January is a difficult time to make the right signings and that was when we were top of the Championship. It'll be next to impossible if we're still in the bottom 3. Hopefully we can turn it around by then as I can see a disastrous window if not. If they thought prices and wage demands were inflated in the summer, January will make the managements heads explode!

But we have been getting better albeit slowly. I think Upson will be a big plus when he comes into the side. Play with Wingers move the ball quicker and press further up the pitch. Then things will improve.

If we take it money was not the problem in the summer and players did not want to join us we have little chance in Jan. If money was not got it / just being careful we either stand no chance in Jan or it was being very short sighted. I don't think we will ever know those answers and I just hope Nige can work wonders with our overseas scouting.

ozleicester Posted 1 December 2014 Posted 1 December 2014 We have a championship side and we are playing premier league sides, the results and position dont come as a surprise to me. Whether the players will improve enough and whether we can buy a couple of Prem quality players remains to be seen.

Martin was a good motivator but couldn't coach, preferring to leave that to others. You for real or a wum? Matt Gillies, Jimmy bloomfield were better managers than your beloved Pearson all in the top flight of football at the time. To believe that Pearson is a better manager for our club than O' Neal really is a joke though.

If they thought prices and wage demands were inflated in the summer, January will make the managements heads explode! He does say that, and we all know that... but we still managed to get Mahrez for £400k and most people on here consider him to be one of the players good enough for this league. It can be done, but as you say it's not going to be easy. Could it have been done in the summer? Who knows, none of us have the information available to know what the problems were. If we were budgeted to £10/£15m then the owners need to realise they are reaping what they sowed some what. If Pearson chose not to spend money, then that's something they will consider when the times comes they need to think about keeping or getting rid. Are you really banking your/our hopes on Matt Upson? What else do we have Can he play up front?
Raj Posted 1 December 2014 Posted 1 December 2014 Er yes........... "THAT" easily, you're just justifying my point! oh dear. Have you watched football before this season? Erm...Think YOUR getting abit confused... I was stating that it ISNT THAT easy to turn things around..as we've been trying for so long and it doesnt look like turning around...but still...you keep thinking it will.....
MC Prussian Posted 1 December 2014 Posted 1 December 2014 You for real or a wum? Matt Gillies, Jimmy bloomfield were better managers than your beloved Pearson all in the top flight of football at the time. To believe that Pearson is a better manager for our club than O' Neal really is a joke though. That wasn't his point, was it? He was simply comparing Pearson to O'Neill and said what the latter did best while he was here. Gillies took over when we were already safe in the First Division, Bloomfield as well. None of them had to deal with trying to get us to the top flight by overcoming Championship (Division Two) or League One (Division Three) opposition. And arguably, the Championship has become a whole lot better and more competitive over the course of the past 40, 50 years with all the international influx.
seenitall Posted 1 December 2014 Posted 1 December 2014 or to put it into perspective, were 3 points off palace in 14th place, have a manager who has never been relegated, got us promoted twice, once absolutely hammering the league. we have a strong scouting system and I hate to mention it, beat man Utd in one of the best games I've watched. to put it into even more perspective, were now denigrating a man who only a few weeks ago, people were tipping to be the manager of england when he had finished with us. fickle little peons. Another myth is the 'strong scouting system'. Based on what exactly - we barely have a handful of players that another Premier League club would want and the ones they might (Kasper, Liam Moore, Schlupp) were not scouted by Pearsons scouts. The nearest they have got to scouting a quality player is Mahrez and even he came after the director of football was appointed so we'll never really know who 'scouted' him. The rest are crappy rejects from Prem teams, most never good enough to even get on the bench or a League cup game for their previous teams. We thought it would be easy to get average players and turn them into world beaters like Martin did but sadly the management and/or the raw material is not up to it so I wholly reject the scouting ability schtick. The four year contracts to NP's cronies is more damaging than Sven's long term signing of players like Andy King and Schlupp and Moore, but at least they are half decent players. It's a mess to be sure, but a new manager while there is still time to attract three or four decent players in could save us, otherwise its down we go and I fear another ten years in the wilderness.

Ah but, could all those International players play on mud baths and ploughed fields of pitches as in those days? Watch clips of games in the seventies for example and you will see the likes of Maine Rd, Old Trafford, the baseball ground pitches looking lime ploughed fields. Watch our win at Luton in the cup for example the likes of Weller, Dennis Law, George Best didn't let them pitches effect them. Personally I couldn't see any of the overpriced maradonnas of today play on those pitches for fear of injury or getting their shirts dirty that includes the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo, Messi etc Back to original poster no way is Pearson a better manager than those three mentioned I stick by what I said. The only thing of relevance come the end of the season will be Pearson will have a relegation from the top flight of football, at the time, on his cv fact.
