Wilson_6 Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Is it just me who doest actually think our manager and squad is terrible? I don't think the quality has anything to do with it at the moment. IMO we are just a bit low on confidence and that's why it inst happening in the final third of the pitch. We have a decent squad of players who will only get better with time. Last night we were unlucky not to get a few goals, i know you make your own luck but it feels like at the moment balls just aren't falling kindly for us. Start the same team as last night and play they way we did and we should hammer villa on Sunday. Sorry but i just really don't feel we are far away from being a good team. Positive rant over i know how much you hate them on here.
VLC86 Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Quality at key moments is missing from players who's ability to cut it at this level was over estimated. First time I have been to the KP since United yesterday, season ticket holder but lived in Italy for 4 months before you start , and I thought we did well. Should Morgan have done better for the first 2? No doubt, could we have done better in a few attacking situations? Of course but we played for the manager. I heard Matty James get slated but for me him and Cambiasso look like they a good partnership. We need to go and sign 4 players who's names will be the first on the team sheet right down the spine to stay up. The problem is them 4 players are going to demand big money and probably not be too happy with a big drop if we are relegated.
Merging Cultures Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 I agree. We have some OK players, and the team is not doing badly as a whole, despite our current position. The issue is with individual errors. I am sure the culprits are feeling terrible. Do you drop them given how costly the mistakes are? Or do you keep playing them so that they can have a good game and recover their confidence? Unfortunately, with the latter, they keep making the same mistakes. We've shown we can create chances and score goals, now we need to tighten up the back and we will do better. For me, it does involve changing Kasper for Hamer, possibly Simpson for RDL and Upson for Morgan. Also, should consider, Albrighton for Schlupp and possibly making Cambiasso captain.
cc_star Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Tactics. Tactics. Tactics. I'm an unashamed NP fan but he's getting it wrong We need to play deep, defend in numbers & hit teams on the counter We need one or two of our mids to play as dedicated CDMs & cover the defence as well as tracking opposition mids runs into our box. While we're playing two mids who both have to run box-to-box we'll be exposed during games against teams who have players good enough to take their chances We're very easy to play against, we need to make it difficuly Hamer RDL Wasilewski Upson Schlupp King Cambiasso Albrighton Mahrez James Ulloa Attacking FBs providing width, 4 defensive players with the 2 CBs & CDMs provide cover That leaves 4 attacking players who can be interchangeable depending on form & (horses for courses) opposition. I'd like to see Mahrez central behind Ulloa, but that could be Nugent if we need a shift putting in against a team who plays a deep CDM who pulls their strings, in yet other games Drinkwater or Knockaert Our inability to defend in numbers & play anything other than two up top will see us relegated Nige needs to switch up the tactics & not just a token change of personnel, his loyalty & belief isn't being rewarded, so **** 'em
shade Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 I agree, I don't think you can put the arsenal, everton, Stoke and man Utd results down to flukes or "they weren't prepared yet". I think we have more than enough quality to finish 15th or above and just need the confidence back.
lgfualol Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Obviously our team can play well enough to get points from anyone in this team, apart from Chelsea. Not sure why our team seem to always be having a confidence crisis. And not sure why it takes so long for them to play well again either. I think Nigel's laid back attitude doesnt help at all. I still want to see good signings in Jan. Players with top flight experience.

But i very much doubt he's like that with the players behind closed doors. Praise in public, criticise in private type thing.
artursteppe Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Our squad may be on a par with the teams around us, maybe. Sunderland, WBA,QPR,Burnley andPalace, but we've played three of these at home and two away and got no wins and two draws, yes that's right folks 2 whole point out of a possible 15 against the teams we need to be beating to survive. So if the manager and the squad are good enough, what FFS is the answer? Pearson got us promoted, or was it the players Walsh brought in with those Pearson's best mate tipped us about from Man Utd. ( Answers on a post card ). Pearson also went 17 games without a win in the Championship ( two years ago ) when we were almost nailed on for promotion. So what do we do FFS? I really do not like change, but he is a lost soul at the moment. He was changing the team too much, now he isn't changing it at all. He hasn't got a clue about what we should be doing. Most managers are poor I believe, they always have been. Yes there is always the really intelligent elite who we all know, but after that they are all much of a muchness, but we can't afford 17 matches without a win at this time!

Football is a confidence game and were on a bad run at the moment. Vardy's first effort pretty much summed that up. we just need one win and i think we could go on a good run.
cc_star Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 I like Nigel's tactic of "having faith in a good group of players", in effort to aid confidence... but where is this management tactic & loyalty getting him? Any good manager (of which Pearson is one) knows if you keep with the same input you'll get the same outputs (eg. Defeats)... So you need to change what he puts in Eg. Come out & say it was only right he should have faith in players that got promoted in such style, but it's obvious we need to add quality & this group of players is playing for their futures. Follow that up by dropping a big name or three, bringing in Powell & a sprinkling of the dev squad And see if that motivates the players who are endlessly making the same mistakes game after game. You get the performances you tolerate, so if you tolerate sloppy defending & wasteful chances, you get sloppy defending & wasteful chances FFS mix it up!
EGBFitness Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Totally agree. You can't dominate the championship in the style we did and move to the premier league & look as poor as we are doing. Abit more quality and maybe premier league experience is required in Jan. Lack of confidence, concentration and luck has gone against is recently but a lot has got to be said with tactics. I have always feared what we would be like once we hit a couple of losses, last season was such a breeze and confidence was so high that I think continuity took over but when look back at the season before it ehen we hit 16 games without a win was it? Pearson didn't know what to do then either! Could get right tactics and couldn't motivate the team, this is the same situation now. He needs to play to our strengths like we did at the start of the season rather than playing to the opposition, we have proved we our strong and good enough playing that way!

Morgan had a nightmare last night and wasn't great against QPR, I am glad he is suspended for Villa , not because he's a terrible center back but because after the past two games Moore really does deserve a go and there is no way in a month of Sundays Pearson will drop Morgan unless his hand is forced, I think Marcin has done really well since coming in as well so hopefully those two can put in a solid performance, Konchesky can carry on being surprisingly average in this division and De Laet can sort his defending out (that or Danny Simpson should get a go) add Kasper sorting his life out into the equation and we might look like we have a reasonable defense instead of leaky one that's been on display in the last two games. Ideally I think we might need to buy a center back in January. I think anyone with half a brain is praising our midfield after last night, especially given they were a 2 against a 3 (a 3 with a stupid amount of international caps at that) I thought they were very good, Mahrez played well first half, fantastic ball for the goal, didn't always make the right decision in the second half and touch let him down on a couple of occasions. Jeffrey wasn't good enough shouldn't be starting regularly at this level, not yet anyway. How he gets in in front of Albrighton is beyond me. That'd be the first thing I'd change. You take Manchester United away from him Vardy has looked every bit as toothless as I expected him to in this league but I doubt Nugent would do any better and Wood and Ulloa together just aint gonna work so I'd consider looking at a striker in January as well.
indierich06 Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Make no mistake, we are our own worst enemies at the moment. We're not being outclassed or battered, we're just gifting teams points at the moment. Look at last night for example - two unforced errors from Morgan and Schmeichel and we give away two incredibly soft goals. The most experienced Leicester player on the pitch somehow contrives to miss an open goal after a horrendous **** up from Mignolet. By rights we should be sitting here celebrating a hard fought 2-1 win, but due to the efforts of our own players - whether it's down to nerves, lack of confidence, whatever - we're on the end of an extremely disappointing loss. I feel sorry for Pearson tbh. There's not much he can do to stop individual errors from players bereft of confidence and it could mean the end of his tenure at the club if it doesn't get sorted fast. I don't want him to go and I want him to turn this around, but I think if we lose against Villa and other teams around us get results, then his time will be up. And to be honest, while I would be extremely sad to see him go, I don't think he could have too many complaints either. Biggest game of his career coming up on Sunday. The players seem to love to play for Pearson - well if they want to keep him, they need to dig in and start getting results.
Captain... Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 You're not the only one, it is just the morons unable to handle a set back and calling for players and managers to be sacked seem to shout the loudest and repeat themselves a lot. Most fans don't feel the need to spell out that they support the manager and the team.
HitchinFox Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 I'm encouraged by the comments in this thread. Lots of sense being spoken. We are in a rut, clearly, but definitely have the personnel to turn it around and stay up. And I don't think it's naive to think that we, as fans, might be able to help a little bit. At least Pearson's comments last night confirm that we do have the ability to have a negative effect - so why couldn't we have a positive one? Lets pick ourselves up - again - and head to Villa. The boys need our backing, not abuse from the stands. Lets sing our hearts out next Saturday. A positive chant along the lines of "we'll never go home, Nige, we're here to sing for you" or something would be appropriate me thinks. Get the old misery guts smiling again.

Callabinho Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 It's lack of confidence, and a lack a premier league experience. That's been the difference in this run, we haven't been getting outclassed or battered, the goals we've conceded have been down to our mistakes.

Funny that such a comment comes from a bloke that pleaded we shouldn't sign Ulloa..quite simply the only striker who has scored a few goals for the club. Imagine if we hadn't, how things stand. But i'll let that go. Anyone with 'half a brain' can see that it aint working. With the current crop, the 4-4-2 is leaking goals. Thats 6 in the last two, against QPR (one of the worst sides in the division) and an out of sorts Liverpool side. None of this 'but we score like scoring goals' stuff, if we continue in this suicidal fashion, we will be relegated. No side can continue to get torn to pieces, defensively and survive. We do one of two things IMO. We either stick with two box-to-box midfielders BUT play players who can play box-to-box, or we continue with your precious Cambiasso and play a DM behind him to allow him to orchestrate things further forward. Like O'Neill did with Garry Parker and Neil Lennon. There..a way to retain Cambiasso AND stop us oozing goals like blood from a cut. I'm a bleeding genius me! Does that mean I have a 'whole' brain?

Plenty of people have met me why don't you ask them. I have little patience for outspoken morons who think they know it all and think if they shout loudest they'll be right, I have to admit. I stand by that, could of got someone better for the money, he's not scored in months and he cost us 8 million. So no need to let it go Col. You don't have the first clue about football if you think our midfield was to blame last night, first goal we once again failed to clear a set piece and defended poorly, second goal got opened up on De Laets flank, defended poorly by Morgan, goal, third goal, after going down to 10 after another dire bit of defending, a goal keeper howler, we had 2 against their 3 in midfield and still walked out of the game with nearly 50% possession despite playing 30 minutes with 10. We aren't being "torn apart" defensively at all I somewhat wonder if you even watch the games sometimes. They had three shots on target in the entire game, Wes Morgan claiming two assists and Kasper Schmeical playing a key role for Liverpool third and the problem is the midfield lol ? You can play 8 in midfield if you want pal if your center halves are going to set up the other side, score own goals, get sent off, your keeper can't catch a ball, and our team can't deal with simple set pieces (which I believe covers the source of all six of the goals you mention) we are going to lose games and get relegated, open your eyes and look at the real problems. 4-5-1 could work for us if used correctly but there is certainly no need to implement it because our midfield has been poor they have both being playing well, our strikers (including Ulloa) are not scoring and missing simple chances and we are handing sloppy goals out, that's why we are loosing, so no nothing about your take on the current situation suggests you have anything between your ears never mind half a brain.
shiltz Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Mostly feel positive about our performances, as is said not outplayed really - didn't think Liverpool outclassed us last night, just they took their chances and found the net. We looked better once down to 10 men! Not a fan of the Pearson out campaign myself think careful what you wish for as we've been down the manager merry go round before. However think NP needs to show some real steel now and make some changes, would drop Schmeichel and give Hamer a few games, as he's been looking more suspect as weeks go by.
