deep blue Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Villa's second and City's goal today both came down our left! I'm just sayin'. Good point. Not necessarily the RB's fault, though. In both cases their winger was faced by 2 of our players but they failed to work together to close him down and stifle the threat.
cc_star Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Pretty flat footed Vs Villa. Goals still conceded from that flank, not Konchesky's who gets all the flack. RDL has struggled when LB & LW have ganged up on him, whereas Mahrez far more disciplined Vs City So let's not start sucking each others dicks just yet

Most goals we have conceded this season have come down our right hand side.
StanSP Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Villa's second and City's goal today both came down our left! I'm just sayin'. Means fvck all when you take in to account that for one of the goals our centre-back has been dragged out to right-wing and no-one can be arsed to mark their right back in acres of space.
Dr The Singh Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 That's what he said when the goal went in
Dickov22 Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 I like them both. Think people need to give Simpson a few more games before deciding he's 'definitely superior to De Laet'. Good that we have two good players for one position. Unlike at left back
savillefoxes Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Why not play De Laet in front of Simpson. Bag of energy to get forward and help out at the back. De Laets defending has always been suspect so why not use his pace going forward.

De Laets defending has always been suspect so why not use his pace going forward. Would never work. He has the ability and pace to overlap nothing else. Coupled with the fact his crosses are usually dogshit, its not an option I think we should bother with.

There is absolutely no need to change anything at all until we see what this formation does against weaker opposition than Man City, we looked great yesterday.
CPW22 Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 I prefer Simpson over RDL but I do wish he would take a touch at times rather than knocking or heading it back directly where it came from. Knoch is the same too.
adam95581 Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Thought he was at fault for the goal to be fair. Wasilewski told him where to be and he didn't fill the space. You could tell he was a full back covering a centre half at that point. Apart from that he's been decent though.

He lost Lampard and didn't track his run.
Buzzell Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Think Cambiasso got caught ball-watching too. He lost Lampard and didn't track his run. Agreed. This was pulled up by Savage last night on MOTD. He should of dropped back into the center of midfield and tracked Lampard before his goal.

StanSP Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Careful you two. I've suggested this in the post match thread and been called a 'moron'. how and why?!
Dom_Harborough Fox Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Got to be honest, wasn't over the moon when we signed Simpson. Thought he'd be decent back up at this level but nothing more. Credit where it's due, he's come in and done well. Feel we're more assured defensively with him in the side and there've been a couple of times where he's overlapped pretty well and got a ball in too. I'm a fan of De Laet but Simpson deserves his place in the side at the moment and having that competition for the RB slot should make both of them step it up.
Dickov22 Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 how and why?! Because it 'obviously wasn't Cambiasso's fault, it was Simpson's fault' Odd. His man, so majority of the blame sits with him. Collectively though we are a ****ing embarrassment defensively
The Doctor Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Would rather De Laet tbh - at fault for the goal yesterday (people can try to pin the blame on Cambiasso and Konch, but it's his man to pick up, and he didn't) and showed no real improvement over De Laet, considering how De Laet dealt with Sterling against Simpsons two performances I'd say he's a more steady defender.
Saxondale Posted 15 December 2014 Posted 15 December 2014 I cannot believe what I'm reading about Simpson. I thought he was absolutely hopeless on Saturday. Maybe I'd accidentally eaten some magic mushrooms and was tripping my tits off, because he looked like a massive liability to me.
L1wood Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 I've always rated Simpson as a RB even when he has played against us . Some people are raving abit RDL being our best player so far but IMO i don't see it too many times he gets caught out
MrSpaM Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 I've always rated Simpson as a RB even when he has played against us . Some people are raving abit RDL being our best player so far but IMO i don't see it too many times he gets caught out For every time RDL get's caught out, he makes at least 4-5 great tackles or gets us out of the shit. People only seem to notice when he makes a mistake though. He gets clapped a lot more than he gets berated by the fans on match day.
L1wood Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 Key is we conceed far too often from him being reckless in position For every time RDL get's caught out, he makes at least 4-5 great tackles or gets us out of the shit. People only seem to notice when he makes a mistake though. He gets clapped a lot more than he gets berated by the fans on match day.
