Bamba's Babes Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 Danny Simpson is a far superior right back than Ritchie De Laet. He might not have the pace and direct running style of RDL but his defensive capabilities are an improvement on what we had for the first part of the season. For whatever reason Simpson wasn't playing earlier in the season and that was a clear oversight. Hopefully they are seeing the same things as I and many others.
cityfanlee23 Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 His crossing improved this week and I felt more confident with him at RB, As i've said before today, I hope we get him back to his prime where we have the RB that everyone was raving about at Newcastle, Attacking he's solid, defensively solid, Give him time he could well be a very good purchase.
Unabomber Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 Yeah much much better. He can actually defend for a start.
StanSP Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 Liking his performances so far. When RDL is back from injury (?) I doubt he'll go straight back in. Swung in some decent crosses today.
Gary Eatfood Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 Liking his performances so far. When RDL is back from injury (?) I doubt he'll go straight back in. Swung in some decent crosses today. I thought RDL was just ill and was available today?
cjslcfc Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 He looks a lot more solid defensively than RDL but again, like Hamer, I will save my judgement on him. Good performance today though, a lot better than he was on Sunday.
StanSP Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 I thought RDL was just ill and was available today? Not sure mate. Just thought he was injured.
Dynamogoon Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 Better defender by far. Had a good game. So did the rest of the boys

One of De Laets biggest flaws for me is that he stands off too much whereas Simspon gets well stuck in. Knows when to make the cynical fouls too.
narboroughblue Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 Simpson arguably better defensive, both woeful in the air but RDL far superior going forward so horses for courses for me.
Unabomber Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 Simpson arguably better defensive, both woeful in the air but RDL far superior going forward so horses for courses for me. No argument necessary.
narboroughblue Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 No argument necessary. In your opinion maybe, he was much better today. First 30 mins v Villa I was very concerned and some of his distribution today wasnt great. Also needs to practice taking throw ins, they were very poor.
Monsell1976 Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 Think he can only keep getting better, with more games under his belt, only played two full games now, and for me is making a good claim on keeping the starting place
sdb Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 Simpson far better player although I thought we missed RDL's lung-busting runs today. DS should have RB nailed down now though. Shame we didn't have him from week 1.
dbtcity Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 Simpson arguably better defensive, both woeful in the air but RDL far superior going forward so horses for courses for me. It's all well and good being good going forward but when your final ball is as bad as rdl's is it kind of defies the point in getting forward, Simpsons game looked all round better to me, defensively solid, knows when to throw his body in the way and his balls into the box when he got forward actually looked dangerous
theessexfox Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 Think he's been good both games personally.
ARTY_FOX Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 Felt more comfortable with him at right back today, he's only gonna improve with more game time aswell. Was it him who took the rocket from toure In the first half? Started running funny for a min or two after
dbtcity Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 The only thing he lacks is a bit of pace but his positional sense and his ability to get his body in between player and ball more than makes up for it
Buzzell Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 He should of been introduced into the first team well sooner. Hope he cements his place into the side.
Bamba's Babes Posted 14 December 2014 Author Posted 14 December 2014 Makes the 4-year-deal for De Laet just damn strange. He could do a job from the bench in a RW role when we're leading and need to protect a lead.
chicagofox Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Villa's second and City's goal today both came down our left! I'm just sayin'.
Dan Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Far more assured with him there and I don't think Mahrez exactly suffered without De Laet either to be honest.
