FoxesAreBlue Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 If anyone is watching this, what was the song that they played over the clip about the 2014 World Cup?

Corky Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Jason Roberts is on the judging panel for this event. JASON ROBERTS!?
Jimothy Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Jason Roberts is on the judging panel for this event. JASON ROBERTS!? Amazed it's not a list of 10 black people then.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 14 December 2014 Author Posted 14 December 2014 How about the one on now as they introduce the contenders for the main prize?
marko Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Booooooooooooooo! Hamilton had to beat one man, Rory had to beat 100+
Jimothy Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Booooooooooooooo! Hamilton had to beat one man, Rory had to beat 100+ Can only beat what's put in front of you. Same as when people point out Rory won more titles, Lewis only had one to win, so you can't compare. Anyway it's voted for by the public, you can't complain really. Both of them would have been worthy winners.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Rory, but it was always going to be either Hamilton or Rosberg who won the World Championship as their car was light years ahead of their rivals, but there were lots of different golfers who could have won a major.
Strokes Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Lewis had a great year but rory s achievement far outstripped it for me. Never mind, well done lewis.

True, but if that's the case lets just discount anyone who wins in a sport that doesn't have hundreds of competitors. I would have been happy for either to win it, and if we're being honest what Jo Pavey has achieved probably trumps both of them anyway. And it's nice to see an F1 driver win again after Button was beaten to it by Giggs back in 2009 when Giggs shouldn't have even made the final 10.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Imagine getting SPOTY because of your engineers.
Jimothy Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Imagine getting SPOTY because of your engineers. Imagine being that filled with hate for someone you can't even accept when the British public vote for them to win something. I'm sure Damon Hill (twice), Nigel Mansell (twice), Jackie Stewart and Strling Moss (who was never even Champion) are gutted they won the award because of their engineers too.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 I'm not filled with hate, I genuinely couldn't give a toss about the SPOTY. But I was just shocked as all that Lewis would get it for having the far superior car on the grid as opposed to Rory who has had quite the year on level terms.
Samilktray Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 I dont know why these F1 teams piss away millions in wages to drivers when anyone can race these automobiles and win.
kingfox Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 Jonny obviously got the envelopes mixed up, what a twat.

Well you might not give a toss about SPOTY, but you're clearly filled with hate for Hamilton, that's clear from the F1 thread. He can do nothing right in your eyes, even when he's done something brilliant. As I said earlier, both would be worthy winners, but the public voted Hamilton, so that's how it is. Rory had a great year, but you know what he'll have a lot more fantastic years, and it wouldn't surprise me if he won the slam one year, he'll get his hands on this award soon.

Me not giving him credit is bollocks, I'll admit I dislike him but let's not derail this (I actually thought he should have got it for his first title win). My point is still valid. The public decided and I'm not allowed to critique that?
theessexfox Posted 14 December 2014 Posted 14 December 2014 I would've gone for Rory on the basis of individual achievement but oh well.

Actually it was probably just about right he was 2nd in 2008 seeing as he lost out to Hoy who'd had an outstanding year. The following year when Button lost out to Giggs was a joke though. There's been some strange winners over the years, Giggs being one, Cavendish beating Daren Clarke just because he won a few Tour de France stages in 2011 was odd too. Even in the first year of the award Roger Bannister having completed one of the most memorable achievements in british sport, came 2nd to Chris Chataway. I really don't think it was that clear cut this year though that you could really say it was a shock, or anyone was robbed, both of them were in with a shout. It was always going to be close, and Hamilton edged it.

For 08, it was just how he actually won it which would have edged it for me really, but I could understand why they went for Hoy. I'd agree nobody was robbed, I just think on merit Rory deserved it slightly more.
