Babylon Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 He might have been right about a couple of transfers but how on earth could he know the inner workings of Leicester's transfer budget? Because he has a contact at Leicester, I would have thought that was obvious. If he says we're after x player everyone is happy to admit Percy has proven to be one of the most reliable sources out there. As soon as he says something people don't want to hear, people are looking for reasons not to believe him.
Babylon Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 It says our budget is £6m, and then says a 'probable' signing will cost us £8m. Now I'm no mathematician, but something tells me this article isn't entirely accurate. Maybe it's a typo, maybe it means we have to sell someone like Wood.
SecretPro Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 6 Million? If true then thats a joke. Barely enough for one decent signing, let a lone to save a club from relegation that clearly needs top quality and 5-6 players. Thought these Thai owners had big ideas and big cash?
MooseBreath Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 The last time the owners came out and said they wanted to spend money they got misinterpreted all over the media and criticised by fans for potentially driving up the cost of transfers and wages. Doubt they would bother talking specific numbers with the media again. £6m seems like guesswork. And probably not far off the mark.
Soar Fox Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 He might have been right about a couple of transfers but how on earth could he know the inner workings of Leicester's transfer budget? He also told us in the summer we had only £10 million to spend. Then towards the end of August said we were close to concluding a deal for James McCarthur for over £5 million. That would have put our spending closer to £15/16 million. So he seemed to have contradicted himself a bit.

So he seemed to have contradicted himself a bit. Things change... after all the contract renewals perhaps we had money left over to spend. Perhaps we were in panic mode and having to spend more than we wanted... either way, we still ended up spending pretty much exactly what he said we would, with several of the players he said we were after.

I just don't believe a 'contact' could know the actual transfer budget unless it is one of the Thais. If the opportunity arrives to buy a certain player they will take it, particularly in a situation where we find ourselves. It is finger in the air stuff at best in my opinion.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 Everyone knows this is the case 'The funds will be made available to me if we can identify targets for the right price, which is notoriously difficult in January, who will improve what we already have at the club'
Babylon Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 I just don't believe a 'contact' could know the actual transfer budget unless it is one of the Thais. If the opportunity arrives to buy a certain player they will take it, particularly in a situation where we find ourselves. It is finger in the air stuff at best in my opinion. There could be numerous people at the club who know rough estimates of budget, Whelan, Neville, the DOF, the manager, people sat in on meetings, scouts (they need a rough idea to know what players to look at etc). The actual figure will be flexible, so he's hardly likely to be ever spot on, I'm happy to admit the figure he picked in the summer of £10m was probably a fluke to happen almost exactly. But I would certainly say he'll be in the ball park if it's from his usual source, I wouldn't be sat here expecting £20m to be spent. When you start adding on wages of a couple of players costing say £10m, the figure they actually cost rockets over the course of their contract, so that's still a large amount.

Barely enough for one decent signing, let a lone to save a club from relegation that clearly needs top quality and 5-6 players. Thought these Thai owners had big ideas and big cash? 2-3 mate They do. But after last time they spoke about money every other club wanted ridiculous money from us for players so there just keeping quiet.
Guest MattP Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 Thought these Thai owners had big ideas and big cash? They've never spouted anything of the sort, they make one little remark about wanting to do well and people assume they want to spunk the family fortune on a football club.
Jon the Hat Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 He also told us in the summer we had only £10 million to spend. Legend_in_blue Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 6 million is laughable. We're still at least 5 players short. Average spend of 4 million on each and you're looking at close to 20 million. This won't happen though. I think Robinson has gone for failing to line up targets in readiness for this window. Time will tell.
MHC Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 6 million In the inflated market of January we won't sign anyone for that unless we are trying for Titus Bramble.
RedSoxUK Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 6m is clearly false given our 'on record' bid rejected for over 6 million...
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 Because he said we'd sign Powell and Ulloa, oh and that our budget was £10m in the summer (all of which came true). People can pretend he has no idea, but the bloke is very often right about us. Yes, he is usually pretty accurate. Six million wont get us out of trouble, though, so I hope he is wrong on this occasion
DanTheFox07 Posted 17 December 2014 Posted 17 December 2014 We didn't spend enough in the first window, think it could end up being the same again! we need to spend over 10million to stand a chance of staying in this division, striker, centreback and an attacking mid!
Dan Posted 17 December 2014 Posted 17 December 2014 If Mr Percy is right again about us (which he has been proven to be on numerous past occassions) £6m is not enough to keep us in this division unless there is some serious negotiation going on for some really top class players and I don't just mean could get in the team - top class talent who you could see help us progress up the division over the next two to three years. Total potential spend this season of around £16m... Don't want to be proven right but that is no where near enough to compete in this division, I just hope we have some more Cambiasso's/Ulloa's up our sleeve we don't yet know about. If there's one management team that'll deliver that for us then it's this one. One dodgy transfer window shouldn't go against what were largely good ones and the sacking of Robinson suggests that Pearson/Walsh weren't the problem. Come to think of it... did Robinson really do us any good in terms of signings? Cambiasso is the best coup he made but you got the feeling from what Cambiasso said that Pearson played a very big part in that. Players like Mahrez, Hammond, Wasilewski etc... how much competition did we actually have for buying them? Was Robinson really a deciding factor? I get the feeling we missed out more this summer than we succeeded. I get the hint Robinson was brought in primarily to help clear out the rest of the shite to Bolton that was still lingering around and now we're looking to bring someone in (or just going with Rudkin) to be more competent at bringing players in. I've gone off on one here anyway. Six million is a bit small but like I say, we've got some very shrewd operators at this club and considering he's put something in the same article about Kramaric possibly coming for eight million you can't help but feel he means the six million as a net spend. Don't forget we've got squad registration to deal with here. We may have to sell before buying.
HoustonFox Posted 17 December 2014 Posted 17 December 2014 Maybe the £6M is a deliberate ruse so people don't think we have da big bucks...
CupidStunt Posted 17 December 2014 Posted 17 December 2014 Must be a typo, i just clicked the link, its been fixed. Agent Fee's Tax Budget: £6 million. Pearson wants to sign a striker and a centre-half and intends to strike quickly at the start of the transfer window. His move for Messi will cost a mere 6 Million in income tax alone.

Buzzell Posted 17 December 2014 Posted 17 December 2014 £6m!? What a load of old bollock's that is. (Hopefully)
CupidStunt Posted 17 December 2014 Posted 17 December 2014 Had to be really 7.9m bid for Kramaric blows the budget alone. , think you missed what i did :xmaswink:
justfoxes Posted 17 December 2014 Posted 17 December 2014 Budget 6 million... that cant be right, I cost 5 Million in the January window. Did they Misprint and dropped the zero ?
