lcfcbobby Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 I am generaly the type of person that only looks forward to the next 2-5 games but I have this season come to think about the African cup of nations and how it is fast approaching and that we are going to be loosing Schlupp and Mahrez for a period of time. Now I have never really been I fan of schlupp but I have to be honest he has surprised me and took well to the prem a lot better then what I thought he would. Mahrez I knew would do well but he has caused a few problems by not tracking back on a number of occasions and has given away some silly free kicks when he has tracked back. My only concern is with the upcoming African Cup Of Nations competition coming up should we think about using Knocky and Albrighton a bit more in the upcoming games as they are the likely 2 players to replace Schlupp and Mahrez when they depart for Africa just to get them the game time as I think we have been relying on them too much? Also can it hurt trying it as we are already bottom of the league? even though our performances have been a lot better then results would suggest at the end of the day its results that matter and if Knocky and Albrighton can put more and better balls into the box maybe we could end up scoring more goals?? just wondering what people think to this??? I would like to hear your opinions!!!
Claridge Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 Given most of last seasons players a chance and have been found wanting. Knock heart who was one of the best hasn't,t been. Not sure Pearson isn't,t displaying his arrogance over knocks.
Guest Bilo Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 We may need Tom Lawrence back from Rotherham. He's been class there by all accounts.
lcfcbobby Posted 26 December 2014 Author Posted 26 December 2014 well I think it has showed there's a difference in quality in the prem from the championship. All our players were great in the championship last season and now look at what has happened this season so I don't think Tom Lawrence is the answer! and besides Rotherham are down the bottom of the championship so je is bound to look good compared to the rest of there team!
MooseBreath Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 It's a superb chance for knocky, Albrighton and Lawrence to prove why they're worth a place in the starting 11. The bar is set pretty low too as they've only got Schlupp's performance to better. I expect them all to come out fighting and putting in performances as if their career depends on them.
lcfcbobby Posted 26 December 2014 Author Posted 26 December 2014 but what I would like is for them to get game time before hands so that when it comes to it that there basically not just getting thrown in at the deep end!!! hopefully this is in Pearsons mind aswell and it starts today against spurs!!!
The Blue Moon Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 Shouldn't sign African players if we don't want this problem.

Knock had come on in the last two games. Albrighton has had a fairly regular few minutes. Lawrence is playing regularly. None of them will be coming in stone cold. Do agree though and would expect to see either or both of knocky and Albrighton either starting or getting a good half an hour today.
Webbo Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 It's a bit like saying we should only play our second string players in case they ever need to be brought on as subs. While they are available we should play our strongest side.
undey Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 Concerning after the way both Schlupp and Mahrez played today
Will1981 Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 Shouldn't sign African players if we don't want this problem. Schlupp was German when we signed him and Mahrez was French when we signed him.
nixdas Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 We will have to play Knocky and Vardy on the flanks soon to try and test their partnership on the flanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Danno Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 Is it wrong that I hope the entire continent of africa gets completely obliterated so that Mahrez doesn't go
Benji Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 Opportunity for others but Mahrez has been a standout player recently and I worry for our creativity without him. And for all his lack of natural ability, Schlupp works very hard to get back and support Konchesky which has helped.
The Blue Moon Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 Schlupp was German when we signed him and Mahrez was French when we signed him. Ah right, my bad. Let's just hope Hamer doesn't convert to Islam and join Morocco!
MC Prussian Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 Ah right, my bad. Let's just hope Hamer doesn't convert to Islam and join Morocco! Didn't know Hamer had dual citizenship.
lee7 Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 We're going to miss mahrez's ability to create something out of nothing, he's one of our only players who has the capability of taking on 2 players at once. Schlupps work rate and pace will be sorely missed too.
Guest LCFC_World Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 Knockaert will finally get his chance - but we will miss Mahrez!
Captain... Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 Can anyone confirm when these 2 are off? I'm assuming both made the squad, wasn't sure about Schlupp as he missed out on the world cup and didn't play in all qualifiers.
Aus Fox Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 Is Schluup in the Ghana squad for certain? I believe they have only named a provisional 31 man squad so far, when they name the final 23, he still may miss out.
benpicko Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 If Schlupp's out for a month to sit on their bench I'm going to be well annoyed

Here are the latest news on the respective (provisional) line-ups: http://www.thenational.ae/sport/football/africa-cup-of-nations-squads-begin-to-take-form
MooseBreath Posted 30 December 2014 Posted 30 December 2014 Algeria have a friendly on the 10th Jan, same day as the villa game. Hopefully Mahrez will be able to play for us instead, but I'm not sure. He'll definitely miss Stoke on the 17th and Man Utd on the 31st. If Algeria get past the quarter finals he'll miss Crystal Palace on the 7th. If they get to the final he'll miss arsenal on the 10th. Jeff no doubt similar. Maximum they'll miss is five games.
