Three positives and / or negatives from today's game

I'll start, as an optimist mine are all positive:

1) Heart and resilence shown today

2) Drinky and James combination controlled the second half

3) Performances are still clearly there - imagine how they'll be when we get a bit of confidence going

Posted

Positives:

1) Played brilliantly after a poor start.

2) Showed great spirit, desire and passion.

3) Erm... we get to play in 2 days time?

Negatives:

1) Lost yet again.

2) Further cut adrift at the bottom of the league

3) The cocky cockney wankers got the most undeserved three points they will ever get.

1) We played well and still lost.

2) They had one shot in the second and still scored.

3) Another 3 points spunked up the wall.

Tottenham is in North London and not within the sound of the Bow Bells so therefore, not Cockney.

Negatives:

We lost

We didn't convert enough of our chances, including some relatively easy ones.

We let in avoidable goals

Positives:

???????

?!??!???

It might be Pearson's last game in charge?

We could be 4-0 up in injury time and we'd still find a way to lose.

Today is the day where I hope all the remaining supporters who thought we'd somehow stay up wised up and realized we are simply playing for pride now. Its about regrouping for next season and I'm gutted to be typing this.

1. Better team from about 30th min onwards

2. Created a lot more clear cut chances

3 Didn't wait till last 10min to 'go for it'

1. Conceded from a cross and set piece again

2. really poor from Morgan again for first goal

3. Teams just above us picking up points again

Would like to see us start a game with Sclupp at LB and Knockaert LM

Need a CB, LB and CF badly

1 Getting closer with every game.

2. Great to see our young player improving every game.

3. A joy to watch the commitment from whichever 11 plays.

1 We lost again.

2. Personal mistakes are costing us dearly.

3. Totally out of luck also.

Funny, I could've sworn that we scored today.

I kinda wish we were getting hammered every week , so I could shout at the players, manager etc but it is all either luck or silly mistakes at the moment, so we're not too far away from having a good team and run. 2 or 3 quality players in the window will make the difference (easily said then done!)

Posted

Positive: some if our on the ball work was sublime some great attacking instinct and carved some quality chances with slick one touch moves...

Negatives:... Our finishing was poor so many good moves came nothing because we can't seem to shoot, either we snatch at it or try and pass responsibility to someone else

Positive: our general play was much better we looked to pass it more than in previous games and not too many long balls to Ulloa, but when we did we more often than not found him.

Negatives: we are still too static when we have the ball it's good to see players busting a gut to win the ball back, but we should be equally energetic in helping out our team mates, too often we pass the ball to someone who is exposed and don't work hard enough to get closer to them to give an easy out.

The Fans:

The good: those that stayed behind and clapped the team off, the Union FS lot making a good noise again.

The bad: the impatient ones who get the hump when we play the ball backwards, and get over excited far too easily. Two examples spring to mind we had the ball and I think it was Mahrez could have tried to spring a counter but checked his run instead of playing a risky through ball went back to Hamer via the defence, and fans groaned?!?? This is exactly the kind of play we should encourage, keeping the ball and not playing ridiculously risky through ball. Then there was a moment in the first half Ulloa had the ball and people all got excited and standing up and a buzz went up as though we were going to get a goal, the problem was Ulloa was deep in his own half with his back to goal and going nowhere instead of playing the simple pass tried to turn him and lost the ball.

The Ugly: sarcastic cheering of Konch, there were a few boos for Nugent, leaving in droves, just bizarre from some 'fans'

Posted

I think the groans when playing back might be based on the fact we have often played ourselves into trouble doing that Konchesky and Morgan look like they are dribbling a grenade most times when it happens

You genuinely can't find any positives for arguably our best performance since Man Utd?

I know things are looking bleak, but is it really so hard for fans to sit somewhere between "we're absolute class" and "we're fking shit"?

The last paragraph, the tw@t behind me slags konch off consistently all and every match, then I heard him talking to his mates about how he nearly win on a scratch card, couldn't help myself but had to ask him if that was konch's fault as well!

I don't get it either, some people are so negative they can't appreciate a good performance in defeat, I know the nature of the Spurs goals doesn't help but we played really well and I thoroughly enjoyed the game, same as Man City and Liverpool games, great to see this team that has been built, not bought, competing with the very best and whilst relegation looks a strong possibility we will be better for it next season and continue our progress.

So relegation is progress is it????

Its quite simple for me, as a team we are good going forward and do have some talented players but defensively as a team is costing us big time. So many games where we've been as good as the opposition but we're always capable of conceding any minute..... Its hard to take as I think if we played the last 12 games again, we'd get more points. Such fine lines

So relegation is progress is it????

Progress is year on year improvement and can be measured by a number of factors. These include:

1. League position, we are guaranteed our highest ever league position in over a decade.

2. Financial clout, we will be guaranteed £63m in prize money this year + parachute payments if we get relegated, while the rest of the champ are struggling with FFP.

3. Quality of playing squad, a lot of our players are a few years from their peak, we have made sensible additions and tied the majority to long term contracts, we may lose a few players, but the squad we start next season with will be significantly stronger than the one we started our last Championship season with.

4. Experience, this season has been largely a voyage into the unknown. The only people still at the club from our last season in the top flight are the Birch and the woman that sells programs in the ground. For everyone else from the top to the bottom of this club it has been a massive learning curve and that will contribute to the long term goals of establishing ourselves as a top flight club.

Progress isn't instant our last successful spell in the top flight was preceded by an instant relegation from the Prem. Rome wasn't built in a day, and relegation isn't the end of the world. If you remember getting relegated to league one kick started our revival and getting relegated in 1995 kick started the MON years.

Whatever happens this season, in three years time we could be sitting comfortably mid table in the prem and all this is a distant memory.

Points 1 and 2 are a bit desperate CPF - they're connected to last season, not this season. They can be seen as signs if progress up to May but we've gone backwards since then.

Posted

Negative:

We don't get points for trying hard

I actually enjoyed watching us play which is bad because losing felt worse than our previous losses.

Positives:

Agree with every positiv already posted..

Konchesky didnt **** up a back pass WOO

Not desperate just a fact whatever happens at the end of the season we will be stronger and wiser in every department on and off the pitch. The fact that it was down to last season's squad and backroom staff is irrelevant when it is more or less the same people.

We haven't gone backwards since May, we've progressed to a much harder league with much tougher opposition every week we learn more about this league, our players, and where we need improve and how.

It may take us two months or two years but we are progressing and we as fans should have the patience to stick with this project rather than demand changes and instant success.

The job of the management is to setup his side to both limit the opposition chances, as well as ensure his side create enough to win the game.

Pearson did both the above yesterday. Individual errors again cost us, that has nothing to do with the management.

competing with the very best and whilst relegation looks a strong possibility we will be better for it next season and continue our progress.

But we are not competing. If we were competing we would not be winless for 3 months.

I don't understand this belief/myth that we will automatically be better for it next season. How will a season of so many losses and the (probable) loss of the few decent Premier League players we have (I'm thinking Mahrez and possibly Ulloa) make us better? If we get relegated there is no guarantee we will get promoted right away and even if we do there is no guarantee that we will be in a better position then than we are now.

Progress would be staying in the Premier League and building on that foundation.

The management is at least somewhat responsible for putting together a squad which is so obviously deficient in every area for the level of football there are playing in. The management is also responsible to some extent for continuing to pick players (Morgan in this case) when so they are so obviously out of form.

Because the biggest thing we lack is experience and our biggest problem is naivety.

I also disagree that we aren't competing, we haven't been beaten by more than 2 goals, we haven't been dominated by anyone and given a good hiding, we have held our own against the best in this league.

Staying up this season is no guarantee of anything look at QPR, stayed up by the skin of their teeth then got trounced the following season.

Hull and Palace stayed up last season both in the relegation zone this season.
