Specialist wicket keepers are few are far between and most are expected to offer something with the bat. Don;t follow the county scene enough now but rate Buttler as a better keeper than Bairstow of course it doesn't help with only 2 days between test matches.

Superb start this, especially post lunch. Someone clearly slipped Compton some speed in his lunchtime bite as he's just swiped the spinner back over his head for a straight six!

Great start.

Would love to be in Cape Town for this, lunchtime perambulation as well.

This is amazing to watch.

Happy to see Bairstow just plodding along, currently on 84, very solid.

I think you've got to let Stokes pass 200 & let JB get his ton, then declare.

Will we declare when Stokes gets to 200?

No real reason to...we've got plenty of time. May as well let them get as many as they can throughout today and then get bowling them out twice in the final three days as the pitch crumbles.

This partnership approaching gargantuan proportions now.

Sixth-wicket record is 365, by the way.

What's Lara's record I saw someone refer to?

All time? 400, so quite a way to go on that.

Absolutely absurd innings from Stokes, well over a run a ball and moving towards 250! What a partnership between Stokes and Barston this is.

I don't want us to declare while these 2 are still in. Way too much entertainment will be lost if we do.

Keep them batting as long as possible or at least until between tea and close today. If the Saffers can bat twice for three days and change then they deserve to draw this match.
