Jordan Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Fully expected it, never seen a pitch like it. As purple ronnie said earlier he could probably make a ton on it. I was actually surprised how many chances we created. Fair play to the lad, he's got his ton against a disinterested knackered attack on a road but I don't think our dressing room will be too upset with that given he was probably about to be dropped for Duminy or Miller. P.S Most great batsman are short, it makes length much easier to pick up. That's something I've never known (only just realized Bavuma is probably taller than Tendulkar), but the way you put it helps make more sense.
Guest MattP Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Bradman, Tendulkar and Gasvasker were all under 5 ft 7. In fact I can't think of a genuine great batsman over 6 ft.
Guest MattP Posted 5 January 2016 Posted 5 January 2016 Kallis is a great shout, could probably add Matthew Hayden as well.
fuchsntf Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Issue over dropped catches. Willey had his normal sarcasism, and panels couldnt leave it out, but imo there wasnt one real easy or dolley missed. They would of all been classed has great catches if held. Exception maybe Joe roots miss, against de.Villiers, bad positioning maybe..but not a obvious slip catch. This will run out to a miserable draw, but had from both sides have its moments. Stokes, Bairstow, Amla, Bevuuma. And not to be underestimated Finns performance. Stokes the star, but will he get MOM, before a pc descision for Bevuma.
Guest MattP Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Have we ever put a more careless, carefree and thoughtless day of batting together as this so far?
Wycombe Fox Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Bloody hell - we'll do well to avoid defeat now. 116-6 with a lead of only 118 runs and plenty of time left for SA to polish-off the tail-end and score the runs required.
Wycombe Fox Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Paddy Power has SA 9/4, England 40/1 and 4/11 the draw. Seems generous on SA at 9/4 the way we're throwing this away
ealingfox Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Have to be looking at ourselves here, can't blame the pitch. Scores of dropped catches the past few days and awful batting today. Should never have been any danger of losing this at any point after our 1st innings.

jaqo88 Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Have we ever put a more careless, carefree and thoughtless day of batting together as this so far? Typical England, seems to happen far too many times
ealingfox Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Also unless there's something im not getting about it Nick Compton's Twitter handle being @thecompdog is one of the worst things in sport.
Wycombe Fox Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Anybody think a small wager on SA @ 9/2 with approx 3 hours of cricket left is worth a punt? Edit - now 6/1 13/2
Guest MattP Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Typical England, seems to happen far too many times It was almost like they decided it's a draw let's play some shots, you can't let your guard down ever in Test Cricket, Bayliss should do his nut tonight. It's almost the exact same thing Pakistan did when they nearly lost to us a couple of months back, thought a draw was in the back so started trying to slog Rashid for six and ended up needed to save the match. Anybody think a small wager on SA @ 9/2 with approx 3 hours of cricket left is worth a punt? Edit - now 6/1 13/2 Hopefully we've realised the situation and started to concentrate now. I'd still want 10/1 I think.
Wycombe Fox Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Hopefully we've realised the situation and started to concentrate now. I'd still want 10/1 I think. I went for £2.50 SA @ 13/2 and £2.50 England @ 40/1 just to make my afternoon a bit more interesting. Edit - and now they've just gone 10/1
Corky Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Have we ever put a more careless, carefree and thoughtless day of batting together as this so far? We dropped so many catches that cost probably over 200 runs. We should escape with a draw but we have plenty to work on after the last three days.
katieakita Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 No win situation for England, SA set out not to lose this game, chasing a win they cannot keep up the over rate!! one up with 2 to play
ealingfox Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Already seeing the headlines saying we were 'rescued' by the bad light - bit of an exaggeration really. While we had only a tiny chance of winning the game, we were 160 ahead with 4 wickets in hand, two settled batsmen at the crease and about 30 overs left to play in the game. I'd say the Saffers had only a marginally greater chance of winning the game from there, with a draw having been extremely likely. Now hearing Amla's packed in his captaincy...
Guest MattP Posted 6 January 2016 Posted 6 January 2016 Strange one Amla, ABV is a far better captain as well, not great for us. Amla must leave with the worst record of any South African captain in history?
