What was Pearson thinking?

Recommended Posts

Kramaric must be disapointed after today.

The team were shit. The fans were shit and his debut record destroyed.

On a more serious note - I feel maybe some people are not taking todays game seriously enough - this could be one of the biggest missed 3 points in our whole campaign.

That's an understatement.. A win today would have been immense!.. Think we'll look back and say.. It was the day we looked like an already relegated side!

Apparently Konchesky was Matt Elliotts MoM today. I on the other hand thought he was shit. Thoughts?

I had my say in the Konchesky thread. wouldn't bother visiting - still appears to be one or two delusional nutjobs about who think he can play football.

Starting with both nugent and vardy was the worst decision Nigel could of made for this game!

Vardy is not a flick on player or holding the ball up type - yet in the first half you have konch and morgan hoofing to vardy and trying to the flick the ball on - that's just criminal in my opinion

Stoke had a new CB and a makeshift CB - this was perfect opportunity to rough them up and get physical with Ulloa but we gave the easiest game for those two CB's as vardy and nugent are not those type of players

No threat nothing - just poor tactics and King and Drinky were v poor passing was awful and looked poor up against Nzoni and Whelan

No tempo to our game either - massive 3 points missed and 50% Nigels fault

Agree with the OP on everything barring number five, which I think is a bit cliche and hard to actually measure. I'm amazed we actually managed to play worse in the second half though after that awful first half.

He's had an absolute mare today.

1) Not starting Ulloa, the man who has triple the amount of goals of Nugent/Vardy put together.

2) Starting Vardy. Has any player ever done any less as a sub to warrant a start?

3) Waited too long for subs. He could have changed it earlier when we were crying out for it. As it was he waited until we were behind but we were never going to break Stoke down after that.

4) Lawrence over Albrighton? 99 out of 100 fans surely think that was incredibly stupid?

5) Complete failure to rally us at half time. Second half was somehow even worse than the first.

Pearson in, but has to do better than that.

I'm a Pearson fan, but it's rare, in the PL, that you think 'we might have been better off in this game if we simply didn't have a manager and had a statistician picking our side'.

There have been too many games this season in which pretty much anyone could have made more sensible selection / in-game decisions than our manager. We have to give ourselves the best possible chance of staying up, and we could do without a manager intermittently doing things which effectively pull the rug from beneath us. Like, for example, playing Konchesky till the end of time, dropping your top scorer, playing a strike force which has scored two goals from open play all season, and leaving out one of your best performers from a week earlier.

People have pointed out the logic behind these quite brave managerial decisions. But they backfired, they didn't work - again. We've heard a lot about fine margins this season, but I can't help but feel that the fine margins aren't between wins and losses, but rather between sensible managerial decisions at crucial moments, and decisions which are remarkably counter-productive.

Pearson, above anything else, is the one who needs to get a lot better at this level. I'm up for giving him a chance, but we have to acknowledge that he's not done a great job up to now.

Posted

There were no fine margins today. That was a shocking display from us.

I respect people who try to think out of the box, but I agree with the last post, what on earth did he think Lawrence was going to do? He's not shown anything to me yet that he'll be any good for us this season. It struck me as being a complete and utter hit and hope team selection which backfired immensely.

I get the feeling he's very much a 'the lads been great in training' sort of manager, when sometimes you have to pick the person with the most talent or ability. Loyalty could be a downfall.

Every week on here its "This player is crap, that player is crap!

Has anyone ever thought, that it's all because our manager is crap?

What a coincidence you've raised your head after a loss! Wummy Ken back on the troll

I'm afraid Vardy looks devoid of confidence at the moment. Compared to the Vardy of last season, he's miles off that player who chased everything down, finished cooly and worked well with Nugent.

I've just watched MOTD Burnley v Palace and saw Dwight Gayle bury two chances. He's a similar player to Vardy (both small, quick, play off the shoulder of the last defender). The difference is in confidence. Gayle now has ten Prem goals for the season. How many has Vardy got?

These things matter immensely in the final shake up.

If played, Vardy must start scoring goals.

Gayle also has one PL season already under his belt and can build on that.

I'd start comparing the two in a year from now.

Agreed. And I know we are going over old ground here, but why oh why did we not strengthen in the Summer? That was a Championship starting line up today.

We missed Jaymo's industry big time, and the ability to win ANY tackle.

Schluup was back to his usual shocking self, and how many sitters does Nugent need to miss (last week) before the penny drops that we need to score goals to stay up. He has proven himself NOT to be a goalscorer. And was woeful all round again today and I don't understand why he would continue to be starter. I could go on, but clanger after clanger have made by Nige Im sorry to say.

No me duck - you are going over old ground

If we continue like this and Vardy continues like this, no comparison will be made. We won't be a Premiership club.

Let's hope wba still want to pay 5m for him!!!... Start rebuilding for next year's championship campaign.

This defeat feels like all my lottery numbers came up but stupidly I changed 2 numbers beforehand. Ps. It was also a rollover week!

You mean "continue like this" as in seven points in every four matches? Granted, I do know what's coming up next in the fixture list, but still...

A year from now, Vardy might still be a Premier League forward. Ever thought of that? lol

And we might still be a Premier League club.

It's all speculation, basically.

You will continue to defend Pearson and the team even if we go down and fair enough. But looking at the odds, the squad and the fixture list, it's not looking clever. Of course it can change and might do. But the probability is that we are looking fragile. And I tend to go with probabilities. I think yesterday's loss was a big one.

Good old Col, sitting on the fence again.

Just anything in order to avoid getting called out.

Unless it's mathematically impossible to get to 17th, your argumentation is turning circles in a vacuum.

Of course I'm sat on the fence. There IS still time to turn it round. I won't say we are down until we are?

But its probable, given everything, that we will go down.

The Stoke defence must have been shitting themselves.....with laughter.

Nuge has proved he's not good enough for this league a couple of decent goals but some awful howlers of sitters he's missed over this term is just awful, leaving ulloa on the bench and I know some people will say it's to early but we payed nearly £10m pound for this lad and we kept him on the bench too Kramaric should have been given the nod over Vardy or Nugent ,totally agree Allbrighton should have started too he was superb against villa!

Hamer needs to practice his kicking and distribution but it does seem big Nige is keeping faith with his championship winning side heard some fans yesterday questioned if PEARSON actually knew what his best starting 11 were?

Schlupp was one our better players today, so you can't say he shouldn't have come in. Knockaert and Albrighton played well last week so you have to decide which one won't play. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Could not disagree more. He was given the ball and ran with it a few times in the first half, and produced absolutely nothing. Several embarrassingly poor touches, kicking it out of play as a result twice when a 2 yard pass or a cross was required. He played with no intensity whatsoever in terms of doing defensive duties either.

After three decent performances, this was a return to the clueless Jeff we saw earlier in the season. A championship player at best who should not be anywhere near starting in the PL in my opinion. All to often a passenger in games.

All that said he was far from alone in not performing today.

He wasn't at his best but he caused more problems for the defence than anyone else and picked out Knockeart for the best chance of the match.

Bearing in mind he was coming back from injury I thought he did well in the first half, but he was clearly fvcked second half and probably shouldn't have started.

If we created any clear-cut chances in the entire match, I have forgotten them

I think there was a tip over the bar and that's about it
