Raj Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 The Stoke defence must have been shitting themselves.....with laughter.its amazing really? If ulloa had a goal record of nugent or vardy people would be calling for his head. Ulloa is our top goalscorer by a mile BUT he still gets stick from some!!!!
Babylon Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 1 & 2) Pace - fairly obvious, shouldn't even need explaining. 3) Player was stripped off and waiting to come on. 4) I would have brought him on for Knockaert. 5) little to do with needing to be roused and more to do with having little at his disposal to sort the main problem of central midfield. Called it before the game about those two being powder puff and they were.
cuddly ken Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Every week on here its "This player is crap, that player is crap! Has anyone ever thought, that it's all because our manager is crap?
johnny the fox Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Think Nigel used up a lot of the good will and faith of the fans today with that performance all around. hope 'Im wrong but think it could be the turning point, hope and expectations were raised in recent weeks and then this feeble effort was delivered..
Grewks Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Every week on here its "This player is crap, that player is crap! Has anyone ever thought, that it's all because our manager is crap? Hmmm..... Sir Alex Ferguson, widely regarded as the greatest manager ever, couldn't turn guff into premier league quality.
langtonfox Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Took too long to make changes when we could see it wasn't working
pazzerfox Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 He's had an absolute mare today. 1) Not starting Ulloa, the man who has triple the amount of goals of Nugent/Vardy put together. 2) Starting Vardy. Has any player ever done any less as a sub to warrant a start? 3) Waited too long for subs. He could have changed it earlier when we were crying out for it. As it was he waited until we were behind but we were never going to break Stoke down after that. 4) Lawrence over Albrighton? 99 out of 100 fans surely think that was incredibly stupid? 5) Complete failure to rally us at half time. Second half was somehow even worse than the first. Pearson in, but has to do better than that. 1. He went for a counter-attacking style of play today, so Nugent and Vardy were the obvious chioce. 2. See above 3. Kramaric was stripped ready to come on before we scored. 4. I tend to agree with you but I think we needed someone to create something out of nothing. 5. Can we not give Stoke a bit of credit for managing the game better? They are an established Premier league side with an experienced manager and it showed today.
SecretPro Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Why do people keep saying 'he went for pace and counter attack today that's why he started Nugent and Vardy'. A. Nugent has no pace B. Vardy has pace, all well and good but as a striker can he score goals? No. So why bother going for pace because without end product it means absolutely **** all. 1. Always play your top goalscorer. 2. If you are going to lump the ball upfield for 90 minutes don't play two strikers that have no idea how to play in the air. The end.
Matt Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Every week on here its "This player is crap, that player is crap! Has anyone ever thought, that it's all because our manager is crap? Nope, consistantly Nugent for me. I would say I hope he'll prove me wrong sooner or later, but all hope is gone, i've seen enough.

Because you need pace when counter attacking, hence why he went for our quicker players maybe? A. Nugent is quicker than Ulloa B. Can he score goals...Yes. Has he scored goals in the Premiership...no not many. He would still be a better option than Ulloa playing this way. 1. You have a point (maybe Ulloa had a slight knock). 2. I don't think Nugent is that bad in the air.
Robin JD Popley Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 His three biggest mistakes today. 1. Leaving Albrighton out of the starting eleven / not bringing him on. 2. Starting Nuge and Vardy up front. 3. Being too loyal to Morgan et al. The sooner we get a leader at the back in, the better. Absolutely crap from start to finish!
MooseBreath Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 I don't think you can succeed at utilising pace just by playing one or two players who are quick. It's more of a system than that, you need to be able to contain pressure and then have the right players who are able to spring out from the back and eventually someone who can thread a killer throughball. Can't remember any half decent attempts at a counter attack today and certainly no killer throughballs. It was mostly just the back for hoofing it, the strikers not winning the headers, the midfield being passed around and repeat. If you're going to try and be utilise a system then you need the right players. Otherwise, play your best players. Lawrence was a strange one. Can't be too hard on the lad because he's young and he's having about the same level of impact as Harry Kane had, and Kane is doing OK now. But it was an environment surely more suited to the more experienced and on form Albrighton and for me he should have replaced knocky rather than Schlupp. The former was played completely out of the game for the whole 90, Schlupp at least did show a fleeting glimpse of being able to create something.
J.Lisemore Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Arguably our best player in the Villa game didn't even get on the pitch today, and to make matters worse, Lawrence who had a terrible game v Villa, gets on ahead of him. Baffling.
65RosesFox Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Our bench was worth considerably more than our starting XI and our two strikers who started have scored less combined, than half the goals one of the strikers on the bench has scored.
Phube Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 One thing everyone arguing over whether we went for pace or counter attacking for their 'big, slow defender's. But the missed point is Stoke have conceded from more set pieces than any team this season, surely that means we should have played our best set piece/crossovers (Albrighton) and best headers (Ulloa) of the ball?
lgfualol Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 3. Being too loyal to Morgan et al. The sooner we get a leader at the back in, the better. Got to agree. Does he even talk to team.
Strokes Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Some strange decisions today, that at face value look hard to defend. It was working pretty well in the first but once they doubled up on schlupp we offered nothing. If we are to get out of this hole we need to do much better.
phildw Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Should have got rid before January. Look at the effect on Crystal Palace who are bouncing with their new manager and I'm sure Pulis will have the same affect at Albion.
Katy Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 I'm baffled about the Allbrighton omission. Nige had every opportunity to bring him on but didn't, only he knows why I guess. We looked very lethargic today. Vardy & Nugent just doesn't work. Drinky is a honey but him and King don't work together (I know we didn't have a lot of choice there) doesn't make either a terrible player all of a sudden but they don't suit each other, like, say Drinky & James do. We need a bit of a rethink for Man U, hopefully Hammond will be fit for that and Allbrighton comes back in.
harpendenfox Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 The last three weeks or so had given me hope but today was so utterly deflating, perhaps the worst feeling of the season to date. Of course we could still stay up, but I think we've all had the wind totally blown out of our sails today. Quite simply there were no positives. And point made about not talking to radio Leicester. Feels a bit lame now
Raj Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 The whole atmosphere seemed lethargic. The crowd and players-just seemed like no one could be arsed!
SecretPro Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Kramaric must be disapointed after today. The team were shit. The fans were shit and his debut record destroyed. On a more serious note - I feel maybe some people are not taking todays game seriously enough - this could be one of the biggest missed 3 points in our whole campaign.
pazzerfox Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 No. Watch Bojan's performances, then watch Nugent's. They both play in the same position, yet the level of performance is vastly different. Bojan drifts into spaces, nugent doesn't. Bojan moves with the ball, Nugent doesn't. Bojan anticipates, nugent doesn't. Bojan looks a thread, nugent doesn't. This is because Bojan is a better player than Nugent...simple.
SecretPro Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 This is because Bojan is a better player than Nugent...simple. Only by 14 country miles.
