AKCJ Posted 19 February 2015 Posted 19 February 2015 526 murders in the UK last year. 461 murders by US law enforcers last year. What a ****ed up country America is. Georgia has a similar amount of murders with a population around a 14th of the UK. It's what happens when you give everyone a gun.

I'd say it's more to do with gun and gang culture than giving everyone a gun. Gun ownership in Switzerland is huge (higher than US in percentage) and they have a very low murder rate.

More to do with a high percentage of the population who are pathologically paranoid, of course that also stems (in part) from how afraid the American public are of the gangs and crime.

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 19 February 2015 Posted 19 February 2015 Knife wounds are more likely to kill than gun wounds, and the kitchen drawer is an easy place to find one. A few years ago I was given the task of collating various aspects of weapon related injuries for the Thames Valley Police. The results showed that death from knife wounds, was more than triple those of gunshots.( I am talking about the actual wounds sustained. ) I saw e huge collection of knives which had caused fatalities, which ranged from penknives through to over one foot long weapons, many of which were handmade, and saw photographs of the injuries related to many of them. Pretty horrible stuff!

Pretty horrible stuff! Were you measuring like-for-like assaults, though? I'm guessing here, but I suspect knife attacks are more likely to result in multiple wounds. Is that true in your experience?

Gun ownership in Switzerland is huge (higher than US in percentage) and they have a very low murder rate. The gun and gang culture doesn't exist (like it does) without their arse about face laws though. But it really is 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. America is brain washed into thinking that a gun is a defensive tool when it's really not.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 19 February 2015 Posted 19 February 2015 Were you measuring like-for-like assaults, though? I'm guessing here, but I suspect knife attacks are more likely to result in multiple wounds. Is that true in your experience? You are correct that multiple stabbings are more common than multiple gunshots. The statistics, which included records from hospitals, as well as police records, was that one knife wound was generally more deadly than one bullet. Shotguns as such, were as you can imagine, more deadly than knives, when used close to the victim. The worst knife I saw was a home made affair, that had a serrated blade, and was in the shape of a semi circle, with a short handle This was used first on the victims stomach, and then to hack her head off. This was done by her husband, a wealthy businessman. Her partially burnt body was found, but was difficult to identify. The victims head was found in a freezer, at their cottage, in West Wycombe.
