SystonFox Posted 19 February 2015 Posted 19 February 2015 You are correct that multiple stabbings are more common than multiple gunshots. The statistics, which included records from hospitals, as well as police records, was that one knife wound was generally more deadly than one bullet. Shotguns as such, were as you can imagine, more deadly than knives, when used close to the victim. The worst knife I saw was a home made affair, that had a serrated blade, and was in the shape of a semi circle, with a short handle This was used first on the victims stomach, and then to hack her head off. This was done by her husband, a wealthy businessman. Her partially burnt body was found, but was difficult to identify. The victims head was found in a freezer, at their cottage, in West Wycombe. Nice
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 19 February 2015 Posted 19 February 2015 The article says "killed at the hands of" - not necessarily murder. Could be road accidents adding to that tally (in fact I'd wager it accounts for a significant portion), depends how you classify that, personally I wouldn't as murder. Still not a nice figure by any means but not quite as bleak as made out.

Guest MattP Posted 19 February 2015 Posted 19 February 2015 We still have one of the lowest murder rates in the world. What are we classing as low?
purpleronnie Posted 19 February 2015 Posted 19 February 2015 What are we classing as low? I didn't say low, I said one of the lowest.
Guest MattP Posted 19 February 2015 Posted 19 February 2015 I didn't say low, I said one of the lowest. That was be obvious though wouldn't it being we aren't in Asia Africa or South America. How do we fair in comparison to the rest of Western Europe?
The Blur Posted 19 February 2015 Posted 19 February 2015 I thought this topic was going to be about Lucy Beale. Oh the shame!

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 19 February 2015 Posted 19 February 2015 Honduras has that gaff which has a ridiculous murder rate, doesn't it? Basically run by two gangs.

Cheers. Pretty much what I expected, exceptional in comparison to the World but not great in comparison to Western Europe.

Merging Cultures Posted 20 February 2015 Posted 20 February 2015 Bunch of wimps. You don't know you're alive until you've had your house shot at (Baltimore)! Or had to flee from a potential coup (Lesotho)! People will always murder others. I'm pleased the UK has such a low rate. One of the reasons I'll return one day!
DB11 Posted 20 February 2015 Posted 20 February 2015 526 murders in the UK last year. 461 murders by US law enforcers last year. What a ****ed up country America is. Georgia has a similar amount of murders with a population around a 14th of the UK. It's what happens when you give everyone a gun. Actual murders or just deaths? Even if a killing is ruled unlawful it does not necessarily mean it is murder. And America has a much larger population
Merging Cultures Posted 20 February 2015 Posted 20 February 2015 Actual murders or just deaths? Even if a killing is ruled unlawful it does not necessarily mean it is murder. And America has a much larger population Still the number of deaths/murders by police is ridiculous. Although, I thought it wasn't the best comparison personally. I'd rather have gone with: Baltimore, population 622,104, murders 235 (2013). UK, population 64.1 million, murders 558 (2013). That is just one city, that doesn't even have the highest homicide rate in the US!
I am Rod Hull Posted 20 February 2015 Posted 20 February 2015 Does anyone have the stats on the ethnicity of the killed and killers? I`d like to take a stab in the dark (pun intended), but I wont.
Spiritwalker Posted 21 February 2015 Posted 21 February 2015 Not surprised by this, in our area we get Anglia news which covers Luton. Every week there seems to be a murder in Luton.

bovril Posted 21 February 2015 Posted 21 February 2015 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_traffic-related_death_rate Traffic-related death rate, just for comparison. We do pretty well there. I'm amazed Italy is so far down the list.
GaelicFox Posted 4 March 2015 Posted 4 March 2015 That case in Bristol just goes to show how tragic alleged murder in families is Grim grim case
