Optimism - easiest run-in

I think that if we don't stay up it will be a bloody disgrace.

Seems to me that a lot of people who matter seem to be happy to settle for second best.

Lack of ambition and belief for a Club of this size.

Must be prepared to compete on and off the field with other top Clubs if you want to be one of them.

West Brom had 18 points with 11 games to go 10 years ago when they did the great escape and Pearson was the assistant manager then.

It's not impossible but a very big task.

I'd like to think we will stay up but I don't think we will.

The Premier League was less hostile back then though when you were in a seemingly hopeless position with only 11 games to go by early spring!

Agreed in full! The fact that our record transfer signing has remained at below £10 million in this day and age - for a club of our size and stature, with our tradition - says it all. I don't for one minute forget about the administration in 2002 as well as remembering what Nige has done for us in the more recent past though to keep things on an even keel. However as much as I admire his past feats, then maybe the man who took us up from League One and then on the brink of the Prem. the following season in his majestic first spell (and who the steadied the ship again in his second spell with us after glam appointments Sousa and Sven arguably failed then finally took us up after two and a half seasons of under achieving in the Championship), wasn't truly equipped to mount a sustainable and worthy season in the promised land after a decade away from it. Easy to say now perhaps but maybe Pulis was the man we should have recruited last December!

7 games at home.

A game in hand over everyone else

We play most of our relegation rivals

Anyone who thinks it's over already is deluded. Somehow it is still possible given our dreadful results BUT if we lose most of these games it will be like losing 6 points on our rivals. We cannot give anyone else an edge.

That about sums it up for me. We aren't out of this yet. It'll take a dramatic change in fortunes but we aren't relegated just yet.

Optimism/pessimism.. how do i feel?

well i got up this morning, mrs OZ asked, "who is it tonight...and seriously, are we relegated or what?",

cue my response...

"HUll... at home, well yes.... but no.....not technically....and, well, weve been good, just unlucky.... but the table doesnt lie, and if we cant beat those shitty teams we deserve to be where we are and, what chance have we got... but,........ weve got a great run home, and who knows... so, are we relegated?.... NOT FVCKING YET DAMMIT!!!!"

I agree we seem to struggle against these teams, and they have something to play for too which may give them an extra incentive to perform well against us. However, it means that our fate is in our own hands. If and I know it is a big IF, we can win say 5/6 of these games we should be there or thereabouts and drop other teams into the relegation battle. Obviously it is going to take something special for this to happen, and past performances may not yield any positivity or hope for the ones coming up. BUT let's envisage the next 11 games as knockout games. We have to win to stay in the competition. Usually players perform that extra bit when times get desperate. Let's hope we get that extra 5% that may see us over the line

We have some good fixures coming up against sides whose seasons have pretty much finished: Swansea, West Ham, Newcastle, West Brom, maybe Southampton.

Chelsea may have won the league by the time we play them so hopefully we get a fair number of points from these games. Burnley and Sunderland away will be tricky but draws may be enough for us there. Think we will be safe before our last game!

Palace 0-1

Stoke 0-1

West Brom 0-1

Burnley 2-2

Sunderland 0-0

In fairness, at least two of those teams will be nowhere near the bottom three when it's all over.

I agree, subconsciously these teams may drop off because when you're not fighting for anything naturally you don't perform to the same level. It is good for us in that extent, but obviously wins against our relegation rivals would be so much beneficial. but we can't pick the games we win anyway.

Doesn't matter how easy the run in is if you don't even look like scoring at home to Hull.
