cityfanlee23 Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 In my opinion, this formation would suit our team and their individual abilities, also making us more potent in attack, and still as terrible at the back probably, this isn't a time to sit back, Our 2 natural goal threats are both being played completely against their strengths, they are both poachers who currently are ending up dropping back into midfield even when we have possession, they are never in the box, and our wingers are pumping balls into nobody, or constantly cutting in and playing diagonal balls that are so easy to defend. We need to get our strikers in the box again. The amount of times I see us cross into nobody is embarrasing. http://lineupbuilder.com/?sk=6f3c - ATTACKING http://lineupbuilder.com/?sk=6f3d - DEFENDING Attacking - Kramaric - Get into the box Ulloa - Get into the box Mahrez - On the left hand side(stronger foot), Get the ball into the box behind the defence and let the strikers attack it - Mix it up with cutting in. Albrighton - Best crosser we have, not slow, get the ball forward and into the box Cambiasso - of the 2 central midfielders, only get forward if a good counter is on, if not try to stay back and defend when neccesary Central midfielder 2 - Prefer Drinkwater for this role as I think he is naturally more attacking than James, Box to Box Konch/Jeff - Only attack when needed, move forward with attacks to provide option to pass back to keep posession if needed DeLaet - Only attack when needed, move forward with attacks to provide option to pass back to keep posession if needed CB - Normal role Hamer - Have a fag Defending - Kramaric - Of the 2 strikers Kramaric to sit back the furthest as he's quicker than ulloa - Collect the ball if needed and link up the attack Ulloa - Slower of the strikers, Sit on the last man and counter getting into the box Mahrez - Drop back and help defend Albrighton- Drop back and help defend Cambiasso - Drop back and help defend Drinkwater - Drop back and help defend Konch/Jeff - Defend De Laet - Defend CB - Defend Hamer - Save stuff On the attack we always have atleast 5 going forward, if we are on a good counter or are putting alot of pressure on lesser opponents we also have Cambiasso, and the full backs potentially. On the defensive we drop back and defend but keep a striker forward (preferably 2) and make sure the slowest of the 2 is on the last man so he can make sure he can get into the box. Back to basics. Thoughts?

cityfanlee23 Posted 23 March 2015 Author Posted 23 March 2015 Bit complicated Hahaha I know mate tried to embed the coding but it was not enjoying it....
Babylon Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 My biggest problem, you've just about removed all of our pace from the side on the wings and up top. Our game was all about pace last year and when we've played well this year it has been too. So I'd say it's not back to basics as far as how we used to play, it's a new style entirely again.

But the starting 11 is similar to that of all season? instead Jeff is replaced by albrighton (who's quite quick) and a much better player in every department apart from physically.. Jeff could easily play left back and offer the overlap but nobody trusts him there.. De laet still plays... and that's not to say that Vardy or nugent couldn't replace ulloa and kramaric.. But ulloa is our best goalscorer, and he needs balls into the box. Agree with what you're saying about last season.. but it hasn't worked this year, Just think with our 2 "Goalscorers" being played against their strengths, it's time we "Give ourselves the best opportunity"
GingerrrFox Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 Could you not have just said, "what do you think to playing 4-4-2 and get the ball whipped in the box to Ulloa and Kramaric?"
Tom's Pasta Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 We're not going down because we haven't found the perfect formation, we're going down because we haven't played well enough regardless of what formation we play.
cityfanlee23 Posted 23 March 2015 Author Posted 23 March 2015 Could you not have just said, "what do you think to playing 4-4-2 and get the ball whipped in the box to Ulloa and Kramaric?" Because the 4-2-2-2 and 4-4-2 are different formations, we've tried the latter.

Think we are going down because we've tried about 10 different formations, and the one's we have stuck with for the longest periods don't even suit the players we have for them.. Formation has been a major issue this season.. play to everyone's strengths, we haven't in the slightest...

We'll still make defensive errors and still miss opportunities just like we have done all season, not because of the formation but because the players are below Premier League standard.

Agreed, but you're playing bad AND playing against the strengths of your team... you'll never be anywhere but bottom
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 Not buying into this 'playing to your teams strength' bull. Each player has different strengths, but on the whole most of our players suit a fast counter attacking style of play. Ulloa and Albrighton don't necessarily fit that mould, but why should we change our style to fit them in. It's no surprise that our best performances this season have involved Nuge and Vardy playing together, with pace in the wide (or wing back) areas. I don't think we would create nearly as many chances by changing our approach just to chucking crosses into the box. Everyone is such a football manager expert on here.

Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 You clearly think you are aswell... It's not working? What would you do? Not at all, I'm pointing out facts as to the style of play we have adopted when we have picked up the most points and offered our best performances. Its not working because we don't have the quality to win tight games. It's easy to create chances against the open teams because they attack too. It's the games against the teams who are set out to frustrate us which we haven't done well enough against. We need a player who is going to create that 1 good chance, or a dangerous set piece or something like that to win tight games. Look at West Brom under Pulis. They are grinding wins against the crap sides either by a player with that extra quality scoring a good goal or by set piece efficiency. We lack this which is why it's probably bad for us that we are up against the bottom sides at home in our last 10 games because we don't have the quality to break them down. Formations are only a tiny part in the game, it's still 11 v 11 no matter how you slice it and our 11 haven't been good enough at this level enough of the time. We have tried plenty of different ways to win, and none have been effective.
kingfox Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 Why not send these plans in your job application when Pearson gets sacked. You obviously think you can do a better job.

yorkie1999 Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 I'd like to know who these lesser opponents actually are.
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 So two centre-forwards, two box to box midfielders and two wide players with a back four? What do you call that Lee? An inverted 2-4-4? 4-4-2? REVOLUTIONARY!

cityfanlee23 Posted 23 March 2015 Author Posted 23 March 2015 My line-up, for what it's worth.. Looks potentially strong mate, Nugent links it up better than Kramaric, providing kram stays forward he could have half a chance!! He's got no chance playing how he's being forced too at present, much be wishing he'd not bothered to come here
desertfox2 Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 Same formation as we played against spurs. Upson out, Was in. Give kramaric a chance up top with vardy and Nugent.
Gio Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 My line-up, for what it's worth.. Exactly the Line up I've been wanting as well
ozvaldo Posted 23 March 2015 Posted 23 March 2015 Could you not have just said, "what do you think to playing 4-4-2 and get the ball whipped in the box to Ulloa and Kramaric?" probably, but i'm the cvnt.
