Hollism Posted 25 March 2015 Posted 25 March 2015 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32040304 Is it worth it?
Crinklyfox Posted 25 March 2015 Posted 25 March 2015 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32040304 Is it worth it? Yes it is. If you don't ask you don't get. Hopefully FIFA will be rid of Blatter, with him in place our chances of success are remote. I remember the 1966 World Cup, the country was gripped by it and I'd love to see the same happen again. We have one of the top leagues in the world, a country full of passionate supporters and the facilities already in place. Go for it.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 25 March 2015 Posted 25 March 2015 It's all very well blaming the last bid failing on corruption and FIFA but when our last bid included Milton Keynes and The City Ground the reasons for it not being chosen do not solely stop at a few back-handers...
digitalalba Posted 25 March 2015 Posted 25 March 2015 Might be worth it to city if they can attract a game between Brazil and Spain...or more likely Ecuador V Belguim

I think that was a rebuilt/new City ground and a fully completed MK one which would be fine for some 'smaller' games. Aren't they planning to expand it to more teams as well?
Voll Blau Posted 25 March 2015 Posted 25 March 2015 The consequences of the English game need to be thought through before any bid, such as the idea from the last one Plymouth could end up with a stadium holding 45k. If it's going to be good in the long-term I'm all for it, but as a short-term money grab for the FA I'm dead against. Oh, and MK ****** can fvck off as a host venue too.

The fact that clubs like Bristol City, Plymouth and Franchise were all set up to expand their grounds to 40k+ for the odd group game between Ecuador and Iran was laughable. The 2012 Olympic bid won largely because of the 'legacy' argument, but what 'legacy' would there be if Plymouth's 45,000 capacity stadium had 7,500 rattling around inside it for the massive clash between the Green Army and Accrington? It ought really, this time round, to be kept to the clubs who actually ahve te ability to build and maintain the ground after 2026. As nice as the idea of taking it to all parts of England was, the West Country has never been and will never be a hotbed of football.

They're the only team in the region with the potential for a large stadium. If there had to be 2 stadiums for a group in that area I wouldn't be against letting The Millenium Stadium host a few games.

Bristol are redeveloping Ashton Gate now, the new stadium plan never got of the ground, my brother is pissed off about this because he lives 100 metres from Ashton gate and wanted the club to F off. http://www.bcfc.co.uk/club/ashton_gate/
Ashley Posted 25 March 2015 Posted 25 March 2015 England will not get a World cup whilst we are alive. To the older members of the forum 66 doesn't count.
Leicesterpool Posted 26 March 2015 Posted 26 March 2015 No point, the 2018 bid was probably one of the better bids on the panel. The one thing I didn't like about the 2018 bid was of course Milton Keynes being selected as one of the venues.
Leicesterpool Posted 26 March 2015 Posted 26 March 2015 As i've mentioned before, I wish there was a rival to Fifa.
