Ford Super Sunday Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 EXCLUSIVE: Dutch star Edgar Davids to make surprise return to English football with Premier League strugglers PortsmouthEdgar Davids is being enticed out of retirement by Portsmouth to make a shock return to the Premier League. The 36-year-old has been without a club since his contract expired with Ajax last summer but his hiatus has only served to revive his appetite for the game. Leicester had been in secret talks with the former Dutch international`s advisors over the last fortnight and believed they were close to luring him to the Walkers Stadium. The Foxes board had put together an ambitious £20,000-a-week package plus a clause that would see him secure a large percentage of his image rights. But Pompey were alerted to his availability and Davids, who was nicknamed 'The Pitbull' during his pomp at Ajax, Juventus and AC Milan, has arrived in England to meet both clubs. Fratton Park officials have begun tentative talks with the ex-Tottenham star's representatives and are prepared to match the wages Leicester have offered. New Portsmouth owner Ali Al Faraj is now ready to provide the finances that will allow beleaguered manager Paul Hart to add to a squad that was decimated by sales over the summer. The raft of exits subsequently led to Pompey enduring the worst start to a season by a top-flight team in 79 years as they slumped to seven league defeats in a row. But it is hoped Davids can draw on his vast bank of experience to help steady the sinking Pompey ship. Despite having not played competitive football in over the year, the Surinam-born midfielder is confident he still has something to offer at the highest level. Sauce What the absolute ****?
suffolk fox Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 What a load of crap!!!!! Pure newspaper speculation!!!
Bluefoxtim Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Hahaha! Edgar Davids in a blue city shirt. I assume he's still wearing his goggles?
marbelladave Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Whilst we are short of players in central midfield this would be a panic buy of epic proportions.
davieG Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 The attendances are obviously not high enough for Mandaric

Jon the Hat Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 I don't care. Really, he could sit on the half way line and pick his nose for 90 minutes. I would still love to see such a legend in a leicester shirt. Come on admit - you all feel the same.

Big Ol' Bob Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 This **** can fook right off, in it for his last pay day to stand around doing nothing and then only playing in about 25% of the games. NO THANKS
Thracian Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 It's another Hasselbaink stunt. Total waste of time and money. But appropriately indicative of our increasing obsession with experience. It's all about quick fix and short termism. I'd rather our staff showed they could develop something cos, frankly, I've not seen anywhere near enough evidence of it beyond Beaglehole. Either with players who were already here or with those who've been signed.

Father Ted Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 Maybe there is a reason why he retired? Because he's old and past it.
