Daggers Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 I believe Stanley Matthews is available on a free. He may be a bit smelly - but the shirt sales will be bleeding magnificent.

MPH Posted 20 October 2009 Posted 20 October 2009 ooooh. wasn't it just a few weeks ago that they were saying we had a wage cap on new players of 10k a week? wasn't that the reason that swindon striker didn't sign for us? other clubs offered him more?
Ozwin Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 As said, the simple fact a legend like him would be in a Leicester shirt makes my Larry David very happy indeed. I actually hope it's true. Give him a 6 month contract or something, it'd certainly make us more attractive in terms of other players coming in.
ACF Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 The more and more I think about it, the more I wish it to be true....
Legend_in_blue Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 It's big news on BBC Radio Leicester this morning. Stringer: "Dutch International Superstar" Seriously though if we pull this off... Edgar Davids = IMPACT SIGNING
teblin Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 Pearson confirmed in an interview which is being played on radio leicester this morning that we are interested in signing davids
Ford Super Sunday Posted 21 October 2009 Author Posted 21 October 2009 ^^ I feel a lot happier at starting this thred now... Fantasy crap made me feel a bit bad, but now it's been confirmed, woo!
Bluefoxtim Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 I think still that the chances of this happening are slim. Would be superb if true!
marbelladave Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 I'm not usually a religious man, but for this I will make an exception. Please God, make it go away.....
Filbert_Ross Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 i think he'd be whack, but it would create a buzz about the place
Master Fox Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 gets my vote. he'd be awesome.......as a sub.
Dr The Singh Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 gets my vote.he'd be awesome.......as a sub. where have you been hiding, you married yet, and oh, how' is Bertha???
Jiggers the Fox Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 whilst not being against this, i cant really see how he'd help out the team an awful lot. Defintely would create a good buzz around the place and put us on the map a bit more.
MC Prussian Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 First I thought it was a joke. Then I thought it to be a ridiculous idea. Then it started thinking about how it could upset the team spirit, having a big name and a big earner as part of the squad. Then I looked at Davids' age. 36 and counting. Then I woke up and noticed that I hadn't been dreaming. Not another former-superstar-football-player-joining-lower-league-team-for-pure-pleasure case.
Hitesh Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 I can't see how this could be good for us... Yeah, we might sell a few shirts but not enough to cover his wages! And he is no way going to be good enough anymore! Don't get me wrong, the guy was one of the best back in the day but now he will be more of a liability...I just don't think he will be able to cut it at all in this league. I'd rather we spend the money on getting in a young guy from the PL, someone along the same mould as Davies or Cleverley - players who want to prove themselves - Davids will just be playing for the money more than anything!
RedHux Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 Speaking as a Forest fan who's had to put up with his fair share of ageing "legends" at his club it is my considered opinion that this will probably be an utter waste of time. Unless.....perhaps he's being lined up for the managers chair once Pearson leaves for Boro.....?

First I was afraid I was petrified Kept thinking I could never live with you in my side But I spent so many nights thinking how you are so very old I grew strong I learned how to carry on and so you're back from reitre..... ment I just walked in to find you here with that greedy look upon your face Peason should have changed the stupid lock He should have made you leave your key If I had known for just one second you'd be back to bother city Go on now go, walk out the door just turn around now 'cause you're not welcome anymore weren't you the one who tried to hurt us on 20k a week you thought we'd crumble you thought we'd lay down and die Oh no, not us We will survive as long as i know how to love city I know I will stay alive I've got all my life to live I've got all my love to give and I'll survive I will survive

Davids is available on a free transfer after his contract expired at Ajax in the summer. The 36-year-old is believed to be keen on a return to England after enjoying two seasons at Spurs between 2005-07. Portsmouth are also reported to be weighing up a move for the midfield dynamo, but Leicester are hoping to lure the Dutchman to the Walkers Stadium. Davids has enjoyed a glittering career after coming to the fore at Ajax in the early 1990s. He has played for the likes of AC Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan and Barcelona before pitching up at Spurs and if Leicester can convince him to return to England he could be plying his trade in the Championship.
Babylon Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 Am I the only one who's reaction is to laugh every time they see/read about this? It's as mad as Mancini joining us all those years ago.

Ford Super Sunday Posted 21 October 2009 Author Posted 21 October 2009 While it is strange, and a bit of a gimmick, if he does the job it'd be great. The best news I heard was when Nigel said it was a joint venture. I really don't think he would allow this if he didn't want to, remember he quashed the Savage move when he had the chance to re-sign him. Maybe Pearson does see something in Edgar, and maybe he can do a job till the end of the season. Of course, there is a temptation to say this will be an unmitigated disaster, and go tits up, pissing off players, upsetting the manager if he is only putting on a brave public face on it. Still gotta sign on the dotted line of course, but I wouldn't mind it. I've already seen a comment on another forum from a Swansea fan saying 'I hope he plays at the Liberty.' That's the impact he would have. the vibe which would reverberate around the club would be huge, there would be an increase. Maybe I am overstating the potential of signing him, and of course he has to be able to cut it on the pitch. There are concerns that he won't be up with the scrappy nature of the CCC, on the other hand, he could really increase our passing game, and give licence for midfielders to go piling forward. The only worry I have is not the wage, it's not if he's shit, not that it might upset the dressing room (though it wouldnt hurt the younger players) My only worry is the potential that this isn't what Pearson wants, and this move is going over his head, because I still have that interview with Allen, when he said 'nah there ain't no rift' between him and Mandaric. Please mean it when you say you want this signing Nige, please! It's all very exciting, that we are sure of anyway
Budweiser Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 Coming up on SSN in a couple of mins. Should be interesting to see if they know anything more.
