I need a new pair of headphones for my i-pod, Any ideas?

Have been using Sennheisser MX-500 for the last couple of years and although more than happy with the sound they produce the cable is very short which gets annoying sometimes.

Was just interested in what other people use.

Also have a flight to Australia via Singapore and coming back via Tokyo in November and was concidering buying some noise cancelling headphones, But wasn't sure whether this would reduce sound quality much.

I use Sennheiser MX-660 priced about £25.00 - £30.00 and they are excellent to be fair they bring your ipod to life!!

I use Sennheiser Backband Headphones PMX200

Love em. I cant be doing with the in-ear plugs as they keep coming loose.

I got my daughter these for her birthday yesterday. Apparently to look cool with you ipod now you need big uns

Philips SHL9600

I am impressed by these as I was concerned about the volume levels that they could achieve from an ipod output but it is very good.

I have some noise cancelling ones but have never liked them. They seem to muffle the sound but I suppose if you spend £100s on them then they may be better than the £30 ones I bought. The ones above have a leather cushion thing to go over the whole ear so you get virtually no back ground sound. Having said that I have yet to try them on a plane.

Here's another one of the Sennheiser family  :

I'm more than happy with my CX 300. Just didn't want to be another one of those white-Apple-earphones-guy. The CX 300 provide excellent sound quality and - since I love cranking up the volume -they are hardly audible to the outside! And they don't even cost that much.

I've got some pimped Grado SR60s. I love 'em.

I've also got some Bose in-ear 'phones. Whilst they're very good, my £22 Sony in-ears are very nearly as good...they go right down your hole. I use them at the gym. I've tried the £120 Bose on-ear headphones (HMV High St  ) and they were fab-a-lous.

I have a pair of them PMX 200s, good but wouldn't want to wear them for a long period of time.

Have some CX300s at the moment, I love them, and they're only about £17 on Amazon:

EDIT: Just realised I was beaten to it.

I'm also a big fan of the Sennheiser CX300s - I think they've lasted longer than any headphones I've had previously as well.

If you've not had headphones that go right into the inside of your ear that form a seal (which is why you cannot hear the outside world very well) they take a bit of getting used to - particularly if you wear them while walking and running. You can hear every footstep, the cable brushing against your clothes etc, but your brain soon gets used to it and shuts these sounds out

in norway, you see these fu(kers everywhere, they look crap i reckon---

apparently, they got a really good 'best value' revue, so everyone atarted buying them, but now they're about 30 quid... i do not have a pair.

These in ear phones never seem to feel right for me. The sound seems so dull compared to ear buds - they give a much clearer sound. Maybe I'm just buying the wrong sort? Which would be bad luck since I've tried 3 including Sony and Seinhessier and they were both rubbish.

Just ordered the white ones. My iPod ones are battered.

If you're used to iPod 'phones, you'll be amazed

Used to have some of the in-ear ones with my Song Erricson, loved them. But yeah, I guess I'll be accustomed to the iPod ones at the moment.

I was blown away when I changed to my Sennheiser's. Massive difference. iPod headphones are an insult to good music.

Agreed same here!!

I don't know why apple bother to make headphones because they are really poor quality and for the price a total rip off!!

I got some pricy Shure ones, and I've had others, but they never beat the bog-standard Sony Ericsson ones...and they've just died.

*edit: I've found some CX500's on Amazon for £12...now that's a bloomin' bargain! Sold to the tired man on the sofa.

None of this for an iPod though - iTunes sucks donkey knobs as far as I'm concerned and the iTouch I had I never used because I disliked it upon first use.

I'll take it from you if you don't want it.

As a portable devise i dont think you can complain about i-pod, Has to be better than listening to them on the old SA-90's?

Yes you can - the audio quality was far inferior to the Archos605 and even the S.E.W850i.

It's undoubtably a sexy looking beast but I feel its functionality falls well short of the competition. The only key advantage it has is the touch screen which was never the essential ingredient in the mix I was looking for.

Then there's iTunes. The iTouch doesn't exist without iTunes and I loath it as a piece of software - it is truly ridiculous and cumbersome; I want to drag and drop my data.

So it's gone for a bargain price and it'll be the last iPod to grace my house until they sort out some rather major issues...meanwhile the world will carry on sucking up to Apple's arse because everyone else has one.

I am, like, so totally with you on that, dude (or something).

I don't trust Apple either, and my computer is shite enough as it is without clogging it up with effing itunes. Hence I bought my little, but gorgeous sounding, Sansa E280

I cant believe the difference in quality. I have an Archos 604 (Like D's but no wifi) and when you play tunes the sound is as you would expect. Play the same tunes on my nano and the bass breaks up. I cant believe people still recommend ipods. NB the wife bought me the nano.

As for itunes. What a shit program. Sync my salty ones apple!

Wow.

I can strongly commend CX500's. All the pairs on Amazon are currently going for £20 - but I'd still say they were worth it for that. They piss all over my Shure set which I paid £90 for. Stunning bass, bright treble - perfect if you like in-ear buds...which I do.
