davieG Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 Cambridge OS Morrison on the Move Posted on: Mon 30 Jun 2008 Michael Morrison will sign for Leicester City tomorrow (Tuesday), joining the former Premiership club who were relegated from the Championship to League One at the end of last season. The 20-year-old moves in exchange for a transfer fee that must remain undisclosed at Leicester City's request, and will be increased by additional payments based on appearances and promotions and a sell-on clause. Director George Rolls told cambridgeunited.com that monies from the transfer will be made available to manager for strengthening the squad. "It's a good deal for the club and a cracking move for Michael," Rolls added. "An opportunity like this doesn't come along every day and it wouldn't be right to stand in his way, especially after he did right by us in February by signing a new contract. "He could have kept his options open and walked away this summer for a fee potentially set by a tribunal, but he signed a new deal with us and I felt honour-bound to let him talk to Leicester City. "We've agreed a good deal with Leicester and we wish Michael well," concluded Rolls. "He's still only 20 and hopefully he will continue to carve out an exciting career." 'Morro' came through United's youth system and played for the reserves at the age of 15 while still a schoolboy - the youngest-ever Cambridge United player to do so. He signed his first pro contract and made his Conference debut at the age of 17, and has been almost ever-present since then, making over 100 league appearances.

davieG Posted 30 June 2008 Author Posted 30 June 2008 Name: Michael Morrison Nationality: English Date of Birth: 03/03/1988 Position: Defender This towering centre-half played for the reserves at the age of 15 while still a schoolboy and became the youngest-ever Cambridge United player to do so.He demonstrated a cool head beyond his years in the 2005 pre-season friendlies, and in October 2005 he was rewarded with a pro contract at the age of just 17 and made his LDV, FA Cup and Conference debut appearances in three consecutive games. Almost ever-present since then, 'Morro' has attracted attention from clubs at higher levels and has trained with Everton, Preston, Newcastle United, Watford and Chelsea. Young Player of the Year for the last two seasons, he is already an established member of the squad and has played for the England C side several times. In late 2007 Michael rejected the offer of a new contract and looked set to leave at the end of the season, but in February 2008, with United still in the play-off places and having rejected a series of offers for him from Southend United, Michael ended speculation about his future by signing a new contract to 2010. SamL Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 Ooo we want the fee to remain unknown. Like a lot of the transfer dealings we've been doing lately.

SamL Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 http://www.cambridge-united.premiumtv.co.u...3~34393,00.htmlSecond paragraph is interesting. This sounds a very promising signing.
Unabomber Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 Good, a promising young defender and not some has been.
Corky Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 Good to see we are looking at young, up-and-coming players with something to prove, rather than journeymen wanting to wind down their careers. Hopefully he'll be a good signing for the club, and a useful addition to the team.
Jack Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 Never heard of him, atleast he has something to prove and he is only young. Sounds quite promising.
Jonezy Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 Heard him mentioned in the transfer talk forum, thats it. I like this signing young hungry players instead of old warhorses.... Welcome Michael!
Thracian Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 Sounds promising enough to me. Big, strong and young. Lets trust he can pass the ball too, which would be a novelty.
lookwhaticando Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 There's a bloody truck load of knowitalls about at the minute, where the bollocks do we keep finding them? Still... kudos on the shout to the 4,528 people who knew he was coming. You've done us truly proud. Anyway, this kind of signing excites me somewhat. The unknown and all that... don't fear it, embrace it. Rather a Morro than knackered old has-been.
