We didn’t ’get in behind them’ for the goal. It was a very well worked goal where we played through them. One other example you quote ….. in a game at home ro Wrexham 🥴😞. Have to reckon that whatever he did at RBS was a different time and different level. Right now he’s a liability - and yes, I know the other option aren’t much better if at all.

Stretch it where? At no point was that game ‘stretched’. They denied him space behind and he has virtually nothing else to offer. In a dominant team, he’s a liability.

My finger is still pointing at the players. Daka, in a game where we were going to dominate possession, is a crap decision. Bringing Skipp on - ever - is a crap decision. Not bringing Ayew on to hold the ball up and give us an out whilst we were leading ……. is a crap decision. But more than anything, our players were crap. But my finger is twitching and Marti has to do better with what he has. It might be poor, but it’s still a better hand than most managers have in this league. He’s hugely likeable, but that won’t cut it for long with performances like this.

Looks awful. Slow, lacks physicality and speed of thought. Happy to revise opinion in a few weeks, but right now looks poor.

This sums up the issue for me. It’s a squad we all know lacks goals. We needed a striker worthy of the designation all summer ….. and, whilst it’s too early to be sure, like you my suspicion is that Carranza isn’t that person. Daka does press well - but that’s what you do when you haven’t got the ball. In most games this season we will have most of the ball most of the time…… at which point he becomes useless to us. Which leaves us with Ayew or a totally in experienced kid. I doubt any of us think Ayew is the answer. I just, personally, don’t see a better answer in this squad. 😞

Match day squad moaning is so tedious. That’s the strongest side & squad we have at the moment.

Get your points. 👍. And we all see it differently. I always look at the ratings on here. Fatawu, it seems, will always score high. Ayew, it seems, is destined to always score low. I look at it like this - Fatawu is a Ferrari. We love to admire him and when he’s running well it’s a true driving experience to behold. But he also breaks down and leaves you stranded at the side of the road quite often. Ayew is a Ford Focus. He can’t do what the Ferrari does. But he gets you from A-B without fail day after day, trip after trip. 😂. Personally, if we are going to play Ayew I think he has to have more players around him. I’d love to see us move back to having a four behind our striker rather than a three. It would make our press more impactful and enable us to benefit from Ayew’s ability to hold the ball up.

We all see games so differently. First half I thought we were ponderous. Second half I thought, in the main, we were excellent. Difference was that we had players looking to go forwards. Soumare makes such an impact when he drives with the ball. He’s a unit and not easily countered. The abuse for Ayew is bizarre. He is what he is. And for me he’s been our best player so far this season, overall. He’s just slow. Carranza looked good when he came on with good movement and a good first touch and vision. He does also look ponderously slow, though. Anyone against Winks after this game needs to give their head a wobble. Defensively much better with Faes, who I also thought was very good. Frustrating result, but lots of positive signs.

This is challenging. Second best - and by a lot. Soooo slow on the ball. Invites a high press. Ayew is our best outlet, but his lack of mobility is such an issue for is getting up the pitch.

Big test for Thomas against Van Ewijk.

I liked the Thomas that played a few games at the end of last season and looked to have developed a mean streak and toughened up. Can we have him back instead of the soft lad that’s currently playing? The other one looked genuinely promising.

And that’s why I’d pick a Faes over Okoli- he has more pace, energy and is better on the ball. Despite the rubbish the anti-Faes brigade in here spout, he’s still our best central defender.
