  1. On a more happier note, I was at WBA - Bristol City for talkSPORT today, watching a rather more popular ex manager of ours. Saw Nigel afterwards for press duties. Big smiles and the usual "eh up lad" but wasn't sure whether to go for the fist bump or handshake or even if he was keeping his distance because of his Covid issues. We eventually went in for a handshake and hand-on-the-arm thing and with a huge smile he said: "Of course we can shake hands... but obviously I'll need to sanitise afterwards !" Never change, Nige. Never change
  2. Ha! Plenty of revisionism on FT about his tenure but maybe they're just looking for attention. Anyway, I'm glad he no longer has his toxic little fingers anywhere near our great football club. The immortals (and others) would tell you exactly the same.
  3. Lost his place to Perezinho. Torino manager has his favourites, clearly.
  4. Presser is scheduled for 2.15
  5. When everyone is fit, Vestergaard probably doesn't even make the bench. Perhaps the same goes for Bertrand. Bertrand was the Fuchs replacement and Fuchs barely featured in recent times. Vestergaard wouldn't have been recruited had Fofana (and Evans) been injured. We needed cover but not the cost of elite level players, especially when we didn't sell anyone this summer (which is what every wanted, right?) We paid £15m for two squad players which is nothing much in modern terms. The level of hyperbole is ridiculous.
  6. You'll never believe how much the club paid me for my PR during the Puel tenure
  7. You've missed the point of what I was saying but never mind....
  8. The same goes for whatever we do ON the field too.
  9. Modern Life Is Goodish was such an enjoyable show. Hope that Dave Gorman brings it back!
  10. Erm............ So how did the top 5 get on against newly promoted teams last season. Champions Manchester City 11 points = W3 D2 L1 | drew with West Brom and Leeds and also lost to Leeds Second placed Manchester United 12 points = W3 D3 | drew with Fulham and West Brom and Leeds [and also lost to relegated Sheffield United] Third placed Liverpool 9 points = W2 D3 L1 | drew with Fulham and lost to Fulham, drew with West Brom and Leeds Fourth placed Chelsea 13 points = W4 D1 L1 | drew and lost to West Brom Fifth placed Leicester City 12 points = W4 L2 | lost to Fulham and Leeds, won the others So of the top five last season, we had the joint second best record against the promoted teams, and better than the champions! And FWIW, our record against the the teams who finished top four... W4 D1 L3 = 13 points from possible 18
  11. Unpopular opinion alert: I think we're lucky to have had him as long as we have. He's destined for greater things than us. [Obviously would love him to stay for another 10 years of course]
  12. Tiebreakers Teams are ranked according to points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss). If two or more teams are tied on points, the following tiebreaking criteria are applied, in the order given, to determine the rankings. - Points in head-to-head matches among the tied teams; - Goal difference in head-to-head matches among the tied teams; - Goals scored in head-to-head matches among the tied teams; - If more than two teams were tied, and after applying all head-to-head criteria above, a subset of teams are still tied, all head-to-head criteria above are reapplied exclusively to this subset of teams; - Goal difference in all group matches; - Goals scored in all group matches; - Away goals scored in all group matches; - Wins in all group matches; - Away wins in all group matches; - Disciplinary points (direct red card = 3 points; double yellow card = 3 points; single yellow card = 1 point); - UEFA club coefficient. Due to the abolition of the away goals rule, head-to-head away goals are no longer applied as a tiebreaker starting from this season. However, total away goals are still applied as a tiebreaker.
  13. Unfortunately it's all parts of the political spectrum and beyond who use toxic language. Everyone should dial down the abuse - politicians, social media warriors, all of them.
  14. Commentators do the main legwork themselves. Sky Sports and probably MOTD have stats people who supply stuff but essentially you do it yourself.
  15. Merely proves what an absolute con the rules are if nobody checks this stuff. Wonder if my "friend" will manage to use the same reference number for a third time......
  16. For commentaries, the level of detail about the teams and individual players we do is insane - and most of it is never used. Much less for just reporting at games - it's easier to google stuff during the match when you're not commentating.
  17. Lucy Ward. She's a former Leeds striker, also played for England U21. Worked with her a few times for talkSPORT. Always comes with pages of prep, very thorough, and she's bloody fantastic on air.
  18. Think we need to change the title of this thread to Castange given how often his name is incorrectly written on FT.
  19. No, but he's not exactly going to recommend the club sign a car crash player to play in front of him!
  20. Any true fan who didn't go to this game is a plastic.
  21. You obviously never watched us 2004-2008. I appreciate you're one of the constant moaners here but relax and try and enjoy the fact we got a terrific away win in Europe.
  22. Vestegaard is a much better player than what we've seen so far. He's fourth choice when Evans, Soyuncu and Fofana are all available. Definitely too early to write him off.
