So many things went wrong this season, but I think you could point to our goalkeeping calamities and say that if we just got that right then we would likely have stayed up. We were led to believe our backups to Kasper were good enough and they just weren’t. Even with all of the other problems we had this season, fix the goalkeeper and we’d finish with 5-10 extra points.

I know… just cautious to jump to conclusions that we know / don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. My gut feel is that we were destined to get Potter and now we are Championship we need to start the search again. However agree that I would like to see a decision on JR asafp because almost all of the other decisions stem from that.

OK so if we're having an internal review, wouldn't you expect that to complete before you start seeing approaches for new hires? I wouldn't base an opinion of the club on how many rumours are coming out - if we believed them all we'd have had David Beckham and Edgar Davids in the team.

I’d imagine the calibre of candidate will be vastly different depending on what division we are in, and we didn’t know that until Sunday. Also many of these candidates will be currently employed and will be having discussions themselves. If you have two offers on the table from different clubs managers, DoFs, scouts etc still have to make the personal decision of what to choose, contracts need to done and compensation agreed. Key people in other clubs could be on holiday. And some of the candidates may have been at clubs who had things to play for right up until the end too (eg Mark Robins). my point is - it’s not just about having the will to get things done, there are many factors in play.

It’s 4 days since the game, Southampton have known they were relegated much longer than we have. These things take time, well, at least more than 96 hours.

This sounds more like stoicism than zen but agree with what you say. For me I remember being at the Arsenal 3-3 draw in 1997 and my dad turned to me and said - enjoy this while it lasts because it won’t last forever.

Give it to someone who’s going to play every game and has a lower injury risk. And ideally someone with experience. Expect I’ll get laughed at but as the squad stands right now I’d give it to Iversen. However if we bring in some strong experienced replacements for Maddison, Tielemans, Vardy, Evans, Cags then perhaps one of them.

This is the kind of thing I could get behind if I was 9.
