And to rub salt in it; his compensation was to be deducted 'board and lodging' for his time in prison. Unbelievable.

Thank you very much @davieGfor those wartime bombing maps - fascinating stuff. I grew up close the the old AEI/Marconi works on Scudamore Road and we used to play in one of those 'bomb holes' as we called it. It is now filled in. However, yesterday I took 2 of my grandsons on to the site of the old Western Golf course and we looked at one of the ponds, caused, I believe, by a bomb on the same raid. There are 2 or 3 other surviving ones there too. I assume the raid was an attempt to cause damage to the Leicester Municipal Aerodrome and the Reid and Sigrist facility. Interestingly, they missed, instead causing the aforementioned craters in the immediate surrounding area. I wish I had quizzed an elderly lady and her daughter who lived close to where I grew up about that night. Their farmhouse, as it was then, was but yards from the site of one of the craters. I bet their house took a good rumble?

I had to smile at this The US Secret Service did not put agents on the rooftop where an assassin shot at Donald Trump for health and safety reasons, the head of the agency has said. Kimberly Cheatle, the Secret Service director, said the “sloped roof” where Thomas Matthew Crooks was positioned on Saturday could have posed a risk to agents. 'I know I swore to lay down my life and take a bullet to protect presidents and ex presidents from an assassins bullet but come on, I could slip and hurt myself going on that roof.'

Things you only just found out about.

Not just found out but very, very late to, was carrot cake and cheese cake. I thought they were cakes that tasted like carrots and cakes tasting like Red Leicester or something. Urgh! No thanks. But then I tried some. I am now on a mission to catch-up on 40 odd years of misguided, self-imposed abstinence. -

I was reading an aircraft enthusiasts forum some time ago when it was announced that BA (I think it was) were retiring their 747 fleet. One poster who said he was a pilot with BA, said it wasn't before time - claiming many were quite literally held together with gaffer tape.

I was kindly given a £20 Amazon gift card as a thank you. I've been trying to use it....... It took me TWO FECKING HOURS to place a simple order. Wound me up so much it feels like the gift card was a punishment now rather than a gift.

When Suella Braverman said that multiculturalism has failed, Ashworth appeared on BBC's Question time that week arguing that Leicester was a shining example of that NOT being the case. However, every example he gave merely demonstrated that yes, all groups are represented here BUT all the examples of festivals ect that are celebrated here are very largely, only celebrated by fully signed-up members of that group - there is no integration. And now, we've had Muslims and Hindus at each others throats in Leicester over issues in India and a sitting Labour MP ousted over Gaza. I've even read Ashworth was chased from a street by a group of Muslims whilst canvassing Their loyalties and hearts do not reside in Leicester or the UK I'm afraid. I worry this divide will grow.

I think the turnout amongst Muslim voters especially, would have been far, far higher. Starmer was right; he was worried complacency amongst Labour voters due to the polls showing a massive Labour lead, could affect things. It has in Leicester South.

Perhaps not the time or place to mention this, but does the average member of the public discuss politics much, even at this moment in time? I was out playing tennis on Tuesday, during a chat afterwards the election wasn't mentioned once. Yesterday I was with 10 other folks aged between 50 and 70 for a couple of hours. Again, politics was not mentioned once.

Gallop poll?

I used to 'watch' city away matches on Ceefax.

I was listening to a Euro commentary the other day, the one where they had to come off for a while due to lightning. The female commentator was speaking like an over excited 12 year old and just wouldn't shut up. It was like she hadn't seen heavy rain before. Her voice was really grating and I felt my head would explode if I didn't switch it off - which I did.

Dismissing folks concerns as 'nimby' is unfair as well as tiresome. Blaby district has probably been more developed in recent times than comparable areas elsewhere. Blaby council have even offered to take on some of the city councils housing requirements. The golf course in Enderby as well as the Western Golf Course (significant part of which falls within Blaby district) all earmarked for further massive development. When you throw into the mix the main arterial roads on that side of the city/county, I think folk have every right to voice concerns because so much has been already carried out in their 'back yard', not to mention other bordering areas/authorities.

Leicester 'could face points deduction next season'
Free Falling Foxes replied to ClaphamFox's topic in Leicester City Forum
Would this fall under 'Player Laundering'? If so, EPL and psr are onto it, claiming it falls outside the spirit of the rules. https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/premier-league-psr-loophole-aston-villa-chelsea-everton-rival-clubs-anger-transfer-business/blt79ea8942e74b24d0 -
I guess I'm fortunate in that the simple things in life give me pleasure and make me feel good. Two things this week, both involving our feathered friends. I was sitting under a tree in our garden when a young family of Wrens appeared. There was about 6 or 7 of them, clearly oblivious to my presence just 3 feet below them. They were hopping from branch to branch looking for tasty morsels and also going up to their mother on occassions for an helping hand - well, beak. She too, was also keeping an eye on proceedings This only lasted around 2 minutes but was an absolute delight. Then today, whilst sitting on a bench in Bradgate Park, several swifts gave me a low level aerobatic display for a few minutes. They even circled where I was sitting several times. Wonderful.

On the subject of noses; there is something deeply satisfying about removing any big bogeys that form up there. Finger only mind, using an hanky or tissue just isn't the same. There was a time they would get eaten too - but I've grown out of that now.
