There’s a huge area between us and Newcastle. Plenty of better clubs than us he could start for, even if not at Newcastle’s level.
-
Nail on head and what I have been saying. We have found ourselves in a position where one man is now considered more important than a 141 year old club. Nobody should be more important than the club.
-
Years 25 to 50 don’t really tell you anything. The worst and the best have been in the last 25 years. I began supporting this club aged 8 in 2002, as we were in the administration period, followed by a series of the worst league finishes in the pyramid in the clubs history, relegation to the third tier for the first time and part of crowds of about 6000 in the FA cup early rounds! And I am furious with how the club is being managed and run into the ground. So when people chuck this BS about people who are unhappy only being around since 2016 and not experiencing the back times, with respect, those people can piss right off! So if you have supported for 50 years (that arbitrary figure that gets thrown out by many), you haven’t seen any highs and lows that someone supporting for 23 years hasn’t. Just more of the mediocrity and some promotions and relegations between the top flight and second tier.

Sheff Utd (away) - New Years Day - 17:30
LCFCJohn replied to Spudulike's topic in Leicester City Forum
Context. Throwing away a 14 point lead is poor for any team in any position and at any level. It was infuriating when we chucked away a large lead the season before we were promoted under Pearson. It was infuriating when we nearly did under Maresca and would be if we were mid table and bombed to relegation. I don’t think Villa would be particularly happy if they finished behind Brighton or Spurs now (14 points ahead of them at New Year). Context is important and to throw such a lead away is a mental collapse in any case. It’s the same mentality that has seen use then relegated with a side who shouldn’t have been, nearly throw promotion away, not put up a fight last season and now unable to string a couple of wins together in the second tier. We have never recovered mentally or financially from those collapses and I find it surprising it has always been played down. -
The “I came through the Leicester City academy” XI

Yes it’s hard to compare positions and eras. I am far too young for Shilton and too young for Lineker but I imagine overall, the game was less technical even though there would have been incredibly talented players. If your measure is technical ability, I wouldn’t say even those who have come through and left in recent years are technically talented as you say. Barnes and KDH both more powerful players and with a good end product but not what you’d call technical players. Chilwell is an odd one. Burned short and bright almost but injures and moving to Chelsea haven’t been kind to him. -

Depends what you mean by talent (like technical ability or just class). Shilton is the best, along with Banks, keeper England has seen. Heskey was class and played at the highest level but was quite a brute so would never get classed as a technically great player. Obviously a different game back then and you’d hope for the sake of Nelson and Monga, that they can match and go even further than the current crop who are playing top flight football (KDH, Barnes, Chilwell). For me, Shilton and Lineker for their careers as a whole and for England. Heskey a bit back but a great career also. -
In my mind, the only difference between the clubs you have mentioned is that they have bottomed out and we haven’t yet. This could get every bit as ugly as particularly Wednesday or Blackburn (both different routes as Wednesday went bang spectacularly and Chansiri is now gone whereas the Venky’s continue whatever they are doing). I think Bury is even more extreme and wouldn’t expect that level. All that has rattled them is being criticised. They either don’t think they are doing anything wrong or just don’t like it being pointed out. For me, it’s likely that they just continue to double down. Decision making seems to be getting worse, not better. I don’t even know who would take over and it is true that many clubs fan bases have gripes with their owners as such is football now that it is full of greed and many owners are rich for a reason and have made their fortunes in way that don’t make them great people let’s say. But you just want someone who will install the right people, football people, in the right positions. Be communicative as a club and just have back what Leicester City means. Nothing about this club is the one I fell in love with any more.

But when does this change? We going to be sat here in 5 years time, in administration and L2 saying ‘just give him time’ and ‘let’s hope he steps up’. What has given you the slightest hope or sign that the is is ever going to happen? Aiyawatt is a bigger problem than Rudkin. Rudkin has at least been round football his entire life. He is in a position above his station and likely has to follow instructions from Aiyawatt. But who put him there? Who keeps him there? Come on, if Aiyawatt was in the slightest way going to accept any responsibility and change, he’d have done so by now. But as I have said numerous times now. The most dangerous thing here is that we now have one individual who is considered bigger and more important than the club by a large section of our supporters and that is a problem and will prevent us moving forward.

James in that position doesn’t work. He is better alongside Skipp, deeper. Obviously injury questions over BDR and Ramsey but Page if not them. Otherwise looks ok. Happy for Monga in. Aluko and Ricardo should be rotating at right back more rather than using Choudhury there who is not a full back. I was impressed by Silko when he came on against Derby. I don’t know if he is equipped to lead the line, or start in that position yet. But we are hardly blessed with options there. -

LCFCJohn replied to Lambert09's topic in Transfer Talk
Didn’t go great for him at Palace so clearly one of those, good striker but maybe not in England. I would say a classic case of us just ruining players who do well elsewhere but yeah, his Palace spell also. -
Yeah of course Faes. I don’t include Vestergaard as his contract ran out and we actively kept on a new 3 year contract so that became a 2024 problem, not from 2021. That’s on Maresca. For me there is no way back now. He has shown his distain for the club and fans and that is not recoverable in the way a new manager or signing could be. Also, it is so unhealthy that he has been made more important than the club (around since 1884) by many of our supporters and that is dangerous. We need a clean slate.
-
All this is all well and good. But the bad decisions are escalating and showing no signs of improving. Most of the poor decisions in terms of the squad we are left with, are now actually from within the past couple of years. People talk like it is a hang over from Rodgers but it’s only Daka and Soumare left of his. It depends what you are happy with. Best case going forward with this ownership is stagnate in this league, possibly some trips to League 1. Maybe Charlton a good comparison. We won’t ever get back to the PL with Aiyawatt in charge. That doesn’t particularly bother me if we were well ran and had a club we could still take pride in but I don’t see that under him either.
-
And why would you think this? A lesson in assuming there for you
-
This is a key reason Aiyawatt/KP need to go. A large number of our fanbase (so called), are guilty of the stupidity of putting one man as more important than the club. The club that has been in existence since 1884 and had numerous owners and countless managers/players pass through the club. Not one of them is more important/bigger than the club but apparently, these people think Aiyawatt is. We need a full clean slate. One where we can appreciate and celebrate our achievements and history without them defining what we do now.
-
I was finding the cult mildly amusing before but recently it has passed that to anger. It’s not even on just LCFC pages. Whenever something draws attention on general pages, you have KPFC followers piling on to tell everyone how wonderful our owners are and people unhappy are an entitled minority. It’s hard enough to raise awareness and support in wider circles anyway as other fans won’t be aware of what is happening. I can forgive their ignorance (even though I would always say don’t comment on what you’re not aware of) but KPFC fans, claiming to be LCFC fans and putting out propaganda on behalf of Aiyawatt is disgusting. I find it amusing all these people seem to have supported Leicester for 50 years (an arbitrary figure that seems to get thrown out there as though it holds more weight). If they have, I wonder how often they have done the following two things without any sense of irony or self awareness now. 1. Laughed at the likes of Forest fans ‘living in the past’ despite now harping on about the title win and using this as a reason not to allow any criticism of Aiyawatt/KP. 2. Referred to nobody being bigger than the club despite the fact they make Aiyawatt more important than the very future of the club. There is such little hope for this cub going forwards and it is down to this, unfortunately too large, number within the fanbase. They will be on the wrong side of history and deserve anything that happens to the club. Unfortunately, those of us do care about the club will have to suffer that fall out too.
-
You forgot the good old ‘careful what you wish for’, without the slightest sense of irony that what they think they are referring to, is actually happening now!
-
This line applies much more to Aiyawatt and his foot soldiers in the stands to be fair.

KPFC fans worship a rich guy who doesn’t give a damn about anyone but himself. You think these people care about food banks?
-
I don’t think they will. They will either slink off quietly as they aren’t interested in Leicester City (only Aiyawatt and KP) or still blindly dig in and say KP won us trophies so it’s ok.
-
Mostly this was Vichai no? Has there been any credible cases of Aiyawatt doing anything for the community?

Yeah fair, I know he’s from my neck of the woods. Made his name here but not for this discussion. -
Basically this thread was created 13 years ago when he was reffing in the Championship. 13 years on….still in the Championship. Speaks for itself. Referees are like anyone in that promotion is there. He’s not progressed because he’s shit.

Both before my time (Lineker and Shilton) but I don’t think of them as a different era because of when they finished, but in fairness, Shilton went on to an older age and Lineker finished early. But yeah, he or Banks actually if you were going even further back. Strikers (Heskey and Lineker) speak for themselves. Shilton in goal. Chilwell and Barnes on the left. KDH in the middle are the 6 stand outs. -
Great to see him add a couple of goals in recent weeks too.

Erm, what is the criteria here in terms of delving into history? You’ve gone back for Lineker for example but not Shilton in goal?
