conLAD logan Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 I thought you meant he wouldn't be worth it if he was 26 and at his peak right now. I'd argue he wouldn't be exactly 'worth it' but todays market has inflated prices somewhat so arguably he would get that sort of price yes
4everfox Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 just no, we are in a slight dreamland atm regarding him. He's been important yes but so has the likes of Robert huth. Cambiasso in his prime was never worth 25 million either IMO, he's played well for us but I'd imagine we can find a midfielder for the price of 10 million who would do the same or if not better than Cambiasso has been this season. When Cambiasso was in his prime he was one of the best midfielders in the world. At the age of 26 the year would have been what 2007? He would have commanded a fee of at least 20 million back then so in todays inflated market that figure would be probably 30 million, maybe and probably more.
4everfox Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 John obi mikel has a big trophy cabinet doesn't mean he's worth 25 million! Don't take it as a dig at Cambiasso, I'm just simply adding balance to this view of many who may be slightly overrating him that's all! John Obi Mikel has never, and will never be in the same bracket as Cambiasso. Like I said, in his prime Cambiasso was one of the best midfielders in the world. I'd even go as far as saying he would have been in the top 10 or 20 best players in the world.
Stevosevic Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Cambiasso in his prime in 2015 transfers for £25 million minimum
enmac Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 You must be joking! Mesut Ozil cost 42 M. If EC was 26, do you think he'd be worth any less? No disrespect meant for Ozil- I still think he's a top player, but EC would be way more effective at Arsenal.
conLAD logan Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 perhaps this is the wrong place to debate about Cambiasso but I've never seen such exaggeration of a player, and please don't compare him to ozil they are completely different players while admittedly ozil probably was better than Cambiasso in an attacking midfield role than Cambiasso is as a centre defensive midfielder

Difference being that Cambiasso has made a major contribution to every trophy he's ever won, rather than coming off the bench like Mikel. Ridiculous comparison.

But the "evidence" you are presenting to back up your theory is completely and utterly stupid. If you are going to debate, at least present a good case and not a spur of the moment bunch of nonsensical garbage. Has your head been in the sand for the past six months?
Guest LCFC_World Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Seasons finally over, now we can get talking about potential transfers.. Huth. Number 1 priority in my opinion. Without him, I honestly don't think we would have stayed up. Cambissso - looking unlikely after he more or less waved goodbye on Sunday, but if we can get another year out of him then that would be great - otherwise we need to spend some money on a younger version of him. Look abroad. If we are going to keep playing this 3-5-2 formation, then LB and RB positions are not as important as we thought they would be earlier on this season. What I do think we need though is another CB.
Stevosevic Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Genuine question ConLad Logan - how old are you? It definitely appears that you weren't at an age to appreciate how good Cambiasso was when he was in his prime - he was a fantastic player.
dedlock Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 We need real PL quality in defence. If we sign Huth that's a start. Was,Upson & Konch all out of contract leaves Wes & Liam as our CBs Assuming Simpson is off to HMP,only RDL as FB plus the current wing backs. Goals conceded was the problem in the poor run, making it difficult to get results. With uncertainty over Esteban,James injury & Hammond out of contract, that leaves a midfield of DD & King. We will need strengthening in central midfield too. In other words, several quality recruits to the spine of the team.

I meant in terms of the thread we are in and what is the need for a case? Im entitled to my opinion of Cambiasso not being as good as you guys like to make out, which is fair

It definitely appears that you weren't at an age to appreciate how good Cambiasso was when he was in his prime - he was a fantastic player. look, he was a good player but I'm simply stating he wasn't as good as some are making out, I don't think I've put anything controversial tbh, I just think people are slightly overrating of him.

Ridiculous comparison. I was simply stating a player can win trophies but that doesn't mean they are amazing players. I'm gonna say that before this season you most probably hadn't seen much of him, you wouldn't know what he contributed towards every title he's won then would you?

I'm gonna say that before this season you most probably hadn't seen much of him, you wouldn't know what he contributed towards every title he's won then would you? He played for Real Madrid, Argentina and Inter Milan during their most successful period. Most people had seen a lot of him and recognised he was world class. He's taken on a more creative role with us than he had before though which just goes to show he was probably even better, and had even more to his game than we realised.

Now and prime?
South Shire Fox Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Danny Ings. I think his style of play would suit us perfectly. Just depends whether he wants to go to a bigger club and sit on the bench or play regular football for a team like ours.
conLAD logan Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Just out of interest marks out of 10 how would you rate cambiasso??? Now and prime? very hard to judge, do you mean in terms of importance to the team? Because Id argue he became as important to our team now than he has for any team he's been at before, I think without him we wouldn't have probably stayed up, but I'd argue many of the teams he's been at before would have still won their titles without him.
Robin JD Popley Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Looks like my favourite left back in the Championship has certainly made an impression today judging by twitter etc. Tell you, George Friend would be a bargain buy for us.

South Shire Fox Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Was shit. Why anyone would want him over Schlupp is beyond me. Dont know whether you know this but we need more then one left back at the club..
TheSomersetFox Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 Dont know whether you know this but we need more then one left back at the club..So we should sign someone worse than what we've got?Who definitely wouldn't be cheap
Robin JD Popley Posted 25 May 2015 Posted 25 May 2015 I know I will be yelled down for this but I still don't really rate Jeff yet. I like his desire and his pace is unquestionable. I will also say he definitely made significant steps in the right direction this season, but fundamentally, his decision making at times is awful.
