"This was an assassination attempt and is yet another tragedy"

He clearly says it, but the context shows quite clearly that it's a tragedy because he wasn't made to face what he's done - something I suspect most attacking him for it would agree with, that it would have been preferable democratic and not barbarically hypocritical to make him stand trial for his crimes.

Anyone slightly concerned Corbyn is prepared to work for the Iranian government on it's state television?

This is a regime that still executes homosexuals.

Not as concerned as I am that we sell billions of pounds worth of armaments to Saudi Arabia, which has one of the worst human rights records in the world, including similar persecution of homosexuals. But I guess that's ok, coz it creates employment.

Was he working for the Iranian government or just doing a TV interview? If the latter, do Cameron, Corbyn, Miliband and Farage all work for the BBC?

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/01/world/europe/jeremy-corbyn-favorite-to-lead-britains-labour-party-is-criticized-for-bin-laden-comments.html?_r=0

Mr. Corbyn spoke in an interview with Iranian Press TV, an English-language channel, a few days after Bin Laden was killed in Pakistan in May 2011 by American forces. His comments were relatively nuanced, and came in the context of a condemnation of the killing of the leader of Al Qaedawithout any indication that American troops had tried to capture him alive or bring him to trial.

“There was no attempt whatsoever that I can see to arrest him, to put him on trial, to go through that process,” Mr. Corbyn said. “This was an assassination attempt, and is yet another tragedy, upon a tragedy, upon a tragedy.” He said the killing made the world “a more dangerous” place and predicted the killing of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, the Libyan leader, which in fact took place later the same year after a Western effort to overthrow his government.

“The World Trade Center was a tragedy, the attack on Afghanistan was a tragedy, the war in Iraq was a tragedy,” Mr. Corbyn said. “Tens of thousands of people have died. Torture has come back on to the world stage, been canonized virtually into law by Guantánamo and Bagram. Can’t we learn some lessons from this? Are we just going to descend deeper and deeper?”

“The next stage will be an attempted assassination on Qaddafi and so it will go on. This will just make the world more dangerous and worse and worse and worse.” The solution, he said, “has got to be law, not war.”

Mr. Corbyn was echoing what was then commonplace left-wing criticism of American foreign policy, military interventions, drone strikes and killings without trial. While Mr. Corbyn does not deny the comments, a Corbyn spokesman told the newspaper The Sun, which dug up the interview, that “Jeremy is a total opponent of Al Qaeda and all it stands for.”

Whether it would have been feasible to have taken Bin Laden alive and put him on trial, I've no idea, but otherwise Corbyn's comments seem eminently reasonable.

Saudi cash is also one of the main sources of funding for Islamic State. What is the government/West doing about that? Almost nothing, as far as I can tell.

You should work for the Daily Mail.

I'm on about the programs he's presented with Galloway, they aren't interviews are they?

And come on Frank, you've got to stop this. Why would we be scared? The day Labour appoint him is the day they cease to be a serious political party.

People who say the things Jeremy Corbyn does won't be PM. Bilo has been spot on though, his political supporters are absolutely ****ing crackers. Worse than the SNP lot.

Could you post a link re. "the programs that Corbyn has presented with Galloway"?

I've just Googled it and can only find references to Corbyn appearing once, instead of Galloway, 5 years ago:

Jewish Chronicle: http://www.thejc.com/news/uk-news/41633/galloway-corbyn-rapped-ofcom-press-tv-israel-programme

OFCOM: http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/binaries/enforcement/broadcast-bulletins/obb170/issue170.pdf(pp. 10-18)

Corbyn got his knuckles rapped by OFCOM for a 2010 "Comment" piece in which he called for economic sanctions against Israel for its repeated breaches of UN resolutions, without adequately representing Israel's views as a counter-balance.

I wonder how often most newspapers present an adequate and balanced representation of Corbyn's views?  :D

I'm no Corbynista, but don't like to see truth mixed with distortion, smears and mud-slinging - an art in which you're the No. 1 specialist on here.

Am open to being proved wrong by a link showing Corbyn regularly presenting programmes with Galloway....

I think it would be interesting to see politics move away from the centre, if labour lurch to left it opens up a gap on the right. I want to see some genuine right wing politics.

Surely you believe that's the case anyway.

I'd like to think so, but a bit of insurance wouldn't go amiss.
