Rincewind Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Good speech. Surprised at the difference in percentages.
Sir Fynwy Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Political Party for sale. £3, no offers. Corbyn got 121751 votes from full members, Burnham was next with 55698. Bore off
Lionator Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 They won't be, as Bilo has said realistic Corbyn will be long gone by 2020. The scrutiny he'll be under now will be huge and given the company he keeps a huge scandal can't be too far away. Deep down I bet you're petrified.
Guest MattP Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Always wanted to see the 1970's - glad I'm going to get the chance.
sphericalfox Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Always wanted to see the 1970's - glad I'm going to get the chance. Haha. We've got the Tory's right now wtf are you talking about!
Claridge Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Next year, after the local elections. I almost feel sorry for genuine labour supporters who have had their party hijacked by rent a mob. The Tories do need a strong opposition to hold them to account and at the moment its looking unlikely
Guest Bilo Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Corbyn got 121751 votes from full members, Burnham was next with 55698. Bore off As a member, I know that party members aren't necessarily active. Most people I've spoken to who knock on doors for Labour feel that Corbyn wasn't the man to turn the UKIPpers and Soft Tories back towards Labour.
Guest MattP Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Hope they play Michael Jackson's Earth Song after this speech and Corbyn holds his hands in Jesus Christ style pose.
Guest Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Good speech. Surprised at the difference in percentages. He speaks remarkably well. Not polished or media trained like most of the puppets either.
Wymsey Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 If Labour go as left as possible, during Corbyn's reign (which I think it will), many people will want the government to be Conservative-led.
Mark_w Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Always wanted to see the 1970's - glad I'm going to get the chance. I think you've hammered that point home well enough now Matt.
Guest Bilo Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Corbyn also got 87% of the £3ers. If not for the Registered and Affiliated Supporters, he wouldn't have won on the first round. He'd have been just short at around 49% if not for them, which would certainly have made this look less of a landslide.
Claridge Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 As a member, I know that party members aren't necessarily active. Most people I've spoken to who knock on doors for Labour feel that Corbyn wasn't the man to turn the UKIPpers and Soft Tories back towards Labour. I was surprised at the amount of people who were registered to vote but didn't
Guest MattP Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 One massive plus point here is we could have a Labour leader advocating leaving the European Union next year. That referendum is going to be even more interesting. Looking forward to the shadow cabinet now.
sphericalfox Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Hope they play Michael Jackson's Earth Song after this speech and Corbyn holds his hands in Jesus Christ style pose. That sounds good but more likely to play this, acoustic hipster style:
johnny the fox Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 It does make me laugh that the Tories on this forum are predicting a big collapse from Labour now, but as someone who has never voted Labour before (Voted conservative in 2010, and Lib Dem this year), I'd be much more likely to vote for a Labour with Corbyn in charge than any of the other candidates. I know many people that feel the same way. He's a little left-wing for my liking, but it's refreshing to have a genuine choice now, and someone with a little back-bone and conviction. The other candidates were spineless weather vanes, which seem to give whatever opinion seems to be popular at the time. If he can keep his party in line, he may not be the big disaster that people are predicting. your assuming people who think this is a historical mistake are Tories... not always the case.. The Labour party has just laid a egg ..its not good for democracy in this country in the long run..
Guest Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Political Party for sale. £3, no offers. Get over it. He won in every area of the voting and he won big. Go to a corner think about what you want and then come back as a labour supporter or go to another party. I think you'll find that your beliefs are no so different from Corbyn's.
Guest MattP Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Jamie Reed resigns from Labour front bench.
Rincewind Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 59% is not a minority and sends a message out to the rest of the party. He wants to unite the party not split it and also wants to reach out to the young. He will be saying things other Labour MP's will be afraid to say fearing for their seat. Someone just saying there is only so much personal attacks by the Tories the public will stand. They will bring up the past and go over the same ground but Corbyn is not the sort of person to buckle under pressure. He will stick to his guns and principles as well as highlighting the Tory bad points. When the dust settles the rest of the party will come round and support him.
Harry - LCFC Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Corbyn got 121751 votes from full members, Burnham was next with 55698. Bore off Really?! I'm surprised. Well if that's the case I think I'd have to accept that it's a legitimate victory given that entryism didn't win it for him.
Guest Kopfkino Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 It's once again a case where the left think they know what the public wants better than the public know themselves. But then socialism is built on a bunch of lefties telling people what they want and spending their money for them
Guest Bilo Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Get over it. He won in every area of the voting and he won big. Go to a corner think about what you want and then come back as a labour supporter or go to another party. I think you'll find that your beliefs are no so different from Corbyn's. Actually, he only got 49% from full members. The 87% he got from the £3ers made a huge difference. I've said before that I agree with what a great deal of what he says, but I'm not the kind of person he has to convince. It'll be very interesting to see how many of the £3ers who've made a huge difference to the result actually join the party and do anything for it.
Guest MattP Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Least if he does the full term we'll never have to hear that nonsense again about how Labour didn't we because they weren't left wing enough.
Guest Bilo Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 One massive plus point here is we could have a Labour leader advocating leaving the European Union next year. That referendum is going to be even more interesting. Looking forward to the shadow cabinet now. If there's a sniff of Corbyn advocating leaving the EU, the MPs will have the knives well and truly sharpened. That's without taking into account the local elections next year, which will be the first big test. It's far from certain that Corbyn will even be in charge in 2017.
Guest Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Jamie Reed resigns from Labour front bench. Good. Go join the tories! Having different opinions put out there is important for politics. I don't think the Labour party will win the next election, I don't think it would've with the other candidates either but what it will do is get the Tories and liberals to speak about areas of politics that they wouldn't have had to otherwise. It gives the poor and needy a point to rally around and hope and the will to vote. Corbyn is great for politics and political discussion in the UK. I also think the Tories and the media are totally wrong in the idea that labour are going far left, they will move a little left and will talk about subjects that will make the tories and liberals make a stance. I'm chuffed for Britain. Let's hope the other parties can now sort themselves out and make politics interesting and worthwhile. Liberals need to make their stance clear next. Tories and their supporters are all mouth, they won't feel as good as they think.
