bovril Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 Great first six, we could be well inside the top half by the end of that? Maybe even dream of a Peter Taylor type top of league scenario. Liverpool away on boxing day brings back great memories. 96? Kaamark marking McManaman out of the game?
Guest MattP Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 96? Kaamark marking McManaman out of the game? That's sounds about right, I'd never seen a City end like it, everyone was pissed. Finished 1-1 when Collymore equalised for them in injury time. Our end went absolutely mental when we scored, took the lead on about 82 minutes I think through Claridge.
aefevans Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 Guess which team has these four games over the space of 15 days: 19 December: Liverpool (H) 26 December: Chelsea (A) 28 December: Tottenham (H) 2 January: Man City (H) Fortunately, our end-of-season run-in looks relatively forgiving, and it seems to be then where it counts.

It's a massive thing to have, ideally I think you want teams around midtable at home, those sorts who are on the beach. After Sunderland last year and us this year, even teams who are 7-9pts adrift in March won't be losing faith if they have a half decent run in.
BoyJones Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 Looks like a well balanced fixture list, happy with it. December on paper looks a tough month, but that's what we fought hard for this April / May to ensure we play in these type of games.
luke the fox Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 Bizarre rule. It's almost like the PL don't like the fans very much. My google Calendar has already updated with the fixtures, which pushes them to my phone, and allows me to embed the calendar on a website, I wonder if that is covered by Google paying the fee... How have you managed to sink them? That would be very useful.
4everfox Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 I'd expect 7 points from the August fixtures at a bare minimum. Win against Sunderland, lose against West Ham, draw against Tottenham and win against Bournemouth.
ScouseFox Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 We've gotta hit the ground running then, can't be dropping too many points in "easy" games early on or we'll be on the back foot from the start. Last few games and Christmas look a bit, err, tricky.
sly1 Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 Liverpool away boxing day good god.dont like the end of season running
Bert Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 Except Bournemouth v Villa clashes with better fixtures elsewhere whereas our visit doesn't. It's a hunch anyway. Doesn't matter. They'll have 5 on over the weekend. Saturday 12:45 Saturday 5:30 Sunday 1:30 Sunday 4:00 Monday 8:00. You'd expect Chelsea to be on as they're champions, United Spurs as its a "big" game. Would be surprised should they not have any of the promoted teams on - especially Bournemouth purely for the story.

Bert Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 We also avoid all the Europa League moved matches, West Ham, Southampton are both the week after our visits, Liverpool is Boxing Day and Spurs is in January. Not necessarily a good thing. Europa league participants league record after a Thursday night game is less than desirable for some reason. Not relevant to this quote but I would bet good Money our home fixture versus United is a sky game. They'll be all over it after last season.
bluesbrothers Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 I'm still struggling to see why people are worried about Everton at home for our run-in. While they won't be as lacklustre as this past season, they hardly strike fear into me. Our run-in is fine: United and Chelsea will be tough, but Everton is winnable. And before Swansea, who would themselves need to turn up (see our run-in this year for what a pushover they are if they don't) we've got a very tidy run of games against teams you'd expect to be in and around us. December is the real dog-month, but two or three from that and I'll be dead happy. We'll be fine.
Rincewind Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 They are all tricky. We just have to pick up points at the right time. Easier said than done. If we discount the top six there are still 26 winnable games. Going on home and away average WH DA that is a possible 52 points so we can only afford to lose 10-14 points from those. Is this summary about right? 26 may be too many but I'm thinking of mid table teams where results can go either way. The middle mini league. I bet someone could have a good guess at the top 6 the middle 7 and bottom 7 in any order. At the very least we should aim for the middle section.
AyewJoking Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 I'll be looking no further than the first match. Win that and move on.
Rincewind Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 Wouldnt mind the 2nd game being on TV. Up in Yorkshire that weekend no RL.
Guest Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 reckon we'll be top of the league at the end of September!

Churchill Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 West Ham (A) to be on TV, Millwall play Coventry at home on the same day and I can see them moving our game rather than a league 1 game!
Bert Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 What we must do this year is take points from the teams around us more. From memory we didn't do the double over anyone last season? Please correct me if I'm wrong. I know the back end of our season was solid but missed out on points at home against teams like Burnley, Palace, Stoke, West Brom. You'd expect us to get more than 1 point from those games at least looking at the fixture on paper. (I know we beat 3/4 of these away but our success towards the end of last season shown us how vital home form is)

ScouseFox Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 Yeah being better at home is a must. The run in was great but didn't we go a good 4 months where we barely even had a shot at home let alone won a game. Against teams like palace, hull, west brom, Sunderland etc etc.

I'd expect us to do much better this year.
