I mentioned the other week that a Villa fan was laughing at us and our situation, tbh i'm not sure he has much ground to do that when you look at their situation, I think they are the laughing stock of the summer but when I try and take a step back, try and take an unbiased view and think 'what would I make of the situation if I was a fan of another club' and we aren't far behind them.

They won't be keeping much of an eye on our potential transfer targets though.  If some of the deals being talked about come off I imagine people will start viewing us differently.

Granted, although personally whilst I am believing the hype of Kante and Aranguiz if i'm honest i've never heard of them, I am reasonably excited about the prospect but only because of what i've read on here which is going to biased and big the idea up (And so they should) - So would imagine people who aren't Leicester fans would have a similar view.

Maybe i've been an ostrich with the two but I honestly have never heard of them, I just hope they are as good as people have hyped them up to be should they sign - And I understand we were in for Kante before Pearson was sacked so before anyone suggests i'm being pessimistic because of the sacking of Pearson/appointment of Ranieri it's not because i'd have had the same comments should Pearson have still been here.

If other fans base the opinion that we'll go down on the fact they haven't heard of our players then it doesn't really matter anyway tbh.

We've lost one player and signed three

And it looks like we've all but signed Kante

Yeah - lost our best player, and the 2 new players look like they'll take some time to settle. Add to that our core looks very weak and there's reason to be concerned. If Kante signs then good - that's 1 of 3 new players needed...as I alluded to. But he's not signed yet..

Doesn`t matter what the national media or ex footballer pundits think.

Most of them seem to be waiting,  almost hopeing that Ranieri falls on his arse for some reason, but what do they really know about us in truth?

The square root of fvck all, because they are not in the least bit interested in us, and it`s so easy to just have us down for relegation.

In my opinion, i think we will surprise a few people this season, maybe even some of our own fans.

I certainly don`t see us being in a relegation battle all season, in fact i think we will be very comfortably safe well before the end of the season.

I can see more why we're being considered this year because as a 14th placed finishing team who just sacked their manager, replacing him with one who many have (fairly in my opinion) described as the anti-Pearson, it's not hard to see why people aren't convinced by us. I don't think we've got one of the weakest three squads, but the overall direction of us as a team is very much unknown at the minute.

It annoyed me last year more because people were just kissing QPR's arse despite them taking pretty much the exact same attitude that failed them a few years ago, all because they were a London club managed by a media whore, signing supposedly 'profile' players, ignoring the fact we were a far better side the year before. As it happened, for ages it looked like a lot of the critics would be right about us but I still don't think they called it for the right reasons, so I'm still not giving them any credit. Oh and I said we'd come 14th so up yours to the lot of them :D

No offence, but isnt this thread yet another variation on the same theme?

The pundits are paid for their punditry. They will speculate on the chances of every team in the supposed 'mini-league' of relegation candidates.Just like this forum with so much conjecture over the summer re. why Nigel was sacked, whether Cambiasso should have stayed, why midfielders arent signing. Etc etc etc..

It's all conjecture. Very few peoplehave provided concrete facts or information to back-up their arguments.

Personally, I think this:

We've had a GOOD pre-season. We've not lost a game (I dont think?), the lads appear quite happy in training, Ranieri has given some sensible and humble interviews.

We have added to the squad - though I do agree we need to strengthen in the middle.

We've retained our key players. NONE of them have been sold.

I'm gonna wait for a few games, actually watch the lads with my own eyes, THEN start to formulate views on our chances of doing ok this season.

Give it a few games and we'll be able to assess our team, our playing style, our confidence etc AND be able to compare that with the other squads in the division.

It wont happen that way though will it? If we lose on Saturday, there will be another round of 'Pearson shouldnt have left', that we are 'going down' 'doomed' etc.

I make the point once more...if we are not bottom at Christmas, we'll be doing better than at the same time last season.

Balls to all the pundits. Who cares?

I'm excited at seeing what we can do and will express some sort of view after at least a few games.

I'm cautiously optimistic. If we can get a good start in the first few games (West Ham especially) I think we may just be a surprise package this season. If we are flying high come Christmas the January window will be interesting as I think we'll be a little more noticeable. I also think Raneiri has a lot riding on this job and very much wants to prove his pedigree.

The Sunday Times this morning is laughable.

Their predictions:

LCFC: 20th

Watford: 19th

Norwich: 18th

Villa: 17th

Bournemouth: 16th

Newcastle: 16th (I know, appears to be a mistake, there is no 15th listed))

Sunderland: 14th

Southampton:13th

WBA: 12th

I suspect they are on crack...

Oh, and these predictions are next to a large "news" article doing to Bournemouth and Eddie Howe what that Thai lady did to Tom Hopper.

I despair.

They are paid for their punditry. They could actually bother to do some research too. Comments like "Andy King wouldn't fit into a possession-based game" and "Ranieri's track record make them favourites for relegation". What!?

If they don't think the squad is good enough, fine. If the defence is suspect at set-pieces, if we are too laboured in midfield, too erratic at finishing- if they are the views then there's some logic to it.

The jist of what I've seen is that Ranieri's appointment = relegation. It will be tight this season and we'll be in the group of teams near the bottom but plenty of articles last season said we should get rid of Pearson and replace him for the good of the club. We've done that so why the complete writing off now?

We're an unknown quantity.

We were terrible for much of the season, then absolutely sensational for the final 9 games. At the moment it's difficult to assess which Leicester was the 'real' one. On top of that we've sacked a manager who has brought us much success and lost our player of the season. So I am not in the least bit surprised (or bothered) that the press have s down to struggle.

Have you noticed the 4 teams predicted to finish above us are all further to the south?

The other side of this point being, we were not "terrible" just not getting results, have only lost ONE player from that quite stunning end of season run have the same coaching staff on the touchline, IF Claudio has the full backing and respect of the players and has them motivated why on earth should we struggle ?

Posted

We've also made an enormous upgrade tactically on Pearson. Not a chance that Ranieri will be able to summon the sort of Dunkirk Spirit we saw at the end of last season but with some proper tactical nous on the touchline hopefully things won't get that desperate in the first place.

Posted

We are competent, team spirit clearly still there and have two or three players capable of big transfers come next summer.

There's worse in the division I can say with confidence.
