Rincewind Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 Bad and good start to hols. Found out on the train Sheffield to York that my Senior citizen railcard was out of date. Had to pay excess then renew my card in York. 30 quid on top. Then when I got to the hotel there was noone in reception. There was a not on the door saying she was out until 5ish. I went to the Mended Drum but they were just closing. The landlord because I had a conversion with about coming because of the name said I could stay and gave me a sample of all the real ales he had on seven of them and described each one in detail. Then when he opened just before five I got a message via the pub (my phone had no signal) that the note on the door of the reception was an envoloe with my room key inside. It turned out OK tho. She went out because of her young child and seems a pleasant person. Rooms Ok. I have internet and just going out for food and more beer so not so bad. CANT BE BOTHERED TO READ REST OF THE POSTS. or reytpe the caps.
JamesO Posted 13 August 2015 Posted 13 August 2015 My A Levels didn't go well. . Still got to University though

Or if your a NatWest fan, a national express coach card.

Devonfox1884 Posted 14 August 2015 Posted 14 August 2015 Drama-B English lit-C Maths-E Physics-U Surprised I passed maths, bit frustrates with my English tbh, teacher said my coursework was an A, but it came out as a C. Only 1 mark off an A in Drama too. Let's just say the results day party last night was more memorable (for those who do remember) than the results for most people

The system I went through required marks of at least 60% to pass each individual exam. If the (weighted) aggregated score of your 7 subjects came below that you'd be held back a year.

Pretty sure in A levels it goes U E D C B A. E = 40% D = 50% C = 60% B = 70% A =80 % A* = 90% Anything below 40%/E grade is a U grade I think.

I should've stayed in the UK, wouldn't have failed a single subject in my final year with that system! No wonder we're churning out so many young geniuses with good grades.

No wonder we're churning out so many young geniuses with good grades. It means lower scores still get a grade, it doesn't affect the higher grades (I don't think, has an A always been 80%?)

E grade might be a pass but if you want to go to a top 20 uni most pupils will need something along the lines of BBC/BBB/ABB upwards.

Tbh I'm more shocked that those at the lower end are given what is essentially a participation award for doing poorly instead of being held back a year to work on their faults. Nobody enjoys being a little older than the rest of their classmates but the nation as a whole would be massively better off instead of releasing a load of undereducated adults with the entitlement of 'passing' their schooling into the workforce.
Stadt Posted 14 August 2015 Posted 14 August 2015 That's what I'm going to do, obviously I won't carry on with the sciences so I'll pick up a subject (probably ICT) and stay on for an extra year to get a full a level in it. Besides, a year of a 4 hour school week doesn't sound that bad.
Devonfox1884 Posted 14 August 2015 Posted 14 August 2015 Yeah, I'm the same as Wookie really, I'll be staying on a 3rd year so as I've got a set of 4 solid grades at the end of it all. Easy to say in hindsight, bid I should never have taken maths & physics...
