Finnegan Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 <post> I don't think we inherently disagree, as I alluded to earlier, I have just as much a problem with social media moral crusaders as I do with the closet bigots crying every two minutes that everything is "PC GONE MAD!" My stance is firmly one of balance, I think the issue is blown ridiculously out of proportion by both camps and I'm fed up of sitting in the middle thinking both sides are stupid. Every time (and I will admit it happens drastically more on this forum than in "real life") some pratt reels off the "PCgonemad" rant I want to throw my laptop at them (it's ****ing heavy) until they bleed and equally I'd happily bludgeon to shit some of the soppy, washed up invertebrates the Guardian life magazine pull out of obscurity to write wet diatribe about how this month's Jeremy Clarkson is such a meany. I think why it exasperates me the most, though, is that I know it just isn't a huge issue. Students have always been a whiny bunch of faux-protest, attention-seeking, self-impressed ****s. The current crop are no different, they just don't have any major ills in the world to protest so they're turning on "racists" and "bigots" because it's the latest thing to crusade about. It's not really a massive social evil, though, is it? If you don't want to be trolled on social media, you don't HAVE to be on Twitter antagonizing the herd. If you don't want to be heckled at student unions, you don't HAVE to play them. People want to pile on the hyperbole and make out that moral censorship is currently at it's peak but look around you. Frankie Boyle and Ricky Gervais are all over terrestrial, prime-time TV, Quentin Tarantino is still making smash-hit films, Jeremy Clarkson just got an even more massive deal than the one he had at the BBC, NUTS, Zoo, FHM, Front (oh god, Front <3), the Sun and the Sport are all in touching distance in every corner shop and **** knows what else. All of these things are complained about, moaned about, written about, editorial'd about and protested against by the "moral army" but none of them are actually in threat of going anywhere, are they? They're all massively popular, massively successful and massively appealing to the masses. Most of us are rude as **** and we're not under threat from a tiny minority of moaning pricks. Yes, people are tip-toeing around what language they use and who they hire in the world of business but that's got nothing to do with political correctness and everything to do with the very American practice of suing the shit out of everything that moves that's sprung up over here. "Wah, I'm so offended that you did or didn't do X because I'm Y or Z - but I'll feel a hell of a lot better when you shell out a few thousand/million quid - funny that." That's the culture. These people aren't offended they didn't get a job because they've got a foot missing, they're a bit darker than you, they're gay or they're female - they just know controversy brings profit. Basically, what I'm trying to say is, this is all Jordan's fault. Bastard.
Claridge Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 Do you mean Adolf Hitler who topped himself in 1945? Did he ban them in Nazi Germany well before 1958 then? Hitler was also against animal cruelty, I'm sure I read, bringing in laws to completely ban animal cruelty and neglect. Was a vegan .bloody leftie if you ask me
BoneDog Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 This is the kind of alive and kicking racism that is really vile. The kind of stuff in the op doesn't even register on the racism scale compared to the women in these videos. What comes out of these two ho's mouth's is quite unbelievable. (2nd video gets interesting once she puts phone down after 1 minute)
Raw Dykes Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 post Thanks for the reply. A lot of it rang true, and it helped me realise that while it is still a problem, it probably isn't quite as big as it is in my mind. When you think about how much power they actually wield, judging by how much has changed since they've been around, it can't be all that much. Yet, at least. I thought you might have had me down as something I'm not after my first post, and it was like you must have thought I was over on the right, when really I'm standing next to you, and pointing to a problem on the left of us both, and nearly everyone else. You're right - I think issues can get exaggerated in your brain if you don't choose the input you give it wisely. If you spent a lot of time on Tumblr, you'd probably eventually see the white man as Beelzebub, just as if you spent all day on Stormfront, you might start to believe there's a Jewish conspiracy ruling the globe. Then you go outside for a while and it dawns on you that things aren't anywhere near as bad as they said they were. I do still think it is certainly something to watch out for, however. I predict that it will get worse before there's a substantial push back against it. I think I've definitely been taking a lot more notice of "progressives" (if ever there was a misnomer) than I have of the "PC gone mad" types lately - I've probably been absent from this forum too long.
Carl the Llama Posted 19 August 2015 Posted 19 August 2015 I saw something two days ago that I had no idea had happened. I didn't know that we used to have human zoos with black folk on show up until 1958 in Europe and the US, with Hitler being the man to ban them. I mean, wtf is that all about! (the zoo part starts 1/3rd down the page with the paragraph "One example...") http://www.globalresearch.ca/europes-forgotten-history-from-human-zoos-to-human-trophies-displayed-in-colonial-museums/5469488 It's good to see that society began to change and not accept these things, but I doubt many of the so-called elite changed their outlooks. It's interesting you mention that, not 2 days ago just down the road from me in a small township called Tervuren, part of the Brussels suburbs, I passed a church with 7 (iirc) unmarked stones on one side of it with a small plaque declaring it to be the final resting place of the Congolese villagers who "didn't survive" the 1958 Brussels expo where they'd been displayed as part of a human zoo. One of the most despicable things I've ever stumbled across, I can't believe it's not a more widely acknowledged part of history (though at the same time I can believe it entirely).
Manwell Pablo Posted 19 August 2015 Posted 19 August 2015 Even though it's true? You tell an Italian or Spaniard that they dive and they don't even take offence. They just accept it as a part of their game. If he gets in any kind of trouble for it then it's an absolute joke. It is double standards though, Ashley Young. The comment isn't offensive to me I do find it inaccurate though plenty of English players dive.
Rincewind Posted 20 August 2015 Posted 20 August 2015 It is true that a lot of players dive in the course of a game and there are some that do it more often than others, but it is not true that all foregners dive as 'typical foreigner' implies.. See the difference?
Raw Dykes Posted 21 September 2015 Posted 21 September 2015 Anyone seen the latest South Park episode? If not, I urge you to. https://youtu.be/nY7ceIVJnfg
Guest MattP Posted 22 September 2015 Posted 22 September 2015 Anyone seen the latest South Park episode? If not, I urge you to. https://youtu.be/nY7ceIVJnfg I watched this episode last week, absolutely tremendous television. South Park yet again nailed it. The scene of Kyle getting a standing ovation from the "tolerance brigade" after finally announcing that Caitlin Jenner is a hero while having cocks drawn on him, his head shaved, a tree driven into him and his house vandalised was as priceless as it gets.

I watched this last night. I was crying. South Park just gets better and better.
