Were you born in the 80s?

I was born in the 60s. The only decade cooler than the 80s.

How much of the 60s do you remember, though, Webbo?

As I recall, I'm a couple of years older than you (born 1962) and my key memories of the 60s are:

- Nov 1965: Got distraught when I thought the guy being thrown on the bonfire was my Dad

- 1966: A lady told me off for just eating the jam out of my doughnut (she was joking, but I took it seriously)

- 1967: Being introduced to my new baby brother and him pissing all over me (he's still a pain in the arse now!)

- 1967: Special playgroup outing to play poohsticks as were now big boys & girls

- 1967: Met my Irish Grandpa for the only time I can remember (he took me to the creamery and bought me a top-range "Rocket" lolly); puked up on my Irish Grandma's floor.

- 1968: Refused to go and show off some good work to the big boys & girls as I wanted to stay and listen to the story in infants class

- 1969: Played a proper football match for the first time; told a big boy that I didn't like Francis Lee as he was "a fouler", then felt guilty as I knew that I was bullshitting; another big boy kicked one of those heavy leather footballs against my thigh, making my eyes water, then shouted at me for getting in the way

- 1969: Started to enjoy looking at girls' knickers when they did handstands (perving starts early for some).

I don't remember The Beatles, Swinging London, the Kennedy Assassination, England winning the World Cup, Woodstock, the Moon Landing or the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I do have vague memories of silly teenage girls wafting about in maxi skirts, with hair to their waists, thinking they were in a Leonard Cohen song....even of saucy mini-skirts...and blokes with long-hair, mutton-chop sideburns and purple bell-bottoms, thinking they looked cool - and lads doing "the skinhead/suedehead dance", but I suspect that was the early 70s as stuff takes a few years to reach the provinces.

For me, the 80s were post-punk, Two-Tone, Thatcher, Inter-Rail, Folkestone Town FC, John Peel, hitching around Europe, mass unemployment, Pogues, Mekons, Public Enemy, Miners' Strike, Once Upon a Time in America, Jesus & Mary Chain, Reggae Sunsplash, Betty Blue, Blue Velvet, picking grapes, washing dishes, discovering Jean Renoir & Francois Truffaut, Unbearable Lightness of Being, Ken LIvingstone's GLC, mooning around after completely unsuitable women and spending most of the decade pissed out of my head making an idiot out of myself.... I don't recognise this vision of Duran Duran & Yuppies that represents the 80s at "80s Revival Nights"

I was born in the 70s. A far cooler decade than the 80s - although I did spend most of my childhood growing up in the 80s. And the early 90s as a man in my late teens was really quite excellent!

They do say if you remember the 60's you didn't live it. August 69 for me and I can't remember a thing

I remember being at nursery school which must have been in the 60s, not much else if I'm honest.

That's me on the left.

why is the kid on the right almost isolated from you and the other lad?

I don't remember. If you look at the kid next to me he's wearing wellies. It was a long time ago.

Im nowhere as old as Webbo, plus where's the turban

I didn't wear a turban until I started big school.

83.

Obviously my genuine memories of the decade are limited.

For me, it would be:

* Old fashioned tellies

* Red and grey things

* Ford Orions and Sierras

* Ghetto blasters

* A hurricane

* The smell of tobacco smoke being the norm

* Remnant yellow and orange things from the 70s

* Four telly channels

* Women with bouffant hair
