Arriba Los Zorros Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 Even if we don't win it, I think finishing 2nd or 3rd constitutes our greatest achievement ever. Forget about the League Cups and play-off victories, and when we finished 2nd years and years ago. This run of 3 years under Pearson and Ranieri - destroying the Championship, greatest of great escapes last season, and a top 3 finish at very least this season - is what we can start to call an 'era'. Now I hope we can create some history, and as a fanbase stop looking back to the MON years which were a high point but not so high we can never surpass them and move on.
richardsfoxes Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 Whenever i think of us over the past 16 years and this season i think of Andy dufresne from Shawshank crawling through shit to finally get here.
Thracian Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 I've flown the flag for some of our 60s achievements and marvelled at the kamikaze's of the MON days but today's team is arguably ecplising or starting to eclipse them both. Either qualifying for Champions League football or winning the Premiership title would be by far the greatest achievement of our history but there's potential for much more to follow after that. And so many memorable moments along the way already. I've honestly always believed it could happen - and said so sometimes - but I did start wondering if I'd live to see it.
m4DD0gg Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 I think so, Little's was pretty good, Mon's was exceptional and delivered silverware and europe but this is something on a whole different level.
ithuriel Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 If we win this and then go on to win the Charity shield, then yes but we are not quite there yet. This is just the beginning, hopefully.
smr Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 Easily, in a word. Since my first match at Filbert St. aged 7 in '91. Some great memories from that time but the one that stands out the most is the Brian Little and MON era with the MON era pipping it. Great days at Wembley, I remember watching the TV in 92' against Blackburn where my Dad went without me and feeling a bit left out that I couldn't go - but to go a year later and see us play Swindon, even though we lost, was a day I'll never forget - especially that come back, what an atmosphere... after that - lots of great highs - beating Derby at Wembley etc. and lots of lows, then highs, then real lows etc. the MON era and getting us into Europe was tremendous - he was the messiah. But - this time it's just absolutely out of this world. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we'd ever be in this position with it looking such a brilliant possibility we're gonna do this. Winning the Premier League is the ultimate - bigger than winning the Champions League for me. I've got goosebumps as I type. If we do win this, Claudio will pip all the managers we've ever had since at least that first game I ever attended against Bristol Rovers: Kevin Poole Defender/Centre back Paul Fitzpatrick Defender/Centre back Richard Smith Defender/Centre back Steve Walsh Defender/Midfielder Colin Gibson Midfielder Gary Mills Midfielder Steve Thompson Midfielder Tommy Wright Midfielder/Forward David Oldfield Forward Colin Gordon Forward Paul Kitson Tommy Wright - he was the Jamie Vardy of that era!
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 I think this could be the beginning of one of the best era's in the club's history with what the club's foundations currently are. I'm hoping so!
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 NearlyThisWe are nearly there but best to keep it zipped until we're over the finishing line
Great Boos Up Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 my first match at Filbert St. aged 7 in '91. Kids today eh? Spoilt rotten!
LanguedocFox Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 What about the Gillies era we were favourites for the double robbed by injuries for the league and above all it was not unexpected we were in the running . When were Man u regarded as underdogs in a cup final as they were against us /. On the financial front Lenny Glover was a world record fee for a winger. When we are regarded as a top cup we will have arrived hopefully soon. I don't think we were regarded as a top club in the Gillies era, even though we had that chance in 1963 at the Double. Most of that decade we were mid-table (couple of eighth places at best) but we never sat at the top table.
le4foxforever Posted 4 April 2016 Posted 4 April 2016 That moment when ian marshall put us 0 -1 up against athletico madrid in the uefa cup at half time. Magic.

I said to a friend last year that I doubted if I'd ever see Leicester win the FA Cup in my lifetime To be in with a shout of actually winning the league is beyond my wildest imaginings

Guest Col city fan Posted 5 April 2016 Posted 5 April 2016 I'd have to answer yes. I never thought I'd see the O'Neil teams surpassed in my lifetime. This team has done. To get into the Champions League, let alone possibly win the title, is a ridiculous achievement.
