weller54 Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 ...are we witnessing the greatest period in our history?... Feels that great things are about to unfold!
Lionator Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 If we win a trophy in the next couple of seasons then yes.
deejdeej Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 It's the most entertaining time for me by a long shot. I'm like a kid at Christmas on the way to every match!
Dan Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 If we win the FA Cup this season then I think it is.
Izzy Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 ...are we witnessing the greatest period in our history?... Feels that great things are about to unfold! Not until we have regular trips to Wembley again and the odd night in Madrid. 'Great things, may be about to unfold but we ain't won owt yet, and have a long way to go until we can compare this period with the MON years.
The Blur Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 Come on, three successive top ten finishes, two cup wins and some Europe action in late nineties against what 14th place finish last season? Way too premature.
Harry - LCFC Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 No. It may become the greatest era in our history but it's a distance away yet.
Sampson Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 Early 60s - 4 cup finals in 4 years and a genuine title challenge. Late 1920s - 2 genuine title challenges. Until we start reaching cup finals and challenging for the PL title, then no, clearly not. Not by a long shot.
big stodge Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 Not quite there yet. But the way things are going ...... who knows !
Raw Dykes Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 It's hard to say. I do think this might be the best Leicester City squad there's ever been, but standards have improved a lot over the years, so it's harder to win trophies than it was. The current side could have won a lot of silverware if they could be taken back in time, but then the same goes for pretty much every club, I think.
Fatbloke Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 In many ways yes, the structure of the club, stability, the quality of the players we are now bringing in etc etc, Football wise there have been better times in terms of Wembley visits, winning things and European adventures but a lot of this happened amidst a background of uncertainty, internecine warfare and will he go will he stay situations, I feel happier being a City fan right now than I ever have and make of that what you will.
Kitchandro Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 An era needs to be a few seasons long, for starters. Secondly we're going to have to finish in the top half consistently and win the FA Cup (or the league cup 3 times).
HitchinFox Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 Certainly exciting, but a long way from the 60s (including this: http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2011/oct/06/forgotten-story-leicester-city-ice-kings) and the MoN eras. That's not to say that we aren't currently experiencing the beginning of what COULD be the best ever era in our history. It's simply too early to say. But as Ranieri said – as fans it's our prerogative to dream. And I'm dreaming. So I'm going for yes, Yes it is!COYF!
Fatbloke Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 As I said though, all brilliant ON the field but off it ????? will he go to Everton, will he go to Leeds, could the staff have mobile phones, the whole club behind the scenes was a bluddy shambles !!
inckley fox Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 Come on, three successive top ten finishes, two cup wins and some Europe action in late nineties against what 14th place finish last season? Way too premature. Four successive I think! It's possible that we're in the early stages of a great era, but as a club we've been a top flight outfit trying to find its feet many, many times. Whether this era turns out to be an exception, like the Hodge / Orr era that my granddad always banged on about, or - to an extent - the Gillies / O'Farrell / Bloomfield periods from my dad's time, or even the resurgence under Little / O'Neill when I was a kid, only time will tell. I'd like to think it could surpass all of them. Or it could be a false dawn, like the Milne era or other sides which promised a lot and fell away - look up managers like Johnson, Womack and Bullock on the History section of Foxestalk. The names from the great eras are etched into your consciousness as City fans. Black, Chandler, Hine, Adcock, Dougan, Banks, Shilton, McLintock, Appleton, Worthington, Glover. Weller, Izzet, Lennon, Walsh, Elliott.. but we're only talking about a sum total of 25 or 30 years from a 130 year league history. So you've got to hope that some of those great names will one day be overshadowed by Mahrez and Vardy and whoever else. There's a way to go yet, but who knows?
Fox92 Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 No. We played in five Cup Finals during the 60s.
foxoffderby Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 Its a strange feeling going to matches at the moment. I feel confident and I don't fear anybody thats never happened before.
davieG Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 As I said though, all brilliant ON the field but off it ????? will he go to Everton, will he go to Leeds, could the staff have mobile phones, the whole club behind the scenes was a bluddy shambles !! It wasn't a shambles off the field in the 606 even under MON it wasn't for the whole of his era. We've finished 14th once to paraphrase we ain't achieved nothing yet.
Raw Dykes Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 No. We played in five Cup Finals during the 60s. We finished 3rd and 2nd in the top flight in the 20's, as well.
shade Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 We finished 3rd and 2nd in the top flight in the 20's, as well. did you have a season ticket?
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 ...are we witnessing the greatest period in our history?... Feels that great things are about to unfold! Calm down. We've had one great run to miraculously avoid relegation and a good start from a favourable opening set of fixtures.
Vacamion Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 Good grief. No. If we lose away at Stoke, I await the 'we are poo' 'Claudio out' threads.
Wymsey Posted 16 September 2015 Posted 16 September 2015 Best time to be a fan (in my living years) has to be when we won the Worthington Cup. Still get goosebumps from it.
