Where Will Nigel Pearson Go Next?

Absolutely no question I agree but the top quality team comment was directed at the likes of your Chelseas, Arsenals, Man Citys and lets be honest, Pearson won't manage at that level. I love the man but I'm not blinded by it.

Alright apologies misinterpreted what you said, I agree its unlikely since he is English

He was taking pressure off in a media sense way, that's for sure. His antics allowed his team to continue out of the limelight, focused and willing to tackle the task ahead.

lol, admit he was acting like a tit, honestly.

I never have linked the great escape with how Pearson portrayed himself in the media. The great escape was about signing Huth and changing the formation, not about whether Pearson called a reporter an Ostrich or did a bit of wrestling with an opposition player on the touch line.

Pearson always was a good manager of men. What he wasn't was very media savvy or friendly. Some people say he did this on purpose? I don't think he did. I think he was under pressure and it showed.

I do think there's a degree of Pearson knowing how he was portrayed. I think he kind of thrives on it.

Our long term plan seems to be staying in this league under an embargo lol. Mel has thrown his toys out the pram now he's sacked Clement, Mel - "promotion not a priority" -- I mean ffs mate you've spent 25m quid so what is the priority, he didn't just spend it to sit f****** around in this league surely, oh its that Derby way he talks about, fast slick passing, high pressure, high tempo, high line swashbuckling style of football, we can try that but we aren't Barcelona... but I don't think he knows what he wants after this week, promotion or sexy football or both who knows haha. one thing is certain, Pearson is the right man for the job but would need Mel to stay out the dressing room.

Playing a high line is very risky if you aren't that good either. It's alright being Barcelona because they've got the kind of quality that allows you to get away with it. It's what makes me laugh about the way people slag us off at times this season. You get Spurs fans slagging off the way we play just because we don't play a style of play that they're quite blatantly going to rip into. Barcelona are unique. No-one will emulate them. If Guardiola can't do it with the next best side in the world after Barcelona then I don't know why the rest are bothering.

I think you are both right.

It was a very clever and sacrificial move and it worked.

Someone will be saying that the 3 months we spent at the bottom of the league was all part of a brilliant masterplan soon.

What self-respecting football fan actually cares about his relationship with the media? He probably was feeling the pressure, I would in his situation.

The masterplan was taking us back into the Premier League (from League 1 no less), and keeping us up! I don't imagine you would rather be in mid-table in the Championship with a manager you find likeable which is where we'd be without NP's time here.

I've got nothing but admiration for What Nige did for us but feck me some of the excuses some make for his obvious faults are ridiculous.

If his faults are calling out idiots in the fanbase and thundercunts in the press then who really gives a toss?

Strange it was maybe. But I surely won't let three minor "incidents" that were blown out of proportion by the media spoil the overall Pearson experience.

I've read some bizarre stuff on this forum over the years. Some stuff that has made me wonder where people get their ideas from.

This is one of the most perplexing. The thought that Pearson somehow masterminded the great escape by purposely wrestling with opposition players (an act that still completely baffles me), swearing at portions of our crowd and by creating a shite storm in the media. All of which I think led to his being sacked. That he did this somehow on purpose because he cannily assumed that this would take the pressure off the players.

I say one more time.....The great escape started at West Brom with Vardy's last gasp winner, coupled with getting a solid centre back in Huth and playing a formation that finally enabled Cambiasso and others to start playing. That was what underpinned the great escape. Not some plot hatched by Pearson to basically annoy just about everyone in football (apart from some plonkers who applauded his behaviour with glee).

Incredulous.....

Think you are reading too much into it. Making it too complicated.

He deflected attention on to himself and off of the players during his interviews is how i see it.

Watching his interviews on youtube is weird, if he's the oppos manager he's an idiot, whereas if he's your manager its a case of loving him. A bit like Warnock, might be a t*** but he's our t*** sort of thing.

Anyways hope you guys beat the gooners and romp clear in the prem, football needs this imo.

Were Derby playing good football under Clement?

Why exactly was Clement sacked?

Id have to agree.

He was a fantastic manager overall, but he managed to stumble upon a formation in the nick of time that saved us last season.

We were garbage for 2/3rds of the season and it was only when the situation was borderline irreversible that we saved ourselves.

But had we gone down, who knows where we would be now?

All hypothetical of course

The only one where I think I'd argue he did it to deflect from focus on his team was the ostrich outburst (which was incredibly bizarre to say the least). The rest, I'm not feeling.

Watching that today its plainly obvious what we need, a good clear out and a rebuild... and Pearson is needed big time.. looking at the mess we've got ourselves into though I wouldn't blame him if he ran a 1000mph in the other direction, our owner as well and truly ballsed it up.

Shame really because 18 months ago we were a well run club that played good football, fast-forward 18 months and we have a set of individuals that don't give a **** about Derby, FFP is calling so we don't have the wiggle room for Pearson until the summer, by then a better offer would have come along, and tbh he'd be better off.

Clearout and rebuild???

What about the money youve spent on Butterfield, Johnson, Ince, Blackman???

Youre going to have absolutely nothing to rebuild with.

Which was all the more stupid you sacked Clement who was working with his own players and you were still doing alright, youd just had a bad run.

Youve well and truly pressed the panic button now and all of a sudden you need to clear your whole squad out. Were you saying that when Clement had you in the top 2 earlier this season?

Youve ****ed yourself over as a club. You think Pearson's gonna wave a magic wand?

Youre mental.

It needs a second post because you are actually mental.

The only thing i cant work out is who is more mental, you or the chairman.

Youre sat 6th in the league, you have a talented squad who have had a bad run. Championship teams have bad runs.

Youre not in a "mess". Being in administration with players playing for free, being in LEAGUE 1, THAT is a mess.

You could still go up this season, its all up for grabs.

When will you have a better chance of going up? Now with your talented players over half way through a season in the top 6? or next season when youre having your "clearout"?

Dont think Pearson doesnt have bad runs? check us out in the season Watford beat us in the playoffs. Check us out when we were bottom of the premier league for months.

The stupidity of all of you as a club. Your owner and especially you as fans if you all share this opinion.

I'd keep Ince, Shackell and Butterfield personally. Weimann, Bent, Baird, Camara and Blackman are looking like a bunch of signings made simply because we had cash on the hip, there's a lot of really bad buys and they need clearing out, probably 5 or 6 players we simply shouldn't have signed in hindsight, it was fun when we were making them but we're coming to our senses you can't buy your way out of this league.. if we get rid of some of the more idiotic buys we still have a good core of players, Hughes, Bryson, Hendrick, Thorne, Ince, Shackell, Butterfield, Christie, Carson, Ollson and Buxton are all sound players, Martin has just lost his form but he's proved he's good enough, that leaves Johnson who I think was overpriced but could still yet be a good player for us, he's proved it earlier in the season.

like I say we have to move Weimann, Bent, Baird, Camara and Blackman on, the last 2 have got to be the most stupidest buys any club has ever made, we bought them because we could and that's just a stupid way of going about it. our squad is too big, trim it down, get the deadwood out and there's a still a good core of players left.

And no I don't think Pearson can wave a magic wand, if he did come he's going to need time, at least 18 months possibly even 2 seasons to rid us of the crap that's been brought in.. a depressing day all round, 5 years of Cloughs hard work looks like its gone up in smoke these past few months, Clement is well out of it, there's no way an inexperienced head coach can sort this mess out.

If I'm going to be insulted then I'm best leaving, just thought I'd come on and ask about Pearson and have a bit of a discussion, but its looking like the insults have started so I'll leave it at that and move on.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Alright, saying "mental" was over the top and i apologise for that.

But i dont understand the thought processes you are having.

It seems like youve panicked, but its not even a panic, its just a chronic decision .

Why do you say "cloughs hard work"? are you not crediting McLaren for anything? not any players he left you?

Just all round bizarre opinions.

Posted

Youve said you have a good core of players, youve said some of your signings have been good, and youre in the top 6 having had your worst run youll have this season.

There was no mess until you made one for yourselves.
