Will Claudio and his team be scouting for defenders for the January Window?

We concede, a lot. But lucky for us when we turn on we can destroy teams with our attacking capabilities.

We are on a run but I still feel we need to bring in a top quality Defender or two. I would like someone with experience of the English game Of possible.

What are your opinions on our back line and does it need improved?

I can't help but feel a lot of our threat in scoring comes from our sometimes risky play. If you take out De Laet and Schlupp and replace them with steady full backs I'm pretty certain we will lose something.

Schlupp is class... RDL needs to GO!

Well we're equipped for Pearson's 3 at the back (which saw us keep 5 cleansheets in the final 9 matches), and seeing as Ranieri clearly doesn't rate that for whatever reason I'd imagine we definitely will be after replacements

Well surely if we 'need' to replace our center halves....

So do Sunderland, west ham, spurs, bournemouth, villa and stoke, right? Afterall, they all conceded the same/more as us when we played.

Every team in world football can improve....personally I believe we need to improve our mentality rather than our actual personnel first.

For all his eccentricities Schlupp has been important, perhaps even vital, to our success.

His pace and penetration occupies all defences and creates time and space for others.

Yes, he makes mistakes, but he also has the pace not just to rectify a lot of them but to cause trouble and limit the opposition's attacking numbers.

He's simply too great a threat to be left alone so wing-backs or attacking midfielders have to be careful what space they leave behind them because there's no catching him when he gets clear and very few full-backs who can deal with him consistently on their own.

Yes, we need faster, more mobile central defenders - or at least one - but we also need to play our best midfield - people with the energy and determination to cover consistently when necessary but with the ability to support us going forward as well. At the moment we're handicapping ourselves and the defence is suffering as a result.

Given our strength in the CM position, would it be crazy to suggest whacking Kante in there if we're in a bit of jam? I know he's been brilliant in midfield but we did well with King and Drinky in there. Admittedly, it would be a bit of a waste and we should only consider it if De Laet gets injured or his form gets worse (anything to not play Simpson) but he has all the attributes of a good, attacking FB/WB. He's quick, excellent in the tackle, he works hard, he has loads of stamina, he has a decent touch, he can recycle possession well when needed and he's tenacious. I can't imagine many wingers would get the better of him and even if they do, they will be rushed into releasing the balll as Kante will be busting a gut to win it back.

We could do with at least 2 more quality defenders , but I'm not sure where you would find them. 20 million for lovrens and 30 million for shaw shows what you have to pay for fairly average defenders

Sam Byram - get it done!

CB are a priority but probably not until the end of the season.

Would love us to get Byram and with our good start he should be seen as a realistic target

Hopefully but we need one experienced defender so we can put them in the squad straigh away, rather than put a young player in the squad when he does not have much experience.

We're going to concede playing 442. Nobody plays it any more for that very reason, I for one like the fact that we're putting faith in our attacking prowess because it's by far the strongest element of our team.

Was going to start a new thread called "soft underbelly" cus that's what my mate calls it but this one seems to cover the same thing.

We are extremely good in some areas but perhaps not in defence .... There's only so long we can keep scoring more than we let in.

Imagine what we could do if we stop the leak .... At least a mid table team if not better.

We are a bit pedestrian in the centre of our defence and don't seem to have anyone to make a difference. Apart from Huth no other new signings are making a difference. Personally I think we should have stayed local and picked up someone from the championship or a team that went down ... Chester or Curtis Davies looked good at Hull .... And there are others ...

If we got just one real quality central defender (who is a wall at the back, quick, can play the ball and go up and score at set pieces) it would IMO make a massive difference.

Agree with the sentiment but in reality those type of centre backs are a rarity and the ones that have all of that cost a bloody fortune

There is still plenty to do and Ranieri has said it is about stability this season. Look how we play, look at the team spirit and we will have a lot more players wanting to wear the blue of city.

I know but wouldn't it be brilliant if we did .... It depends how serious we are.

CR's plan of offering a pizza to the players if they keep a clean sheet doesn't seem to be working ... Apparently he's upped the anti to cheese and wine ... Maybe that will do the trick ..

You telling me you didn't find it exciting last October / November when we couldn't score for shit?

It still makes me feel a little ill that last season's home ties against West Brom, Palace, Sunderland, Hull and Stoke yielded a grand total of zero goals for.

Bring out the big guns........ NANDOS!

Everyone knows footballers love a 'cheeky nandos' lol

It's hard to think of a centre back with all those attributes you listed that we could realistically sign. I'm sure someone on here will come up with some names.

Ron Vlaar would suit me on a free

This, in spades.

That said, Schlupp's defending could go up a notch if he worked a bit more on his concentration at the back - could have prevented one of yesterday's goals had he kept alert. Only problem is that our capability of playing 3 at the back is currently dependent on 3 aged CBs, if we assume Was is still in the picture, unless Fuchs or Benny can step up. In the light of Moore's current demise, it would be good to have a younger CB in the squad who looks as if he will progress into the team.

Benny the Loon has squad player written all over him ... Who knows about Fuchs ...
