Blaby has been named the sixth happiest place in the UK.

It is the only place in the Midlands to feature in the list of the 10 happiest places.

The list was drawn up by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) using its annual wellbeing survey for April 2014 to March 2015.

Blaby resident Paul Talbot, 41, said: "I don't know how they get these figures but, personally, I enjoy living in Blaby. I am a very happy person myself.

  •

"It is a really nice place. We have everything we could possibly want. All your amenities are here."

One of Paul's favourite things about Blaby is the walks, he said. He enjoys walking the dog along the canals and in the parks.

"Certainly, taking the dog out and not walking on the same playing fields is good," he said.

"One walk leads to another. It is really nice.

"There are really nice walks, friendly shops and people do anything to help each other."

Robert Benford, 77, who has lived in Blaby for more than 45 years, was not surprised it made the list.

Robert, a, parish councillor, said the Blaby village was close-knit. "When you go in to the village you seem to know a lot of people," he said.

Among the things that brighten life in Blaby are friendly people and a variety of things to do, reckoned Robert.

Fellow parish councillor Lorna Gutteridge, who has lived in Blaby her whole life, said: "People do seem happy.

"We have a lot of dog-walkers who go round with smiles on their faces, and talk to each other.

"It is because it is a rural area, which people enjoy."

She agreed there was lots to do, with 450 clubs and organisations in the district.

The data analysed in the report was collected from the Annual Population Survey. The sample size used was about 165,000 adults aged 16 and over living in the UK.

The ONS has assessed life satisfaction, feeling worthwhile, happiness and anxiety levels across the country since 2011/12.

Who says they were residents. We're quite civilised in this part of the world........well, most of the time.

The people of Blaby were never happier than when they accused that woman of being Maxine Carr for no reason

I thought I heard somewhere she had to move due to threats?

I think you'll find most of the accusers where from countesthorpe.

To be fair Blaby is alright, a few pubs, a nice Indian restaurant, a good chip shop, a greggs and a Waitrose who seem to only hire really good looking 20 year old girls.

So jealous were they of their happiness they tried to spoil it for new arrivals by accusing them of being Maxine Carr.

Are the people of Countesthorpe prone to this kind of thing?

I'm not sure what their thinking was

I live in East Cambs in the top 10 happiest

4 miles away is Fenland bottom 10

Seems odd. unless they are jealous to death at us being happy.

Cambridgeshire's an odd place. Ely and Cambridge are obviously lovely cities full of normal people but venture outside... there be monsters....

Surprised Wolverhampton avoided last place and that Coventry are not in the bottom ten. The only decent place in wolverhampton is Robin 2, the music venue and the road out.

They've reported it wrong. This refers to Blaby District, not just Blaby. Perils of ONS not labelling the table properly.

So you can include your Countesthorpe, Braunstone Town, Sharnford etc etc.
