Elsie Ephsey Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 At a time when we're flying high and would appear to have struck lucky with such fantastic owners, spare a thought for our near neighbours: http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/news/local/cobblers-round-up-all-the-latest-news-from-sixfields-1-7020605 I know that we all have our personal rivalries, and revel in it when the likes of Forest, Derby, Cov, etc, are struggling. However, if there's no club then there's no rivalry to be had, and that's becoming a very real possibility where the Cobblers are concerned. A chairman who struggles with communication, a £10.25m loan that nobody seems to quite know the whereabouts of, and a half-completed stand - they might be doing OK on the pitch, but it's what's happening away from the playing field that really matters at the moment. The club are entering a critical fortnight, and their Supporters Trust are aiming to raise £100,000 as quickly as possible in an effort to have a greater voice and sadly, as seems highly likely, help to form a "phoenix" club if the worst case scenario becomes a reality. Any help from fellow fans greatly appreciated: https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/ntfctrust Thanks.
Nick Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 Chairman borrows lots of money. Creates new companies with new business partners. Goes AWOL. Hard to see what's happened here.
Rocket-Ron Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 I have very fond memories of going to watch Northampton town with a friend of mine. The old ground that used to adjoin the cricket ground, those bloody open air toilets on a cold Tuesday night, you could see the steam rising Chesterfield away when they should have been relegated out of the league had it not been for the promoted teams ground not up to scratch. The opening game at sixfields. Always still keep a look out for their scores. Donation sent.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 donated, never want to see any club go out of business. hoping the cobblers make it OK
Renart Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 Done. I was brought up watching Kettering Town as well as Leicester and I know how this feels.
Guest Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 Having supported halifax town I remember the feeling. That kind of uncertainty can take all the joy out of football. But even if a club goes bust, you can always draw a line under it and start again. Difficult but there's always a tomorrow of some sort ....albeit 3 leagues lower. Northampton's story sounds remarkably similar to that of Halifax's, from the missing money to the unfinished stand ... and also Chris Wilder being manager of both. I'd be checking him for swiss accounts
Leicesterpool Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 I had to witness Boro going bust back in 2008, horrible times and know how it feels however positive thing is they rebuilt and managed to get back to where they were just two years later! On Northampton I hope they can turn this mess round, be sad to see another big club falling.
Voll Blau Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 Be sad to see them go out of business, hope they pull through.
Elsie Ephsey Posted 5 November 2015 Author Posted 5 November 2015 Evening all, many thanks for the pledges of support so far. It's not looking great, Monday 16th looks like being D-Day for the club. Let's hope they somehow pull through, or a benefactor comes to the rescue at the last minute.
GaelicFox Posted 5 November 2015 Posted 5 November 2015 I actually saw man City play them in third tier of english football not that long ago maybe 12 or so years ago ?? Decent fans and they looked after Coventry during that bullshit We should remember it was nearly us at one stage I hope they pull through

Fox92 Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 Chairman borrows lots of money. Creates new companies with new business partners. Goes AWOL. Hard to see what's happened here. Who has created/edited his wiki page!? David Cardoza is the corrupt chairman and director of Northampton Town Football Club and an international fugitive. He has instigated ambitious plans to builda 100 ft gold statue of himself expand Sixfields Stadium,[1] which will enable the capacity to dhalf.
Leicesterpool Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 Weren't Nuneaton just demoted 2 leagues, rather than having to start from scratch? We were demoted two league yeah but we went into liquidation and we had to reform and being forced to rename to Nuneaton Town.
Izzy Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 Let's hope they somehow pull through, or a benefactor comes to the rescue at the last minute. I played golf today with a mate who's a Cobblers season ticket holder. He seems to think the ex Oxford Chairman (can't remember his name) will bail them out. Hope so cos it would be a disaster if they go to the dogs. P.S. he was raving about Adam Smith our ex keeper. Says he's been brilliant for them...
fuchsntf Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 If I am not wrong, they went from the old 4th division in 4 seasons to the old 1st division, that run I remember, but then within 5 seasons straight back down to the 4th.That was in the 60s through to 1970. known for conceding 6 George Best goals, in a 8-2 loss I believe. That said teams like the Cobblers, Posh, Mansfield were the stalwarts of the Idea of having 4 Divisions. In that a traditional small club, and musters memories of English football being played, on old boggey pitches on cold rainy weekday nights...even Leicester city fans were toffs n snobs to theses teams. Their fans and complete staff...salt of the earth, or to bring it upto date and todays relevance "tomatoes on the Pizza"
Wymsey Posted 6 November 2015 Posted 6 November 2015 Should be fan-owned. Portsmouth nearly went, but rightly turned to fans for help and they seem quite stable now with good attendances for that league.

Arriba Los Zorros Posted 12 November 2015 Posted 12 November 2015 Come on Northampton, hoping they manage to make it through OK
ramboacdc Posted 12 November 2015 Posted 12 November 2015 i always feel bad for these crowd funding projects. the fans have paid for season tickets/merch/memberships/tickets/shirts etc and then are expected to dig into their pockets again because the guy in charge of running the books cant do his job! the fans have done nothing wrong.
Staffs Fox Posted 12 November 2015 Posted 12 November 2015 What is it with Northamptonshire football?? Kettering, Rushden and Diamonds and now potentially Northampton as well! Hope they make a recovery
